  37. Author's note:  This is your usual generic story.  Angel is still good, 
  38. so basically in my story surprise/innocence didn't happen.  Willow and 
  39. Oz are together, and Xander and Cordy are still hiding their secret 
  40. utility closet rondevu's. This is going to be a long story, and will 
  41. take some time so be patient with me.  I'm not very good at story 
  42. telling, so if this totally sucks and isn't read-worthy, just let me 
  43. know.Oh yeah, and I want feedback, feedback, and more feedback.  I don't 
  44. care if it's good or bad, just tell me what you thought of it.

  48. Buffy slowly trudged home, taking in her surroundings.  She basked in 
  49. the sunÆs warm rays, listened to the birds chirping, and watched the 
  50. small puffy clouds move against the pale blue sky.  She felt like 
  51. collapsing.  Not because of exhaustion, but because she felt so 
  52. hopeless, so alone.  
  53.  
  54. The Slayer walked up the steps, to her front door.  She took out her key 
  55. and opened it.  ôHope?ö  she called out to the thick silence.  ôAre you 
  56. here?  ItÆs me, Buffy.ö  She shut the door behind her, making sure it 
  57. was locked.  
  58.  
  59. Hope came bounding out from the kitchen and threw her arms around Buffy.  
  60. ôIÆm so glad your okay!  Oh my, you look awful!ö  
  61.  
  62. ôGee, that seems to be the universal reaction to my present looks.ö
  63.  
  64. ôIÆm sorry, Buffy.  You just look like youÆve been through hell.ö
  65.  
  66. ôSure, if youÆre into understatements.  So how are you doing?ö  
  67.  
  68. Hope sat down on the stairs.  ôI am okay, I think.  So much has happened 
  69. in the past twenty-four hours.  IÆm still trying to take it all in.ö
  70.  
  71. The Slayer sat down next to her.  ôIt will be weird at first, but trust 
  72. me.  Soon it will become an everyday thing, just like breathing.ö  
  73.  
  74. ôGiles told me about those vampires last night...Spike and Drusilla.  
  75. What happened?ö
  76.  
  77. ôLet me take a shower and I will tell you.ö  Buffy said, walking up the 
  78. stairs.  ôHow about you make some coffee?ö
  79.  
  80. ôSure.  Oh, IÆm making soup, do you want some?ö
  81.  
  82. ôThat would be great.  Thanks.ö  Buffy made her way up the stairs to her 
  83. bedroom.  She shut the door behind her and collapsed on her bed.  ôOh 
  84. God,ö  she cried to herself, ôHow am I going to get through this day?ö  
  85. Buffy forced herself to get up.  ôI have to think clearly.ö  She 
  86. sauntered over to her dresser and looked into the mirror.  It was the 
  87. first good look she has gotten of herself since yesterday.  ôOh man, I 
  88. do look like hell.ö  She peeled off her clothes and wrapped a bath towel 
  89. around her small body, and went to the bathroom.  Shutting and locking 
  90. the door, she removed her towel and got into the shower.  The hot water 
  91. hit her body softly.  It was the first time since yesterday that she 
  92. felt relaxed.  The raw skin on her wrists stung as the water made its 
  93. way over her body, but she ignored the pain.  Buffy washed her hair and 
  94. body with her favorite peach shampoo and soap that she had gotten for 
  95. her 17th birthday.  After twenty minutes, she made herself shut the 
  96. water off, not wanting to come out like a prune. Buffy left the bathroom 
  97. and went back to her room.  She sat down in a chair and examined her 
  98. reflection in a small hand mirror.  ôOh crap,ö  she said, as she noticed 
  99. the dark circles under her eyes and the red blemish on her cheek.   
  100. ôThis is not what I needed right now.ö  She applied a light coat of 
  101. makeup, blow-dried and styled her hair, and put on her favorite pink 
  102. tank top and pair of blue jeans.  After finally feeling good about her 
  103. appearance, she decided to join Hope in the kitchen.

  135. ôFeeling better?ö  Hope asked, when she saw her friend emerge from the 
  136. hallway and sit down on the couch.

  138. ôYeah, a little.ö  Buffy responded.  Hope handed her a cup of coffee and 
  139. bowl of soup.  ôThanks,ö  she said, and took a bite.  ôThis is really 
  140. good.  I didnÆt realize how hungry is was.ö 
  141.  
  142. ôSo, do you mind telling me what happened?ö  Hope asked.  When she saw 
  143. Buffy grimace, she quickly added, ôBut if you donÆtÆ want to, thatÆs 
  144. okay.  I donÆt want, well, I just,ö  she was trying to find the right 
  145. words.  ôIts just that, well, IÆm worried about you.  I know we havenÆt 
  146. known each other for very long, but I feel like IÆve known you all my 
  147. life.ö  
  148.  
  149. Buffy was touched by her honesty.  She felt guilty for being so 
  150. suspicious of Hope.  Even though she still felt an aura coming off of 
  151. Hope, she was extremely comfortable around her new friend.  ôI donÆt 
  152. mind telling you about what happened.ö  The Slayer relived the night 
  153. through her words as she retold the story to Hope.  ôAnd right now he is 
  154. sitting there...just waiting...ö

