Spoilers: I've changed this. This story takes place after BBB.
Disclaimers: Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and all characters therein belong
to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and The WB. JΣzen (pronounced Jay-sten or
Jay-zen) is my own creation.
Author's note: This idea came to me long when Buffy first began.
Needless to say, I was very angry at Joss when the Angel episode aired
and my idea for a good vampire went down the tubes.
But I got over that and since then the idea has... evolved. Also. I
have not finished this yet.
Summary so far: Angelus figured out who was helping Buffy. Joyce put
in an appearance. Hope you liked that bit of comic relief. It's the
last one you'll get. From here on in, you'll get no quarter from our
players.
INNER DEMONS Part 10
"Your mother is very nice," JΣzen commented in his normal accent.
"Thanks," Buffy said. "I'm sorry about all that. It's just that too
many vampires have free access to my house.
"I understand completely," JΣzen nodded. "Do not worry about that, I
am not offended."
As they got to the end of the street, JΣzen stooped to get his weapons
out of the bushes. Buffy shivered as she watched him. In her hurry to
leave the house, she had forgotten to grab a jacket.
"Where are my manners?" JΣzen scolded himself as he looked at her.
"Here, take this." He removed his coat and handed it to her.
"Thanks," Buffy said as she put it on. As she closed the coat around
her, a memory stirred. "You're the second vampire to give me his
jacket."
"You miss him," he observed.
"Is it that obvious?" she asked.
"It doesn't take someone my age to figure it out," JΣzen replied.
Buffy sighed. "Is it wrong to hold out for a cure?"
"A woman once told me," he started, "that there are always bigger
spells. There will always be a more powerful curse. And a spell that
has been worked once can be worked again."
"But what if we can't find a spell or a curse to bring him back?"
"Would Angel want you to suffer at the hands of Angelus?"
"You talk as if they're two different people," she said.
"In a way they are," he said. "The demon has a personality all it's
own. It's separate from Angel, yet they are still the same."
"You mean, Angel could do what you did?" Buffy asked.
"My case was different," JΣzen explained. "My anger at what happened
to my sister was what drove my demon. When that anger left me, it no
longer had the control it had before. That loss of power gave me the
window I needed to retake control of myself. That didn't happen to
Angel. The curse gave him the power to reassert himself. But, with
that gone..."
"He can't do it," Buffy finished.
"Exactly," JΣzen confirmed. "Angel is still in there somewhere. But
he's trapped by the demon."
* * * * *
Angelus set out early that evening. His goal: to find JΣzen. He knew
the older vampire was hanging around Buffy. But why? What was his
game? Whatever it was, he was playing it close to the chest.
Angelus knew JΣzen was good, but he didn't know he was *that* good. To
get into Buffy's confidence like that took the skills of a master.
His search took him to a wearhouse near the Bronze. That's when he
sensed it. He was close, he knew he was. But where were they? His
only option was to keep looking.

PART 8 PG-13 (Violence. Warning: It might be disturbing for some
people.)
A frigid silence fell upon the room. No one dared speak, for fear that
they would say the wrong thing. Hope looked as if she would cry. ôYou
killed her?ö she whispered.
He could feel shame rise through his body. ôIt was just after I
became a vampire. I was out one night, looking for a meal, and saw her.
When I attacked her, I didnÆt know she was a slayer, but when she fought
back with strength and skill equal to mine, I knew who she was.ö He
paused, and felt the burning tears fall down his face turn into sobs.
It was the first time Buffy ever saw him cry. She put her arms around
him and held him tight.
ôWha...What happened?ö Hope asked.
Angel tried to speak, but couldnÆt. ôAngel, do you mind if I tell?ö
Giles asked him. He shook his head ænoÆ. The Watcher took a deep,
sharp breath. ôThe two fought all night, neither one of them wanting to
give up. Finally, at a half an hour till sunrise they stopped. Not
wanting to die from the sunlight, Angel ran away into the shadows,
leaving Mira in a bad state. They both had fought so hard they hadnÆt
realized the damage that was being done to them. Their adrenaline had
numbed their pain. After their fight, she hunted almost every night in
hopes to see him again. When she would run into him, he taunted her.
When she didnÆt see him, he would scare her family.ö
ôI donÆt understand, why didnÆt he just kill her and get it over with?ö
Hope questioned angrily.
