  31. TITLE: The Watcher

  34. SUMMARY: This takes place four years later while the Buffy gang is attending
  35. Montague University near Sunnydale. AngelÆs soul has been permanently
  36. restored, and he is 100% human. Jenny Calendar is still alive. Buffy will be
  37. getting a new Watcher. 
  38. DISTRIBUTION: Ask me first.
  39. DISCLAIMER: I own none of the characters from or the movie or show Buffy the
  40. Vampire Slayer. They were created by Joss Wheden and are owned by 20th Century

  46.     As soon as Giles got to the house and listened to the message, he left.
  47. //Damnit! Why did it have to be Cordelia?! I would have rather her walked than
  48. be in a car with her. Calm down, Giles. Just drive.// And that he did.

  50.     "WhatÆs wrong, Buff?" Angel asked as he walked onto the balcony. "YouÆve been
  51. standing outside in the rain for the past half hour. Come inside."
  52.     "Nothing." She came back inside, her wet clothing sticking to her. "ItÆs just
  53. that I feel like IÆm going to lose Willow. WeÆre best friends, and the Slayer-
  54. Watcher realationship isnÆt like that. If Willow becomes my Watcher, I have a
  55. feeling thatÆll change out whole relationship, and that isnÆt what I want."
  56.     "Of course everythingÆll be different. Big deal. So what. YouÆll worry about
  57. that when it comes."
  58.     "But Angel, what if-"
  59.     He grabbed her and passionately kissed her. She loosened up in his grip and
  60. started to relax. "What were you going to say?"
  61.     "Nothing. Nothing at allà" She pulled him down onto the bed and kissed him
  62. again. "I love you." She whispered into his ear.
  63.     ThatÆs when the phone started to ring. Brrrng. Brrrng."Let Xander get it."

  65.     "Hello?" Xander asked.
  66.     "Xander? ItÆs Giles."
  67.     "WhatÆs up, G-man?"
  68.     "I, IÆm on my way to Sunnydale General Hospital. Meet me over there right
  69. away."
  70.     "WhatÆs wrong? Are you okay?"
  71.     "Yes, yes. Jenny is having her baby. IÆve got to go." He hung up the phone.
  72.     Xander ran upstairs to Willow and CordeliaÆs room, but nobody was there. He
  73. burst into BuffyÆs room and screamed, "Mrs. CalendarÆs having the baby!" 
  74.     "Xander!" Buffy screamed as she pulled up the bed covers. "What the hell are
  75. you doing?"
  76.     "He covered his eyes with his hand. "Oh, God, IÆm so sorry. IÆll go tell
  77. Willow." He ran out of the room and slammed the door.
  78. *****
  79.     "Willow, youÆve been reading long enough," Oz said walking up behind the
  80. couch Willow was sitting on. "You should go to sleep. ItÆs almost midnight."
  81.     "Oz, I am nowhere near ready to be Watcher. Ms. Calendar is going to have her
  82. baby anyday now. I need to prepare."
  83.     "Please." He     came up behind her and put his arms around her and kissed her.
  84. "Just take a little break."
  85.     "I guess the world can wait five minutes." She kissed him back and he got on
  86. the couch too. 
  87.     "God, get a room!" Xander cried as he munched his apple. 
  88.     "Xander, do you really need to be in here right now?" Willow asked in an
  89. agitated voice.
  90.     He started pouting. "Fine, then I wonÆt tell you that Ms. Calendar is in
  91. labor at Sunnydale General."
  92.     Willow stood up and accidently knocked Oz off the couch. "No, no, no. This,
  93. this cannot be happening. I, I, IÆm to young to be a Watcher. IÆm not ready."
  94.     "Will, calm down," Oz mumbled as he staggered back up. "IÆll drive you to the
  95. hospital. YouÆll talk to Giles. EverythingÆll be cool, okay?" He brushed her
  96. hair with his hand.
  97.     "Yeah, yeah," Willow mumbled in a daze, "everythingÆll be cool."
  98. *****
  99.     Due to torrential rain and heavy fog, it took them almost an hour to get to
  100. the hospital. In the waiting room, Buffy, Cordelia, and Angel sat. Oz and
  101. Xander sat beside them while Willow just paced up and down.
  102.     "Jeez, Willow, now youÆre making me nervous," Cordelia spoke.  
  103.     "Shut the hell up!" she snapped. "Oh, IÆm sorry."
  104.     With a smile on his face, Giles burst through the doors. "She had the baby.
  105. ItÆs, itÆs a girl."
  106.     "Congratulations, Giles!" Buffy said as she hugged him. "I know youÆre going
  107. to make a great father."
  108.     His eyes met hers. "Thank youàfor everything. You were a terrific Slayer,
  109. Buffy, and IÆll miss you. But IÆve got a life to live."
  110.     "You were a terrific Watcher. IÆll nevr forget you. Now, go, see your baby.
  111. Have a good life."
  112.     "Thank you. All of you, come in and see her."
  113.     In the hospital room, Mrs. Calendar was holding her newborn baby girl when
  114. they entered. There were "awws" and "sheÆs so cute" from everybody. Giles just
  115. proudly stood there, beaming.
  116.     "So, what are you going to name her?" asked Oz.
  117.     Mrs. Calendar said, "I havenÆt really thought about it much-" 
  118.     "Buffy," inturupted Giles. "Buffy."
  119.     Mrs. Calendar added, "No, Buffy Cordelia. Without her, I would have this baby
  120. in my bedroom."
  121.     Buffy spoke, "Buffy Cordelia Giles-Calendar. I like it."
  122.     Into the room entered a nurse. "Okay, visiting time is over. Everyone out."
  123.     "Buffy, I need to talk to you," Giles whispered as he left the room.
  124.     They went to a corner to talk. "Buffy, in all my years as Watcher, you have
  125. given me the most grief and the most joy. IÆll miss not being your Watcher,
  126. but I know youÆll do fine with Willow. SheÆll make a great Watcher. What I
  127. guess IÆm trying to say is that IÆll miss you."
  128.     "IÆll miss you too." Tears started forming in your eyes. "ItÆll be strange
  129. not seeing you every single day, or reluctently learning new battle
  130. techniques. I canÆt believe you wonÆt be here tomarrow night."
  131.     "Goodbye."
  132.     "Bye." The hugged and parted. 
  133.     //Goodbye, Giles. Goodbye, forever.//