  185.  
  186. **WARNING:  This part gets really graphic and might be disturbing for 
  187. some people.  Reader discretion is adivsed.**
  188.  
  189. Angel sat in the dark corner of the musty room, hiding from the window.  
  190. The curtain didnÆt completely cover the deadly rays of the sun.  He had 
  191. been sitting there for hours, waiting.  Waiting to live, waiting to die.  
  192. Angel was scared.  The usually fearless vampire was so scared of what 
  193. was going to happen.  Not just to him, but to Buffy.  He would never 
  194. forgive himself if something happened to her.    If Spike and Drusilla 
  195. tried to make him evil again, he would drive a stake through his heart 
  196. before they got the chance.  He just sat there, thinking.  It was all he 
  197. could do.  He thought of the past, of the horrible things he had done.  
  198. He remembered killing Mira.  He thought about how he hadnÆt told his 
  199. friends the whole story.  He hadnÆt lied to them, but he withheld some 
  200. information.  Gruesome information.  Yes, Angelus had killed her family, 
  201. mutilating them.  Gouging out their eyes, bashing their heads in, 
  202. ripping their still beating hears out of their chests.  Sucking every 
  203. bit of blood out of their bodies that he could get.  He remembered 
  204. grabbing her little puppy from the backyard.  He thing was only about 
  205. four months old.  Angelus had nailed the puppies tiny body to the wall 
  206. above her families bodies.  He could still see MiraÆs face when she had 
  207. dashed through her front door so show her mother the gift her watcher 
  208. had given to her.  The sapphire pendant.  The happy look on her face 
  209. twisting into utter horror.  And when the girl had found him in the 
  210. graveyard, he had said ôYour family tasted sooo good!ö  She tried to 
  211. fight him, but couldnÆt.  She didnÆt have the will.  The thing that 
  212. Angel didnÆt tell them was that she didnÆt just give up after a fight, 
  213. he had abused her.  Angelus had pushed her down on the ground, and tore 
  214. her clothes off.  She laid there, frightened, shocked, in fear of him, 
  215. and didnÆt struggle when he did the most horrible thing he could do to a 
  216. girl, he raped her.  He remembered her crying, sobbing, shaking.  When 
  217. she couldnÆt take it anymore, she told him to kill her, and he did.  He 
  218. leaned down on her naked body, turned her head to the side, exposing the 
  219. soft, white flesh on her neck, and slowly sunk his fangs into her 
  220. jugular.  He sucked every ounce of blood that was in her body.  And when 
  221. he had finished, he left her there, walking away without a second 
  222. thought.    
  223.  
  224. Angel shuddered.  He loathed himself.  He hated thinking about the 
  225. things he had done in the past.  All the killing, the hurting, the pain.  
  226. A tear fell down his pale face.  So much guilt filled his body.  He 
  227. choked back the emerging sob.  His body quivered.  He reached up and 
  228. grabbed the cross he wore around his neck.  Despite the burns that it 
  229. caused him, he wore it anyway.  It helped calm him.  Angel looked down 
  230. at his hand and gazed at the claddagh ring, the heart pointing toward 
  231. him, representing his love for Buffy.  Just this calmed him down.  All 
  232. of a sudden he was ripped from his thoughts to the sound of a key in the 
  233. door.  He watched the doorknob slowly turn, and the door creep open.

  287. Xander reached over and grabbed the phone.  Breathlessly, he answered.  
  288. ôHello?ö

  290. ôXander?ö a worried voice said.

  292. ôUh, yeah?ö
  293.  
  294. ôThis is Giles.  Something terrible has happened.ö
  295.  
  296. ôWhat?  Is everything okay?ö  Cordelia shot him a look of disgust.  
  297. <Buffy Buffy Buffy.  Is that all he thinks about?>  
  298.  
  299. ôNo, unfortunately not.  There is a huge crisis on our hands. Everything 
  300. is in a complete disarray.  I made a costly error.  My inaccuracy could 
  301. be the downfall of everything...ö
  302.  
  303. ôWhoa, Whoa, Slow down.  What is going on?ö  Xander asked, greatly 
  304. concerned.  He looked at Cordelia, who sensed his worry.
  305.  
  306. ôI donÆt have time to explain over the phone, just get to the library 
  307. right now.  Call Cordelia and have her come too.ö
  308.  
  309. ôRight...right.  What about Willow?ö
  310.  
  311. ôIÆve already called and informed her.  Now hurry.ö  
  312.  
  313. ôWait--Giles!ö  Xander called, but Giles had already slammed down the 
  314. receiver.  Xander hung up the phone. 
  315.  
  316. ôWhatÆs going on?ö  Cordelia asked, her voice filled with fear and 
  317. concern.
  318.  
  319. ôI donÆt know, but something bad has happened.  Giles, he sounded, so, 
  320. un-Giles like.  He seemed so scared.ö  He gazed up at her face.  
  321.  
  322. ôWill everything be okay?ö  She whispered, not wanting to reveal her 
  323. fear, but he already felt it.  Suddenly her hugged her fiercely, not 
  324. wanting to let go, not wanting to go to the library, or find out the 
  325. horrible news that awaited them.  He wanted to protect her from the 
  326. world, but he couldnÆt.  She grabbed his face and kissed him.  ôWe have 
  327. to leave.  We need to help Giles and Buffy.ö  He nodded, grasped her 
  328. small hand, and the two teenagers left XanderÆs house.

  332. ôI wonder what he is doing right now...ö  Buffy said.  ôI hope he is 
  333. okay...ö
  334.  
  335. ôHe is probably thinking of you.ö  Hope replied.

  337. ôYou think so?ö

  339. ôI know so.  I can see the love you share just by the looks you give 
  340. each other.  Its like an electric current running on high.ö

  342. The Slayer smiled at her new friend.  ôYou know, Hope, I have to be 
  343. honest with you.  When we first met, I didnÆt trust you.ö

  345. She seemed a bit hurt.  ôWhat do you mean?ö
  346.  
  347. ôWell, when IÆm near you, I get this weird feeling.  ItÆs like, you give 
  348. off this sensation, these funky vibes.  Remember when we shook hands?  
  349. When you touched me, you sent these tingles throughout my body.ö  She 
  350. glanced at Hope, you looked confused.  ôDonÆt get me wrong, I do like 
  351. you, but there is something different about you.ö
  352.  
  353. ôWell, I canÆt say that I felt the exact same way, but, when I met you, 
  354. something was different.  It was like, I was supposed to meet you...I 
  355. had a reason for it.  Almost like fate.ö  She looked away.  ôDo you 
  356. think it has anything to do with Mira?ö
  357.  
  358. ôI have no clue.ö  Buffy sat and pondered for a moment.  ôWhere is your 
  359. necklace?ö
  360.  
  361. ôOh, itÆs right here.ö  She pulled it out of her bag.