Giles preceded to continue, but Angel stopped him. ôItÆs my story. I
can finish it,ö he breathed. Trying to hold in his anguish, he spoke.
ôI...I wanted to mess with her head...drive her insane, and
unfortunately, I did. On the night of her 19th birthday, I attacked
and killed her family. She came home and found them there. I had...ö
he paused, and looked down, covering his face with his hands,
ômutilated their bodies.ö Hope let out a stifled cry. The tears never
stopped flowing from AngelÆs dark eyes. ôI was hiding outside one of
the house windows, so I could see her reaction. When she saw them--she
threw up, then let out the most bloodcurdling scream. It was an awful
sound, but I loved it. Her face was twisted in horror.ö AngelÆs head
began to throb at the memories of his actions. He could still smell
their blood on his hands, he could still see the look of fear that her
family had in their eyes right before he killed them. The pain he was
feeling at the memories made him want to drive a stake through his
heart. ôShe was full of rage, because she knew that it was I did it.
Knowing she would come after me, I waited in the village graveyard. She
got there soon I did. She walked up to me, and said, ækill meÆ. She
bared her neck to me. I grabbed her and shoved her into a tree, and bit
her.ö

~PART 5~
Willow's parents both worked the night shifts, so Buffy was all alone
in the big house. Willow had told them Buffy's mother was out of town
and she didn't want to stay in the house alone. Well it wasn't a complete
lie. Willow's parents had graciously extended her an invitation. As of now
Buffy was laying in the guestroom trying to catch up on the sleep she lost
last night, but she couldn't fall asleep. So she decided to go for a walk and
get some fresh air. Her mind wandered to what Angel had said.
"He said not to invite anyone in. He didn't say I couldn't go out."
she murmured to herself.
She left a note on the kitchen counter telling Willow she went for
a walk, and she stepped into the cool, crisp night air locking the door
behind her.
****************
Buffy had been walking for awhile. Nothing looked remotely
familiar to her, but she was hoping something would finally click. She
had walked past the cemetary and stopped in front of it. Something
seemed to beckon her from within her its dark depths, as if she frolicked
in there every night. But she couldn't bring herself to go in, at least not
alone. So she walked past and ended up near the wharehouse section
of town. She kept walking oblivious to the dark figure in the shadows.
When Spike saw the Slayer walk past he stepped out from between
one of the many alleys. Spike had called all the vampires together to make
sure none of them were out hunting tonight. He wanted to make sure the
Slayer was killed by his hands and to make Buffy believe he was a friend
was only the beginning of his plan.
"Buffy." he called putting on a innocent face. Which was kind of
hard since he killed his victims mercilessly and reveled in it. He didn't
have an ounce of innocence in him.
Buffy turned around to acknowledge the voice. She saw a short,
peroxide blonde haired man running towards her.
"Yes." she asked wondering who this guy was. He looked to be in
his early twenties as Angel did, but she couldn't place him as everything
else for the past few days.
"Willow and Xander told me what happened. You shouldn't be out
alone at night in your condition." he played her for all it was worth.
"I just went for a walk. May I ask who you are?" Buffy questioned
still puzzled.
"Oh, forgive me. The name's Spike. I help out in the library at
your school." he lied through his fangs.
"I'm sorry I can't remember." Buffy informed.
"That's quite all right. Come I'll make you some tea." Boy Spike
was loving this.
Buffy not seeing anything wrong with his invitation or with this
Spike she willingly followed him into a wharehouse a few ways down.
Little did Buffy know she was walking right into a trap and possibly her
death
******************
Once she stepped over the threshold of the wharehouse she
heard Spike yell.
"Grab her."
Before Buffy knew what was going on both her arms were pinned
to the side by two very large creatures. She didn't have time to ponder
why they looked as they did, she just knew she was in big trouble.
"What are you doing? You said you were a friend." Buffy yelled.
"I lied so stake me." Spike laughed hysterically at his own joke.
"Oh, I forgot. You don't know who you are or what you do." Spike informed.
"Your the Slayer and I'm a vampire." Spike finished and changed his face
to his demonic side. Buffy screamed and began to struggle against her
captors. Spike laughed.
"What are going to do to me." Buffy asked on the verge to tears.
Spike was loving every moment of this.
"Princess, come here. I want to show you something." Spike
spoke to a dark haired woman. Drusilla approached Spike.
