  3. SAN DIEGO, CA, Summer, 1990 <197> Xerox Desktop Software today announced 
  4. another generation of Ventura Publisher<M^><190><D> software products 
  5. that provide advanced desktop publishing features never before available 
  6. to personal computer users. The Ventura Publisher 3.0 product family 
  7. is now available for GEM, OS/2, and Microsoft Windows platforms.

  9. The new products provide users of Ventura Publisher 3.0 <197> which 
  10. mar<->ket share and industry reviews recognize as the leading MS-DOS<196>based 
  11. desktop publishing software <197> upward migration to networked and 
  12. pro<->fessional publishing capabilities. The features previously available 
  13. only with Xerox's Professional Extension and Network Server are now 
  14. available as a standard part of the new 3.0 release.

  16. The three products included in the new software family are Ventura 
  17. Publisher 3.0: GEM Edition, Ventura Publisher 3.0: Windows Edition, 
  18. and Ventura Publisher 3.0: OS/2 Edition.

  20. The new products and features are the result of extensive research 
  21. on the enhancements and capabilities most wanted by corporate and 
  22. commercial users of desk<->top publishing. <169>We now provide professional 
  23. publishing for all major IBM PC platforms,<170> said Larry Gerhard, 
  24. President of Xerox Desktop Software. <169>Our Network Server was the 
  25. first desktop publishing product to support concurrent multiple users 
  26. on a local area network. Our Professional Extension software was the 
  27. first to add a variety of advanced professional features for creating 
  28. a broad assortment of documents. By making these features available 
  29. under Microsoft Windows and OS/2, as well as GEM, we provide our users 
  30. with advanced publishing features tailored to their particular platform.

  34. The ease-of-use enhancements will help users realize full value from 
  35. the 3.0 product family in minimal time. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 
  36. adds significant features to Xerox Ventura Publisher's long document 
  37. capabilities, including enhanced automatic anchoring of illustrations 
  38. to a point in the text and automatic page and figure numbers across 
  39. chapters.

  41. For example, Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 provides more than 300 context-sensitive 
  42. help screens within the dialog boxes. Users may select preferred combinations 
  43. of pull-down and pop-up menus, and many functions are selectable either 
  44. by the mouse or by simple keyed commands. These features are designed 
  45. to reduce learning time and make desktop publishing more readily accessible 
  46. to a broader customer base.

  48. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 allows users to print in color on color 
  49. PostScript printers, or print color separations to any black and white 
  50. printer. Colors are defined by specifying their C, Y, M, and K (cyan, 
  51. yellow, magenta, and black) values.

  53. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 has enhanced image support with Tag Image 
  54. File Format (TIFF) file compatibility and gray scale image control 
  55. to allow printing of a broad range of gray tones in black-and-white 
  56. documents. Encapsulated PostScript files allow images to be imported 
  57. from sophisticated graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator.

  59. To facilitate the production of short, design-intensive documents, 
  60. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 supports more flexible use of interactive 
  61. font and kerning controls. The flexibility of these and other features 
  62. fully supports the creation of documents ranging from a single page 
  63. to hundreds of pages.