  363. ôCan I see it?ö

  365. ôSure.ö  She handed the pendant to Buffy. 
  366.  
  367. The Slayer took it from her.  She fingered it, staring into it.  It was 
  368. mesmerizing, like a deep ocean of blue, swimming in her head.  She 
  369. stared hard into it, going deeper and deeper past the surface.  She was 
  370. suddenly lost in its beauty.  Buffy felt like was *in* the stone.  Her 
  371. head started to spin.  She felt dizzy, and dropped the necklace.  Then 
  372. everything when black.

  394. SUMMARY: A Buffy/Angel story that takes place after What's My Line 1 &
  395. 2, with some added Willow/Oz and Xander/Cordelia. Also, Buffy and the
  396. gang find out about the return of the Master- in some form.
  397. CONTENT WARNING: Some kissing,talk of sex, and a sexual
  398. situation(nothing graphic at all)
  399. DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters except for one, whose
  400. name is unknown as of now-but will be included in Part 2 and possibly
  401. all remaining parts of this. All of the other characters belong to
  402. Joss Whedon and the WB. No copywrite infringement is intended.
  403. NOTE: I wrote this after "What's My Line 2", therefor without knowing
  404. that something similar to this *sort of* happens in "Surprise"

  408.  
  409. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL
  410.  
  411.       Willow spotted Buffy hurrying down the hallway ahead of her.
  412. "Buffy! Hey, wait up!" she called as she ran to catch up with her.
  413.  
  414.  Buffy waited for her friend. "Hey Will. What's up?" 
  415.  
  416. Willow frowned. 
  417.  
  418. "Will- what's wrong? What aren't you telling me?," Buffy asked
  419. suspiciously. 
  420.  
  421. "Well I saw something that I really didn't want to and didn't need to
  422. see. I saw- oh boy, you are never gonna believe this-" 
  423.  
  424. "Well I don't really need to believe it- I just need to know. What is
  425. it, Will?" Buffy asked impatiently. 
  426.  
  427. Willow sighed. "Ok, well I was in the library helping Giles with
  428. something before and Xander was there and so was Cordelia- and Giles
  429. asked Xander to go find a book on some- thing- and Cordelia to help
  430. him-so they went. And I was left to do research on the computer, of
  431. course, but I finished before Xander and Cordelia found the book so I
  432. went in the back to help them and-" Willow paused. 
  433.  
  434. "And?" Buffy asked anxiously. 
  435.  
  436. Willow frowned. "I saw Xander and Cordelia making out in front of the
  437. Encyclopedias." 
  438.  
  439. "Wow, you really took note of where they were standing-But maybe it
  440. wasn;t what you thought it was," Buffy said trying to give Willow some
  441. hope. 
  442.  
  443. Willow shook her head. "No, no- I know what I saw. And I saw Xander
  444. and Cordelia totally lip locked." 
  445.  
  446. "Maybe one of them passed out and needed mouth to mouth," Buffy
  447. suggested jokingly. 
  448.  
  449. "Buffy this is not funny- I mean- it's Xander and Cordelia here-
  450. Xander hates Cordelia-Cordelia hates Xander- That's like, that's like
  451. Tom the cat kissing Jerry the mouse...uh, well, you know what I mean" 
  452.  
  453. "True, but haven't you ever heard of the saying that opposites
  454. attract? I mean as ick-worthy as it is, maybe Xander and Cordelia are
  455. an example of that." 
  456.  
  457. "Well I don't like *that* example. And the worst part is, I'm his best
  458. friend- you are too- and he didn't even tell us," Willow said with
  459. anger. 
  460.  
  461. "Maybe he was afraid of our reaction. I mean it is Cordelia-she was
  462. supposed to be his- and our - sworn enemy- and now he's kissing her,"
  463. Buffy suggested. 
  464.  
  465. "Maybe- but I'm still mad at him. I don't understand what he sees in
  466. her- he never saw anything in her before except popular snotiness- I
  467. thought she would be the last person that he'd ever date. But now this
  468. happened, and now it's like-" Willow stopped with a frown.
  469.  
  470.  "It's like what?" Buffy asked trying to be understanding. 
  471.  
  472. "It's like I'm the last person he'd ever date," Willow said with tears
  473. forming in her eyes. 
  474.  
  475. She continued. "Like Cordelia's good enough for him- and I-his best
  476. friend-am not." The tears began falling down her face. 
  477.  
  478. "Hey, it's not you Willow-Xander's probably just going through those
  479. hormonal changes that men tend to go through. I'm sure he never meant
  480. it to be like that," Buffy said as she hugged her friend. 
  481.  
  482. Willow pulled away to look at Buffy, wiping her tears. "Really?" 
  483.  
  484. "*Really*"Buffy repeated.
  485.  
  486.  "Well, I'm still mad at him. I don't know if I'm even gonna talk to
  487. him. I'll let him tell me- or us, that is." 
  488.  
  489. "We'll see about that. Somehow, I think you will." 
  490. The two started walking again. 
  491.  
  492. "So, who's this Oz guy that was so heroic as to risk himself getting
  493. shot in the arm so that you wouldn't?" Buffy asked changing the
  494. subject. 
  495.  
  496. "Oz? Oz is no one- he's just this guy- that I know." 
  497.  
  498. "A guy that you know. Very informative Will," 
  499.  
  500. "Ok, well, we were both chosen for this computer thing at the Career
  501. Fair, so we've been talking," Willow told her.
  502.  
  503. "By the way, how did that whole Slayer goodbye thing go between you
  504. and Kendra?," Willow asked changing the subject.
  505.  
  506. "Was there any hugging or crying going on?" she continued. 
  507.  
  508. Buffy shook her head at her friend with a grin.
  509.  "You were quick to change the subject. But no, no hugging. Just a
  510. goodbye. Kendra has that "No Huggy Huggy, Touchy Touchy," policy."
  511.  
  512.  "Oh, right. So- I guess that means there was no crying," Willow
  513. answered for Buffy. 
  514.  
  515. "Definitely a negative. But even though I was counting the days until