"Look at the poor thing all scared." Drusilla cooed.
"Ain't it wonderful, love?" Spike asked.
"Are you going to make her dead for Princess?" Drusilla asked.
"Very dead darling. Now go make plans for your party." Spike
ordered.
"Can I invite Daddy and the slayer's little friends?" she asked.
"Of course love, we'll have a nice dinner celebration after they
watch me kill their little heroine. And we'll bring Angelus back to our side."
Spike assured his girlfriend.
Drusilla walked away leaving Spike to taunt Buffy with a happy smile
on her face.
"Very very dead." Spike spoke directly to Buffy and let out a wicked
laugh.
Buffy shrank back and let out a small whimper. "God, help me."
she prayed.

~PART 6~
"Buffy we're back." Willow yelled inside the empty house. When no
one answered Willow and Xander exchanged a look of worry.
"Buffy?" Xander called this time. "I'll take the upstairs and you
look
a round down here." Xander ordered taking control.
Willow nodded her head and Xander took off up the stairs. After
checking all the rooms upstairs and finding the bed in the room Buffy
was staying in unmade, Xander went downstairs to tell Willow that Buffy
had been here.
"Xander." Willow screeched before he reached the bottom step.
He ran into the kitchen where he saw Willow clutching a piece of
paper. Tears were threatening to spill over her eye lids.
"What? What's wrong?" Xander rushed out.
Willow held up the piece of paper. Her hands shaking with fear.
"She left. She went out, alone, by herself. What if she's hurt or dead.
She could be...."
"Shhh." Xander cut off his hysterical friend and pulled her into a
hug.
"I'm sure she's alright." Xander tried to seem in control, but he was inches
away from losing it. What would he do if he ever lost Buffy or Willow.
They're his reason for being. Before Buffy came to town it was just him
and Willow, but since Buffy came their lives have been filled with adventure
and danger. They were always kept on their toes. Besides of making all
his nightmares come true, being possessed, or eaten Buffy brought with
her new friends for him to make. Herself, Giles, and as much as he hated
to admit it Angel. <Yeah, but how many other boy's can say they know a
vampire?> he thought to himself. <Don't mess with me or I'll feed you to
the vampire. It did have its advantages.> Xander laughed inwardly. He no
longer saw himself as a "loser" as so many others labeled him. He felt
more confident and sure of himself. All because of Buffy.
If Buffy died she wouldn't know what to do. She had given her so
much. She wasn't Willow Rosenburg Geek Extradonaire anymore. At
least not in her own eyes. It's more like Willow you mess with me I'll
stake you Rosenburg. Since Buffy had come Willow felt more self-confident.
As though what others said about her didn't matter, only what she thought
of herself. She felt like she had a purpose in life, even if it frightened
her.
She was research girl. Looking up information or dangerous prophecies
to aid Buffy in her destiny. To know you helped save the world is an
overwhelming feeling. It didn't matter how much danger she put herself in
or stumbled into Buffy was one of her two best friends and she wouldn't
trade it for the world. If the supernatural came with Buffy's friendship,
so be it.
"We need to get to the library and let Giles know." Xander broke
Willow out of her reverie, wiping the tears from her face. Willow nodded
and they headed out towards the library running as fast as they could.
*****************
"What did she ask you?" Giles questioned Angel as they sat in the
library conversing over his and Buffy's conversation earlier in the evening.
"She asked me if I thought vampires existed." Angel answered
to Giles amazed question.
"What did you say to her?" Giles continued as he got up to
reshelve some books.
"What was I supposed to say. Yeah, how do I look. I told her
anything's possible." Angel finished.
"If she's having the nightmares and correctly identifies the
creatures as vampires, her memory may be returning." Giles reported.
Suddenly the library doors burst open with a bang and Willow
and Xander rushed through gasping for air.
"She's gone." Xander gushed trying to suck air into his burning lungs.
"What?" Angel asked confused.
Willow stepped foward and handed Giles the note that Buffy left
before going out. As Giles read the note fear crept in to his voice.
"She left by herself?" Giles asked his voice cracking with fear.
Angel stood up from his seat. "Damn it. I told her not to invite anyone
in. I should've told her not to go out as well." Angel said grief striken.
"It's not your fault." Willow tried to offer comfort. "Do you think
they
have her?" she asked speaking to no one in particular.