  158. SUMMARY:  Okay, well this takes place while Ms. Calendar is still alive,
  159. but Angel is evil, so probably Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.  It's
  160. another "Angel gets his soul back" story which I wrote to convince myself
  161. that Angel could be good again.  It's kind of long and I'm sorry about that
  162. you all.

  170. The Cure (5/14)

  172. Buffy was filling the water guns up with Holy water.
  173.  
  174. "I don't quite understand the purpose of these, Buffy," Giles said.  Buffy
  175. picked up one.
  176.  
  177. "Well, all the slayerettes, even you Giles, carries one around, so if a
  178. vampire attacks you, just shoot some Holy water in their eyes," Buffy
  179. explained.
  180.  
  181. "Just like pepper spray," Willow commented.
  182.  
  183. "Yeah, but this is just a precautionary measure.  I want everyone to stay
  184. somewhere where none of the vamps can get you," Buffy said.
  185.  
  186. "Buffy, we're going to work out of Oz's basement, because Angel can come
  187. into the library whenever he wants," Willow told buffy, as she was putting
  188. some of the weapons into a box.  Xander packing up books with Giles and
  189. Cordelia.  Oz was helping Willow pack the weapons.
  190.  
  191. "Okay, what else needs to be done?" Buffy asked.
  192.  
  193. "Well, that's the last box.  Buffy would you help carry these boxes out to
  194. Oz's van?" Giles asked, gesturing at a stack of five boxes.
  195.  
  196. "Sure," Buffy replied, picking up the stack of boxes.  "Oz, where are you
  197. parked?"
  198.

  201. Jenny was sitting across from the elderwoman of her tribe.  Jenny sipped
  202. her coffee.
  203.  
  204. "So, Janna, you have returned to us."
  205.  
  206. "Yes, grandmother.  I need your help," Jenny returned simply.
  207.  
  208. "It is about Angelus. . .and a girl. . .and others.  Tell me about it.
  209. What do you need?"
  210.  
  211. "It is about Angel.  The girl is Buffy and she is the Slayer.  She loves
  212. him, and with his soul, he loved her.  He helped them, Buffy, her watcher
  213. and her friends.  And me.  He saved my life.  Now, they think it's my fault
  214. he lost his soul.  I need help to restore his soul.  And I want to make it
  215. permanent," Jenny explained, crossing her fingers, hoping they would be
  216. able to help her.
  217.  
  218. "I knew you would come.  I have already begun the search.  I will try to
  219. help you Janna, but I cannot cast the spell.  It must be someone who was
  220. affected by the soul.  And they must be trained in magic."
  221.  
  222. "What does the training involve?  Can I do it?" Jenny asked.
  223.  
  224. "I was hoping you'd ask.  Come with me Janna," the elderwoman got up and
  225. beckoned for Jenny to follow.  Jenny followed silently.
  226.

  228.  
  229. They all sat together in the back of Oz's van.  Buffy was getting nervous.
  230. The sun was dipping down to the horizon.  They probably only had another
  231. half an hour.
  232.  
  233. "Here we are," Oz said, pulling into the driveway.  They all jumped out and
  234. Buffy grabbed the boxes.  Willow grabbed her bag and Xander carried Buffy's
  235. bag. 
  236.  
  237. Oz led them into the house and down to the basement.
  238.  
  239. "Are you certain it's okay for us to be here?" Giles asked.
  240.  
  241. "Yeah, like I said, no sweat," Oz replied.
  242.  
  243. "I'd feel better if we all stayed here tonight.  Is that okay with you Oz?
  244. I just don't want anyone going out between sunset tonight and sunrise
  245. tomorrow," Buffy said.
  246.  
  247. "Sure, no problem.  You guys can stay as long as you want.  My mom's out of
  248. town visiting relatives and my dad works nights," Oz answered.
  249.  
  250. "Let's unpack then."
  251.