  519. Willow smiled. "Well, good. So have you and Angel been playing
  520. helpless patient and nurse lately?" Willow asked anxious to hear the
  521. answer. 
  522.  
  523. "Actually, me and Angel haven't even talked or seen each other since
  524. the night at the church. Kendra was kind enough to volunteer to take
  525. him home safely that night so that I could get home to sleep." 
  526.  
  527. Willow couldn't believe it. "Wow, you mean you're not even worried
  528. that he could not be ok?" 
  529.  
  530. "I thought about it of course. But I thought it would be better if he
  531. could rest and if I was was with him, there definitely would be no
  532. resting going on," Buffy explained. 
  533.  
  534. Willow nodded in agreement. "Oh, I see your point. I bet you miss his
  535. kisses though." 
  536.  
  537. "You could say that. I've definitely been going through some *major*
  538. withdrawal," Buffy agreed. 
  539.  
  540. Xander came up behind the two of them just in time to hear Buffy's
  541. last sentence.
  542. "Withdrawal! Buffy, you're not taking drugs now are you? 'Cause that's
  543. what that DARE Program is all bout- Saying *no* to drugs." 
  544.  
  545. Buffy grinned.
  546.  
  547.  "No Xander, Buffy was talking about withdrawal from Angel's kisses-
  548. which is probably what you're going through now without Cordelia's
  549. kisses!" Willow shot at him with anger. 
  550.  
  551. Xander's eyes widened in shock. He looked at Buffy. 
  552.  
  553. Buffy shrugged. "What can I say, Xand- secrets secrets are no
  554. fun-especially when you keep them from your best friends." 
  555.  
  556. Xander shook his head in disbelief. "I don't kn-I don't know what
  557. you're talking about," he said trying to cover everything up. 
  558.  
  559. Buffy looked at Willow. "Willow?" she asked giving her the cue to
  560. explain.
  561.  
  562.  "I-I saw you two in the library-when you were looking for that book-I
  563. went to help you-and I saw you two-kissing," she told Xander. 
  564.  
  565. "Oh, boy... Gosh...I'm sorry, Will. We didn't mean for you-or anyone
  566. to see that. We- Look, I have no idea what is going on between me and
  567. Cordelia. I mean we get into these fights and then we kiss-and it's
  568. completely-completely weird. I mean I don't understand it and I know
  569. you two don't either. Right now I'm just trying to sort everything
  570. out. And that's why I didn't tell you guys. I mean it's me and-
  571. Cordelia- we're not supposed to be together. I mean that's like Tom
  572. and Jerry
  573. kissing each other-Well,you know-you know what I'm saying."
  574.  
  575.  Willow smiled. "I said the same thing," she told him. 
  576.  
  577. "Xander like I told Willow before, you're probably going through
  578. hormonal changes that men tend to go through," Buffy explained. 
  579.  
  580. Xander grinned. "Maybe. I just hope you two will forgive me for not
  581. telling," he pleaded. 
  582.  
  583. Buffy grinned. "You're forgiven-by me at least."
  584.  
  585.  "Willow?" Xander asked. 
  586.  
  587. "I forgive you-but only this once Xander-you not tell us something
  588. again and I'll-I'll..." Willow paused. 
  589.  
  590. Xander smiled. "Thanks you guys. I promise- it'll *never* happen
  591. again." 
  592.  
  593. "So-" Willow said changing the subject once again,"Where were we?" 
  594.  
  595. "Well I know that I was about to tell Buffy that withdrawal from
  596. Angel's kisses is even worse then from drugs and that she could say no
  597. to that too.. but then.."Xander started. 
  598.  
  599. Willow finished for him. "We kinda got into a different conversation.
  600. But about what you were gonna say," Willow said with a smile,"I don't
  601. think she'd wanna say no to that." 
  602.  
  603. Xander smiled at her then turned to Buffy. 
  604.  
  605. "How is our vampish fiend anyway? Not that I really care but he just
  606. looked like he was in major pain the other night- definitely a good
  607. thing."
  608.  
  609.  "Actually," she explained again," I haven't seen him since that
  610. night. But, I'm sure he's fine." 
  611.  
  612. "Darn!" Xander said as he stomped his foot.
  613.  
  614.  Willow and Buffy gave him "the look." 
  615.  
  616. "Sorry, that just came out unplanned-like a reflex," Xander explained.
  617.  
  618.  "Well you better try to control that reflex or my reflex will be to
  619. tape your mouth shut," Buffy warned him jokingly. 
  620.  
  621. "Whoa-Buff, I knew you were a violent one- with evil creatures but I
  622. didn't think you'd be that way with friends. I mean I 'll try but a
  623. reflex is a reflex- pretty much uncontrollable. Oh, by the way, Buff,
  624. the G-man was looking for you- I was supposed to tell you. Seemed
  625. pretty urgent." 
  626.  
  627. "Gee, thanks for telling me now that class starts in like a minute." 
  628.  
  629. Xander spotted Giles approaching them. "Well, it must be pretty
  630. important 'cause here he comes now," he informed Buffy and motioned to
  631. him. 
  632.  
  633. "Buffy!" Giles called as he caught site of her. 
  634.  
  635. Buffy, Xander, and Willow walked over to him. 
  636.  
  637. "Giles, hey. What's up?" Buffy asked him.
  638.  
  639.  "Buffy I need to see you in the library- in five minutes." 
  640.  
  641. Buffy sighed. "Giles, can this wait? 'Cause I have history now and you
  642. know how much I'm faltering in that class." 
  643.  
  644. Giles shook his head. "Buffy, this is extremely urgent. It'll only
  645. take a few minutes," he told her. 
  646.  
  647. "Ok. Ill be right there," she obeyed.
  648.  
  649.  She turned to her two friends. "I'll see you guys at lunch." 
  650.  
  651. Xander nodded. "Ok, best of luck Buff! You may need it with whatever
  652. this urgent thing is."
  653.  
  654.  "See ya," Willow told her. 
  655.  
  656. SCHOOL LIBRARY
  657.  
  658.      Giles was relieved when he saw Buffy come through the library
  659. doors. "Oh, good. You're here." 
  660.  
  661. "What you didn't trust that I'd come?" Buffy asked him slightly
  662. annoyed. 
  663.  
  664. Giles shook his head. "Well, no. No it's just-" he began. 
  665.  
  666. Buffy interrupted shaking her head. "Ok, Giles, What's up? What is