Before anyone could answer Willow's question the sound of broken
glass turned their attention to the rock sailing their way. Angel stepped
in front of the group and caught it. He removed the note attached and
began reading it.
"How many times are they going to use the note tied to a rock and
throw it through the window routine? It's getting soooo old." Xander
asked half joking.
The rest of them ignored Xander's sarcastic comment and waited
patiently as Angel read the note.
"Well it looks like we're invited to a dinner party." Angel informed.
"They're going to cook us dinner?" Xander questioned. When eveyone
glared at him he stepped away. "Pretend I didn't say that. Again." he
gulped. They turned their attention back to Angel.
"To get right to the point, they have Buffy, they're going to kill her,
and I'm going to save her." Angel confirmed.
"We all are." Giles reinformed.
No one argued just grabbed the weapons bag and rushed out of
the library to stop Buffy from meeting her terrible fate.

INNER DEMONS Part 11
"So, how am I supposed to fight him?" Buffy asked. "I mean, he hardly
ever comes near me."
"He will," JΣzen said, smiling to himself. "Angelus is no fool, he
knows that you're as much a threat to him as he is to you. However, you
have one advantage."
"What's that?"
"Well, you know Angelus' hunting patterns," JΣzen explained. "And you
know how obsessed he is with you. That obsession is his weakness.
Unlike his other women, you have the power and the ability to fight
back."
"Just because I'm a slayer and they weren't?"
"Not just any slayer," he corrected. "Over the years, I've read up on
past slayers and kept track of the current ones. And you, Buffy, are
the most unique of them all. You are inventive, resourceful, and,
unlike previous slayers, you haven't cut yourself off from the rest of
the world. That, and your ability to have found others to share the
burden of your secret has and will make you more successful than any
slayer in history. Indeed, you, my dear," he said, touching a hand to
her face, "survive longer than the others because of your refusal to
play by the rules set up centuries ago. Most fiends would be fools to
go up against one such as you. Isn't that right, Angelus?"
Buffy looked up at JΣzen to see him staring over her head at someone.
She spun around and there he was, coming out of the shadows.
"Oh!" the intruder said, "am I interupting something?"

If this makes it to the list it'll be a first; on
previous tries I haven't managed to get through.
Um, do you have an e-mail addy, Sarah? Maybe something
got messed up, and if this shouldn't have gone to the

PART 9 PG
ôOh God...Oh Lord,ö Hope said, feeling pressure in her chest. ôI canÆt
breath....ö Buffy ran over to Hope just as she passed out.
ôHope!ö Buffy shouted. ôClear off that table!ö She commanded, picking
her friend up. Giles did as she said, and Buffy laid her gently down.
Angel took off his jacket and laid it underneath her head.
ôIÆll go get some water,ö Jenny said.
ôThis is all my fault,ö Angel said, wiping his tears away. ôI canÆt
believe I ...ö
ôIts okay, Angel. What you did wasnÆt your fault. It was the demon
within you. It was Angelus.ö
He shook his head. ôBut it was done by my hands. Buffy, What I told
you doesnÆt even begin to describe the things IÆve done.ö She kissed
him, and took his hand and squeezed it.
ôI know. But you still can blame yourself for these things...ö she
trailed off, and looked over at Hope. ôI know that she wonÆt blame you
either.ö
ôHope? Are you awake?ö Hope opened her eyes. She could see Giles
standing over her, and Jenny next to him.
ôOh,ö she said, smiling, ôIt was all a dream.ö She sat up, to see
Angel and Buffy walking over to her. ôOh no! It wasnÆt a dream.ö She
put a hand to her head. ôDid I pass out?ö
ôYes, you did. Are you feeling all right?ö Buffy asked her, concerned.
Hope nodded. ôI think so.ö
ôIÆm so sorry. I...I...ö Angel apologized.
ôDonÆt be sorry. I know that it wasnÆt really you.ö She tried to
soothe the tension between her and Angel. ôSo, ha ha, what do we do
now?ö
ôNow, we party!ö A womanÆs soft voice called out from behind them. The
group turned around to see Drusilla standing before them, very much
alive. Behind her was Spike and about 20 vampires, all with their game
faceÆs on.
ôOh my god your alive,ö Buffy uttered.
ôYes. Alive and strong. IsnÆt that right, love?ö Spike said, kissing
DrusillaÆs hand.
ôYes, Spike.ö she looked at Angel, ôHello my pet.ö
Buffy turned to Angel, who had transformed into his vampiric face. He
growled, ôWhat do you want?ö
ôDonÆt you know, love. We want you,ö she said laughing.
ôIts party time. Charge!ö Spike yelled, and all the vampires ran to
attack them.

PART 10 PG-13
Buffy reacted instantly by screaming at Giles, Hope, and Jenny. ôRUN!
GET OUT OF HERE NOW!ö The Slayer threw a chair at the oncoming vamps,
almost knocking them all down. She grabbed another chair and threw it
at a window, breaking all the glass. ôGO!ö She said, pointing toward
the hole. Buffy ran to Angel, but two vamps got in her way. One of
them kicked her, and she stumbled back. ôNOT NOW!ö she screamed.
Adrenaline pumped through her body as she lunged at him, throwing him
over her head and into a bookshelf. She grabbed a nearby stake and
drove it through the heart of the other. Before she could get to Angel,
3 vamps came up behind her and grabbed her, making it unable for her to
move. Buffy struggled desperately to escape, but failed. She watched
as two burly vampires grabbed a hold of Angel. He tried to fight them
off, but they were too strong for him.
ôWell well well. IsnÆt this nice? Poor little Slayer and her traitor
of a boyfriend. Tie them up.ö He ordered. ôAnd you two, go get the
other three who ran from here, and I want them alive,ö he commanded,
and two vampires left to get Giles, Jenny, and Hope.
ôLet her go! Take me, but spare her,ö Angel yelled.
Spike only laughed. ôYou actually think IÆm going to let her go?
YouÆre dumber than I thought.ö
He walked over to Buffy and sniffed her. ôMmm. You smell good. Good
enough to eat.ö Buffy spit in his face. ôWell arenÆt you the feisty
one?ö He laughed, wiping his face off. The vampire grabbed her neck
and squeezed softly. ôI wouldnÆt do that again if I were you. You
know, I just got a brilliant idea,ö he looked at Dru, ôWouldnÆt it be
nice to make our little sunshine here one of us?ö
ôOooohh, Spike. LetÆs do it. And afterward we can have a party, with
cake and presents.ö
ôI would rather die than become like you,ö Buffy snapped.
ôWell that is a shame, but it can be arranged.ö he smiled evily. ôYou
are very sexy, very beautiful.ö All of a sudden Spike kissed her
roughly on the lips. Buffy cringed.
ôLET HER GO!ö Angel bellowed, and tried his hardest to break free, but
he was tied to tightly to the chair.
Dru sauntered over to the angry vampire. ôDonÆt worry my pet,ö Dru
crooned as she caressed his face. ôIt will all be better soon, I
promise. We just have to get you home.ö
*********
Buffy and Angel were dragged to an abandoned home in the outskirts of
Sunnydale. They had been blindfolded and gagged, and had no clue where
they were. ôHey Spike, where do we put them?ö a voice asked.
ôJust dump them in one of the bedrooms. They wonÆt be going anywhere.
Did you find the other three?ö
ôWe almost caught them, but they ran into a house and we couldnÆt go
inside.ö
ôCanÆt you do anything right?ö He asked, angrily. ôForget it. Just
take them away.ö
Buffy felt herself being carried upstairs. <Oh God, what is going on?>
ôOUCH!ö Her muffled voice said, when they dropped her body on the hard
wooden floor. She heard the door shut and listened for any noise. When
she was sure that there wasnÆt anybody else with her, she spit the gag
out of her mouth.
ôBuffy?ö
ôAngel?ö
ôAre you okay?ö
ôYeah, IÆm fine, but I think my whole side is bruised. How are you
holding up?ö
ôI canÆt get these ropes undone. The son of a bitch tied them too
tight.ö
ôMy wrists are killing me. The rope is making my skin raw.ö
ôCan you get your blindfold off?ö
ôI can try.ö Buffy rubbed her head back and forth along the floor,
trying to get the blindfold to inch up so she could see. Finally, after
scratching her face up, it came off, and she opened her eyes. Her
blurry vision took a moment to adjust. She looked up and examined her
surroundings. ôUgghh...where are we?ö The room was small, and there
was one tiny window covered in cobwebs with a curtain over it. Dust
filled every nook and cranny, and the wood was rotting. She saw Angel
laying five feet in front of her. ôOh Angel, your bleeding.ö His
wrists had been cut up from the coarse rope.