  667. this extremely urgent thing that you *need* to tell me about?" she
  668. asked impatiently. 
  669.  
  670. Giles sighed. "Sit down," he told her. 
  671.  
  672. "Gosh this must be bad. When someone asks you to sit down before they
  673. tell you something, you know it can *never* be a good thing," she said
  674. as she sat. 
  675.  
  676. "So, what is this terrible thing?" she asked. 
  677.  
  678. "Well, it's two things actually," he told her. 
  679.  
  680. "Oh goody. So it's the more problems the merrier kind of deal. So, go
  681. head, share." 
  682.  
  683. Giles sighed. "Well, I went back to what remains of the church that
  684. Druscilla's healing ritual was performed in a few nights ago.." he
  685. began.
  686.  
  687.  "And?" Buffy asked impatiently. 
  688.  
  689. "And while I was looking through the remains of it, I found this," he
  690. continued as he pulled a piece of red cloth out of his pocket and
  691. handed it to Buffy. 
  692.  
  693. "Hmm..a piece of red cloth, probably from a shirt or something," she
  694. said as she examined it in her hands, "Giles what does this have to do
  695. with- anything?" she asked. 
  696.  
  697. "Well, it's not just a piece of cloth off of just anyone's shirt.." he
  698. began. 
  699.  
  700. "Oooo-could it be-I mean maybe it's a piece of one of Gavin Rossdale's
  701. shirts. Can I keep it then- for a souvenir?" Buffy said jokingly. 
  702.  
  703. "Gavin Rossdale- I don't believe I've heard of a Gavin Rossdale.
  704. Who-Who is he?" Giles asked her. 
  705.  
  706. "No one- never mind." 
  707.  
  708. Buffy stared down at the torn piece of clothing in her hands. 
  709.  
  710. "Wait a sec," she said realizing something,"Spike was wearing a shirt
  711. that looked something like this the night that we were in the church
  712. and I...killed.." She paused and her eyes widened. 
  713.  
  714. "When a vampire is killed every part of it turns to dust, except
  715. anything that it may be holding, such as a weapon, but everything else
  716. becomes dust, including all of its clothing," he began explaining. 
  717.  
  718. "Him," Buffy said finishing her sentence from before, "Oh my gosh." 
  719.  
  720. "But when I looked underneath all of the debris, I found not only a
  721. piece of his clothing but not a sign of vampire dust in the area in
  722. which they were supposed to be killed. It still would have been
  723. visible even days later, but since there was none, it would mean
  724. that.." Giles continued explaining but was interrupted by Buffy who
  725. finished his sentence for him. 
  726.  
  727. "Spike and Druscilla are alive," she finished.
  728.  
  729.  Giles nodded. "I'm afraid so. Now, have you spoken to Angel at all
  730. since that night?" 
  731.  
  732. Buffy shook her head. "I haven't yet. I thought I should leave him to
  733. recuperate," she started. 
  734.  
  735. Giles interrupted. "Well I think it would be a good idea to go see hi,
  736. tonight. To- make sure that he's al right. With Druscilla still alive
  737. and uncured, he could be in great danger of her and Spike," he warned
  738. her. 
  739.  
  740. Buffy became a little nervous at what he said. "Great danger? Are we
  741. talking death here?" she asked him. 
  742.  
  743. "Buffy he was nearly killed by Spike's last attempt to cure her, and
  744. if that hasn't worked, well- there's no telling what they'll do next." 
  745.  
  746. Buffy agreed. "Ok, so it's Destination Angel's then." 
  747.  
  748. "Wait, Buffy. As I said before, that us only one of the problems." 
  749.  
  750. "Uh, Giles- I wasn't going anywhere. Remember, school? Well, it's
  751. still in session in case you didn't know. And I don't need Principle
  752. Snyder to find out that I ditched the rest of the day," Buffy reminded
  753. him. 
  754.  
  755. Giles agreed. "Oh, yes. That's right. Well anyway, I was researching
  756. that Watcher Diaries.." 
  757.  
  758. Buffy rolled her eyes and interrupted him. "Really Giles? Cause I
  759. thought you always were researching in Reader's Digest," she joked.
  760.  
  761.  Giles gave her a stern look.
  762.  
  763.  "Continue," she told him.
  764.  
  765.  "Well as I was researching, I found out that six months after the
  766. Master dies, on the six day, and the six hour, his or her spirit comes
  767. back in the form of the opposite sex. It then, goes  after the person
  768. who killed him or her, along with a team of all the vampires existing
  769. at that time," he explained. 
  770.  
  771. "Sixth month, sixth day, sixth hour..Giles are you noticing this 666
  772. ocult reference that I'm noticing?"she asked him.
  773.  
  774. "Yes and I believe that has something to do with the fact that the
  775. Master is like a vampires versian of the Christian religion's
  776. "Anichrist," he explained.
  777.  
  778. "Ok, so anyway, the person who killed the Master," Buffy observed,
  779. "That would be me. So why don't they just say "the slayer" cause I
  780. thought that's always the person he fights during the Prophecy." 
  781.  
  782. "Well, in a few earlier cases," Giles explained,"the Slayer was not
  783. the person who killed him or her. Sometimes, it was just a person who
  784. happened to be there."
  785.  
  786. Buffy shook her head in confusion. "You keep saying "him or her." Are
  787. you saying that the Master could be female?" she asked him. 
  788.  
  789. "Well, yes. There have been some female masters in the past, and quite
  790. powerful ones, I might add," he explained. 
  791.  
  792. "Wow. Talk about girl power. And I thought women only ruled in the
  793. 90's." 
  794.  
  795. "Yes and the spirit oh the Master that is supposed to be coming will
  796. be female, since it's spirit is always the opposite sex."
  797.  
  798.  Buffy took everything in and tried putting it into her own words.
  799. "Ok, so this master spirit girl, she's coming- six months after the
  800. Master's death- which would be- next month-and on the sixth day-
  801. Giles, today is the 15th- that means that ghost girl will be coming in
  802. only three weeks, and I'm guessing she's *no* Casper-which means we're
  803. gonna need a *lot* of time to prepare for it- and we don't even know
  804. much of anything about it- I mean it's a spirit,worse then your
  805. ordinary poltergeist, and it's the Masters-opposite sex or not- Giles,
  806. how the hell are we gonna kill this thing!? Or..make it go away?"
  807.  
  808.  Giles took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes in distress. 
  809.  
  810. He looked at Buffy who stood waiting for an answer. One that he didn't
  811. have. "I-I don't know," he told her truthfully. 
  812.  
  813. Buffy couldn't believe it. "You don't know?! You're the Watcher-
  814. You're supposed to know these things.... Just tell me one thing- Am I
  815. supposed to die from this?" she asked him with tears almost beginning
  816. to form in her eyes.
  817.  
  818.  Giles shook his head. "No, not that I'm aware if. All that's listed
  819. in the Watcher Diaries is what I've told you. That is why, I need you
  820. to find out from Angel, everything he knows about this," he told her. 
  821.  
  822. Buffy finally calmed down and returned to her normal self.
  823.  
  824.  "Ok, well, I'll make sure I make some time in between kisses for us
  825. to chat about it," she told him. 
  826.  
  827. "Buffy, this is nothing to joke about. You must be serious." 
  828.  
  829. "I was being serious just now," she joked again.
  830.  
  831.  Giles gave Buffy the same stern look from before. 
  832.  
  833. "Ok, Ok, I'll make sure that I talk to him about it. And by the way, I
  834. was being serious just a few minutes before the other thing I said.
  835. Maybe a little *too* serious. Anyway, are we done here cause I have to
  836. get to class now?" 
  837.  
  838. Giles nodded. 
  839.  
  840. "Ok then I better go. See ya, Giles," she said as she walked out the
  841. library doors.
  842.  
  843. LATER ON IN THE SCHOOL DAY
  844.  
  845. *bell rings*
  846.       
  847.  
  848. Willow and Xander walked together out of the classroom that they were
  849. just in and down the halls. 
  850.  
  851. Approaching them was Cordelia, Devon, and Oz.
  852.  
  853.  Willow smiled at the sight of Oz. 
  854.  
  855. When they were in speaking range Xander acknowledged Cordelia."Well,
  856. would you look who it is," Xander said looking at her. 
  857.  
  858. "What's that supposed to mean?" she asked him. 
  859.  
  860. "Nothing. Just, look who it is- it's you."
  861.  
  862.  "And your point is?" 
  863.  
  864. "No point. I was just- acknowledging your presence," he told her.
  865.  
  866.  "Why?" she asked him in a snotty voice. "Never mind. I don't wanna
  867. know. Come on Devon. Let's go." She pulled Devon with her down the
  868. halls. 
  869.  
  870. Oz stayed behind. "Hi," he said looking at Willow. 
  871.  
  872. "Hey Oz," she said smiling. "Weren't you supposed to leave with them,"
  873. Willow asked referring to Cordelia and Devon. 
  874.  
  875. "Well, see, I wanted to know if you were going to the Bronze tonight,"
  876. he explained. 
  877.  
  878. "Oh. Well, I don't know- I mean I gotta check with my friends to see
  879. if their going or not," she told him. "Why do you wanna know?" she
  880. asked him. 
  881.  
  882. "Well my band is gonna be playing there tonight and if you were going,
  883. then you'd get to see us play. And, you know, maybe when we're done
  884. playing, you and I could maybe hang out together for a little while if
  885. it was cool with you," he told her. 
  886.  
  887. "Oh, yeah, that, that would be cool-with me. Yeah." 
  888.  
  889. "So you're going then?" Oz asked her. 
  890.  
  891. "Yeah. I'll be there," she told him. 
  892.  
  893. "Alright, well I'll see you then." 
  894.  
  895. "Yeah, see ya," she said with a smile. She turned and watched him walk
  896. away. 
  897.  
  898. "Willow? Hello? Anyone there?" Xander called waving his hands in front
  899. of her face. 
  900.  
  901. "Oh, yeah. Sorry, Xand." 
  902.  
  903. "That's ok. So, I guess we're Bronze bound tonight, huh?" Xander asked.
  904.  
  905.  "Yeah," she answered with a smile across her face. 
  906.  
  907. "Well, that'll work out good. I can dance with Cordelia while Devon's
  908. busy singing and you can stare at Oz, the great and powerful." 
  909.  
  910. "Xander!" 
  911.  
  912. "Sorry, couldn't stop myself there. The Wizard of Oz thing was gonna
  913. come up some time. And then was the time." 
  914.  
  915. "By the way, why were you and Cordelia fighting back there. I thought
  916. you guys were ok with each other now." Willow asked confused slightly. 
  917.  
  918. "We are ok, but Devon and Oz were there. We can't act like love birds
  919. in front of them. Not that we are or anything," he explained.
  920.  
  921.  Xander noticed Buffy walking up ahead.
  922.  "Hey, let's go see if Buffy can join us tonight," he told Willow. 
  923.  
  924. The two ran to catch up with her. 
  925.  
  926. "Hey Buff." 
  927.  
  928. "Hey guys." 
  929.  
  930. "So, Willow and I are going to the Bronze tonight. Feel like joining
  931. us?" he asked. 
  932.  
  933. "Well, I would but I'm gonna go check on Angel tonight. I have to find
  934. out stuff from him for Giles too," she told them.
  935.  
  936.  "Well, if it's for Giles then I guess you should," Xander said a
  937. little disappointed. 
  938.  
  939. "Oz is gonna be there," Willow told her excitedly. "And we're gonna
  940. hang out when his band's done playing."
  941.  
  942.  "And you said you two would never become a thing. It's already in the
  943. working," Buffy told her. 
  944.  
  945. Willow smiled.
  946.  
  947. *bell rings*
  948.  
  949. "Ooo, gotta get to class. I'll see you guys," Buffy said and then
  950. started to walk to her next class. 
  951.  
  952. Willow and Xander did the same.
  953.  
  954.  Buffy turned back around. "Willow!" she shouted down the hall.
  955.  
  956.  Willow turned around. 
  957.  
  958. "Good luck tonight." 
  959.  
  960. Willow smiled and they both turned and continued on to their next class.
  961.  
  962. LATER THAT NIGHT
  963. ANGEL'S APARTMENT
  964.  
  965.   Buffy knocked on Angel's door."Angel?" she called. 
  966.  
  967. She tried to open it but it as locked of course. 
  968.  
  969. She knocked again. "Angel, it's just me .Open up." 
  970.  
  971. She waited then knocked once more.
  972.  