ôCan you scoot closer to me?ö Buffy wiggled her way over to him. ôNow
turn so that your back is to my back, and our hands are touching. She
did as he said, and when there hand met, she felt relief flood over her.
Just his touch comforted her. ôOkay, now try and undo the ropes.ö
Buffy frantically worked at his ropes.
ôDamn, they are tight.ö
ôJust keep trying.ö
Despite the tightness of it, she managed to undo the binding rope. ôI
got it!ö she exclaimed.
ôSshh! Keep your voice down.ö Angel reached up and pulled off his
blindfold and undid the rope at his feet. He immediately reached over
and untied Buffy. As soon as she was free, she hugged him.
ôAngel, we have to get out of here.ö They stood up and Buffy rubbed her
sore, bloody wrists. Angel wiggled the door handle, but it was locked.
He tried busting through it, but the wood was too solid and the lock was
too strong.
ôFigures. WeÆll have to go out the window.ö Buffy pulled back the
curtain. All she saw was a barren field and some trees. There was a
road nearby, but no other houses. ôWhere are we?ö she whispered.
Angel came to the window.
ôDamnit! The sun is going to rise soon.ö That is when Buffy noticed
how light it was.
ôOh no, sunrise,ö She said, and glanced at Angel. ôWe canÆt leave.ö
ôI canÆt, but you can,ö he said. ôI want you to get out of here as
fast as you can.ö
ôNo, I wontÆ leave you.ö
He grabbed her arms and pulled her close to him. ôYou have to leave.
Save yourself. Most likely they wonÆt try to kill me until sunset
anyway, so you have time to get help.ö He kissed her. ôNow go.ö
Her eyes teared up, as there lips embraced. She knew she had to go.
Buffy opened the window, to see the sun slowly start to come up.
ôAngel, get to a dark corner of a room.ö He moved out of the sunÆs
deadly rays, and Buffy put one leg out and took one last look at Angel,
as if she wouldnÆt never see his beautiful face again, and climbed out.
She grabbed onto the branch of the nearby tree and swung herself up on
it, and climbed down. The only relief she had was that she knew she was
safe, and that Giles, Hope, and Jenny had made it to safety.
The Slayer walked over to the road. ôWhich way to town?ö She asked
herself. She walked a few steps down the road, and looked behind her.
Then, like a miracle from heaven, she saw a car driving from the
distance. She stuck out her thumb, and hoped they would stop. ôCome
on, come on. Please stop.ö The car slowed down, and pulled off to the
side of the road where she was standing.
The driver rolled down the passenger window. ôWhere to?ö The elderly
woman asked. ôOh dear!ö she exclaimed, noticing BuffyÆs disheveled
clothes, hair, and bloody wrists. ôAre you okay, Miss?ö she asked in a
southern accent.
ôI need to get to Sunnydale as soon as possible. Can you take me
there?ö
ôYes, Yes. Get in!ö she urged. ôIÆm on my way there right now."

Disclaimer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its characters, yada yada yada
belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, Sandollar, WB, and Fox.... I'm just
borrowing them, (although I wish Angel was mine!) Everything else
belongs to me!
Author's note: This is your usual generic story. Angel is still good,
so basically in my story surprise/innocence didn't happen. Willow and
Oz are together, and Xander and Cordy are still hiding their secret
utility closet rondevu's. This is going to be a long story, and will
take some time so be patient with me. I'm not very good at story
telling, so if this totally sucks and isn't read-worthy, just let me
know.Oh yeah, and I want feedback, feedback, and more feedback. I don't

PART 11 PG
Buffy got into the strange car and shut the door. ôYou donÆt know how
much this means to me. Thank you so much for giving me a ride.ö
ôOh you are welcome. Where did you get those awful looking cuts on your
wrists?ö
ôIts rope burn,ö Buffy told her.
ôRope burn! Honey, were you kidnapped or somethinÆ?ö
ôSomething like that. But IÆm okay now.ö She assured the woman.
ôShould I call the police?ö she asked.