  973.  When he still didn't answer she decided to let herself in by kicking
  974. open the door. 
  975.  
  976. She walked in and closed the door behind her. 
  977.  
  978. "Angel?...Hello? Anybody home?" she called. *He's gotta be home. He's
  979. recuperating* she thought. 
  980.  
  981. Finally she came to the area where his bed was and found him sound
  982. asleep in it.  She smiled at the sight of his sleeping figure, then
  983. got an idea. 
  984.  
  985. She went over to the phone and dialed her home phone number. 
  986.  
  987. "Mom? Hi. I'm over at Willow's- she's helping me study for this big
  988. history test and it looks like we won't be done till late tonight. So
  989. can I stay over and get a ride to school with her?...Yeah, it's ok
  990. with her parents...Ok, thanks a lot mom..I love you too. Bye." 
  991.  
  992. Buffy listened as her mom hung up and grinned mischeiviously at what
  993. she had just done.
  994.  
  995.  Then, as she was going to hang up the phone she was pulled back onto
  996. the bed behind her and on top of Angel who immediately leaned up and
  997. kissed her.
  998.  
  999.  They kissed again and soon the two were wrapped up in a whirl of
  1000. passion.
  1001.  
  1002.  Angel began kissing down Buffy's face and to her neck.  
  1003.  
  1004. Buffy let out a slight moan as Angel kissed her neck. She then moved
  1005. to claim his lips with hers again, afraid that if he kissed her neck
  1006. any longer, he might go vamp on her. 
  1007.  
  1008. But soon she found his lips trailing back down the same path to her
  1009. neck. 
  1010.  
  1011. She had to admit, it felt great when he kissed her there, but again,
  1012. she didn't want him to lose his control. 
  1013. It was too late though- his lips were already there and the pleasure
  1014. from him kissing her there, overwhelmed her. 
  1015.  
  1016. "Angel," she managed to get out, trying to make him stop, but what it
  1017. really sounded like was a sigh of pleasure. 
  1018.  
  1019. After a moment, she called his name again, this time sounded more like
  1020. her calling him. 
  1021.  
  1022. Still he didn't stop. "Mmm?" he just said as his lips trailed up and
  1023. down her face to her neck.
  1024.  
  1025.  She let out a soft cry again as he kissed a sensitive spot that he
  1026. hadn't kissed yet. 
  1027.  
  1028. Finally she was able to tell him. "Um, Angel, maybe you shouldn't kiss
  1029. me there." 
  1030.  
  1031. Angel stopped and lifted his head to meet her eyes. He was a little
  1032. confused. "Sorry-I thought you were enjoying it." 
  1033.  
  1034. Buffy blushed alittle."I was- I was- it's just-Well I was afraid you'd
  1035. go vampire on me- No offense," she explained. 
  1036.  
  1037. Angel chuckled. "Why would you think that?" he asked with a smile. 
  1038.  
  1039. "Oh- I don't know, maybe because you-on a few occasions-have been
  1040. known to go vamp on me while we were lip locked," she said with a
  1041. slight grin. 
  1042.  
  1043. Angel shook his head. "Well, just so you know, that really only
  1044. happens when I'm angry-or- I have something on my mind. But- I can
  1045. control it otherwise," he explained to her with a smile. 
  1046.  
  1047. Buffy tried to fight back her impulse to ask him more, but couldn't.
  1048. "Even if you're kissing my neck- the very same spot that you could be
  1049. feeding on me from?" 
  1050.  
  1051. Angel's face saddened a bit. 
  1052.  
  1053. "I'm Sorry, that didn't come out the right way," she told him.
  1054.  
  1055.  Angel just looked away. 
  1056.  
  1057. Buffy took her hand and turned his face so that he faced her. "Hey, I
  1058. trust you Angel, I do." 
  1059.  
  1060. Angel nodded, but still looked a little sad. "I know," he answered. 
  1061.  
  1062. Buffy changed the subject."Well, so anyway, I came here to see how you
  1063. were-You're ok, right?" 
  1064.  
  1065. Angel nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." 
  1066.  
  1067. "Ok, good-Is there anything I could do?" she asked with a smile. 
  1068.  
  1069. Angel grinned. "Well, you could start by, kissing me again." 
  1070.  
  1071. Buffy smiled back at him. "That I can definitely do," she said as she
  1072. leaned down to kiss him. 
  1073.  
  1074. Their lips met for a few more kisses before they pulled away. "I've
  1075. missed you," Angel said as their lips parted. "Been kinda lonely
  1076. here-and without you," he continued. 
  1077.  
  1078. Buffy smiled. "Sorry I haven't come by- but I thought you'd need some
  1079. time to rest and recuperate without any distractions," she explained. 
  1080.  
  1081. "Yeah, you're probably right," he told her with a smile. Buffy loved
  1082. when he told her she was right. 
  1083.  
  1084. "Well, I'm here now-And we have the whole night to be together-I told
  1085. my mom I was at Willow's so I can stay the night," she told him. 
  1086.  
  1087. Angel shook his head. "Buffy, that's very kind of you to be here, but
  1088. I'm not sure it's such a good idea you spend the night." 
  1089.  
  1090. Buffy didn't understand. "Well, why not? If you're worried that you
  1091. don't have an extra bed, you shouldn't cause I think were a little
  1092. past sleeping in separate beds. I can just- sleep right here next to
  1093. you," she said then patted a spot on the bed. 
  1094.  
  1095. "That's just it, Buffy. Don't you think it would be a little tempting
  1096. being together in the same bed? I mean don't you thing we might end up
  1097. wanting to-," 
  1098.  
  1099. "Have sex?" Buffy suggested bluntly. 
  1100.  
  1101. Angel seemed a little uncomfortable. "Well..yeah," he told her. 
  1102.  
  1103. "So- what's so wrong with that? I mean, we've been way past a cup of
  1104. of coffee. We can't even go 5 minutes without kissing each other." 
  1105.  
  1106. "It's just- If I lose control Buffy, which I could, you could die. And
  1107. hurting you is the last thing I want to do," he told her. 
  1108.  
  1109. "Angel, I know that-But I don't think you would. I trust you enough to
  1110. know that you'd never hurt me, even in your vampire mode."
  1111.  
  1112.  Angel shook his head. "Buffy please- It's hard enough not to- please
  1113. don't make it any harder," he begged.