ôNo, really. IÆm okay.ö
ôWell, if you say so. You know, to be honest, I never stop for
hitchhikers, but something beckoned me to stop for you. I donÆt know
what it was. Maybe it is the full moon.ö
Buffy felt her heart thump. ôFull moon?ö
ôWell yes, donÆt you know? The Full moon is tonight.ö
She could feel her stomach rise into her throat. ôAre you sure its
tonight? I thought it was on Saturday.ö
ôOh no. You are probably thinking of last month. Last month the first
full moon was on a Saturday. This month it is on a Wednesday.ö
ôOh.ö Buffy barely uttered. <Giles was wrong. Angel will be
transformed tonight.>
The woman laughed. ôYouÆre probly wonderinÆ how I know all this. Well,
my name is Gayle Callahan. IÆm an astronomer for the local TV station.ö
ôIÆm Buffy Summers,ö <resident vampire slayer>, she thought. ôHow far
are we from town?ö
Gale smiled. ôBoy, you sure are anxious to get there, arenÆt you?ö
Buffy nodded earnestly. ôWe should be arriving there in ten minutes.ö
Those ten minutes were total hell to The Slayer. All she could think
about was the prophecy, and how Angel was still trapped in that house.
All the while Gayle was yammering about something. <Hmph. If this poor
woman only knew that at the end of the day, she might never see
tomorrow. If I donÆt rescue Angel in time, he will lose his soul, and
the prophecy will come true. God, how could Giles have been so wrong?>
Tears formed in her dry eyes. <I love him so much, and now I know he
loves me. I canÆt lose him now.>
Buffy was so deep in thought, that she didnÆt realize they had gotten
into town. ôWell, weÆre here,ö Gayle said cheerfully. ôBuffy? Buffy?
Are you okay, dear?ö
Buffy snapped out of her trance. ôHuh? Oh, weÆre here.ö She looked at
Gayle. ôThank you so much. This means the world to me.ö
ôNo problem. IÆm just glad I can help out. Is there any specific place
you would like me to take you?ö
Buffy thought for a moment. ôCan you take me to Sunnydale High School?ö
ôSure.ö
* * *
Five minutes later they arrived in front of the large school. Since she
broke the generator, there was no one there, but she knew that Giles
would be in the library. Buffy looked at the kind woman. ôI donÆt
have any money or something to give you.ö
ôOh donÆt worry about it. Maybe we will meet again someday and you can
buy me a cup of coffee.ö She joked.
ôSure. That would be great,ö Buffy opened the car door and got out.
ôThank you again,ö she said, turned and walked toward the front door.
She heard the car drive away. <Right. Coffee. Maybe if IÆm still
alive.>
The Slayer pulled open the heavy door and made her way to the library.
Not realizing how bad she looked, she walked into the library and saw
Giles sitting at their table, looking so worried. She could tell he
hadnÆt slept last night. ôBuffy! Your alive!ö He exclaimed, relieved.
ôOh God, you look terrible.ö he said and helped her over to a chair.
He grabbed a few paper towels and pressed them to her wrists. ôWhat
happened? Is Angel okay?ö
ôOh Giles,ö She said, and began to cry. She could no longer hold it
in. ôTonight is the full moon!ö
He looked dumbfounded. ôN..No...ItÆs on Saturday.ö
ôGiles, look at your calendar. You havenÆt changed the month on it
yet!ö
He got up and dashed to it. ôOh no,ö he whispered. The top of the
calendar said December, 1997. ôHow could I have overlooked this?ö He
turned to the young girl and tried to comfort her. ôIÆm so sorry.
Angel--is he...ö
ôI donÆtÆ know. I *sob* had *sob* to leave *sob* him.ö she managed to
say between sobs.
ôLeave him where?ö
ôWhere we were taken.ö
ôBuffy, tell me what happened.ö
She did her best to explained to him what had happened. ôSo Angel is
still in that house? We have to get him out as soon as possible.ö
ôHow Giles? There are tons of vampires swarming in it, and once the
sunsets...ö she sobbed heavily, ô...once the sun sets, they will take
his soul away.ö
ôWe wonÆt let that happen. Listen, I want to get home, clean yourself
up, and get some sleep. Hope is there, I couldnÆt let her go home.
Since your mother is out of town, I used the key you gave me to let her
in. Her parents think that she is spending the day with you.ö
ôHope--is she okay? And what about Jenny?ö
ôYes, they are both fine. Now please, listen to me once, and get home.ö
Buffy knew he was right. She hadnÆt eaten or slept, and needed a
shower. ôCall me if you find anything out.ö
ôI will.ö