  1115. Buffy looked deeply into Angel's eyes. "Please Angel- I love you..I
  1116. need you," she pleaded with him.
  1117.  
  1118.  Angel lightened a bit. "What caused the change of mind? Just before,
  1119. you didn't even want me kissing you- and now-," Angel began, curious. 
  1120.  
  1121. "You told me you could control it- and I believe you. And I realized
  1122. that we don't know how much time we'll have together. I mean, it was
  1123. the scariest thing, you almost died the other night. And me, being the
  1124. Slayer-Well,you know, Slayers are known to have short lives. I figure
  1125. we should do..things..while we have the chance," she explained. 
  1126.  
  1127. Angel agreed. "Alright," he said with a slight nod. 
  1128.  
  1129. His eyes stared deeply into Buffy's.But there was something about
  1130. them- something about his eyes that was different. It was as if they
  1131. held an untold secret-as if Angel knew that something was about to
  1132. tear him and Buffy apart. 
  1133.  
  1134. "Ok?" Buffy asked with a smile.
  1135.  
  1136.  "Ok," Angel replied grinning. 
  1137.  
  1138. Buffy leaned in and kissed him.
  1139.  
  1140.  "I love you, Buffy. I want you to know that," he told her. 
  1141.  
  1142. She kissed him again. "I know," she said with a smile. 
  1143.  
  1144. Angel looked as if he was waiting for her to say more. 
  1145.  
  1146. "I love you too," she finished finally. 
  1147.  
  1148. He smiled-but then that look appeared in his eyes again-the look of
  1149. pain-of knowing something Buffy did not.
  1150.  
  1151.  Buffy kissed him again, then saw that look in his eyes. "Hey, what's
  1152. wrong?" she asked concerned. 
  1153.  
  1154. "It's nothing- really." 
  1155.  
  1156. "Are you sure? I mean are you nervous or something?-'cause I'll admit
  1157. that I am a little," she asked slightly worried. 
  1158.  
  1159. "No- I'm fine," Angel said with a smile. He then pulled her back down
  1160. on him for a kiss. 
  1161.  
  1162. "Good," Buffy said as she pulled the covers up over them , coming back
  1163. down on him, and kissing him.
  1164.  
  1165.  They kissed each other passionately for a few moments. 
  1166.  
  1167. Then Buffy took control and began kissing down Angel's face, nibbling
  1168. on his jaw line and planting soft kisses down his neck. She then
  1169. paused to help him remove his white tee-shirt, and began kissing him
  1170. again from his collar bone down to his smooth chest. She then worked
  1171. her way back up to his mouth as her hands ran up and down his arms and
  1172. broad chest, feeling his muscles....beneath her touch. 
  1173.  
  1174. Their kiss lingered on for a while, before it was broken by Angel, who
  1175. sat up in bed. 
  1176.  
  1177. "Angel, what's worng," Buffy asked concerned. 
  1178.  
  1179. Angel shook his head. "I can't. I can't do this Buffy...I'm sorry. I
  1180. 'm so, sorry. You know I'd do anything for you Buffy, but I can't do
  1181. this. I can't," Angel explained to her, quite upset.
  1182.  
  1183.  He looked almost as if he was about to cry and Buffy could sense
  1184. that. She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him close to her. 
  1185.  
  1186. "It's ok Angel. It's ok-I understand. I shouldn't have..pressured you
  1187. so much. I'm sorry," she whispered in his ear. 
  1188.  
  1189. Angel pulled away after a short while and laid back down on the bed.
  1190. Buffy laid down also, resting her head against his shoulder.
  1191.  
  1192.  She turned to look at him. "Are you ok?" she asked him.
  1193.  
  1194.  Angel nodded. "Yeah, I'm ok," he replied in a sad tone. 
  1195.  
  1196. "I still love you,Angel. You know that, right?," she told him. 
  1197.  
  1198. "I know," he replied.
  1199.  
  1200.  Buffy gave him a little smile then settled her head on his chest and
  1201. closed her eyes.
  1202.  
  1203.  Angel put an arm around her and did the same.  
  1204.  
  1205. Little did Buffy know that,inside, Angel really wasn't fine or ok-and
  1206. she would soon not be either.
  1207.
