@HEADLINE 2 = Xerox <->Announces Ventura 3.0 SAN DIEGO, CA, Summer, 1990 <197> Xerox Desktop Software today announced another generation of Ventura Publisher<190> software products that provide advanced desktop publishing features never before available to personal computer users. The Ventura Publisher 3.0 product family is now available for GEM, OS/2, and Microsoft Windows platforms. The new products provide users of Ventura Publisher 3.0 <197> which mar<->ket share and industry reviews recognize as the leading MS-DOS<196>based desktop publishing software <197> upward migration to networked and pro<->fessional publishing capabilities. The features previously available only with Xerox's Professional Extension and Network Server are now available as a standard part of the new 3.0 release. The three products included in the new software family are Ventura Publisher 3.0: GEM Edition, Ventura Publisher 3.0: Windows Edition, and Ventura Publisher 3.0: OS/2 Edition. The new products and features are the result of extensive research on the enhancements and capabilities most wanted by corporate and commercial users of desk<->top publishing. <169>We now provide professional publishing for all major IBM PC platforms,<170> said Larry Gerhard, President of Xerox Desktop Software. <169>Our Network Server was the first desktop publishing product to support concurrent multiple users on a local area network. Our Professional Extension software was the first to add a variety of advanced professional features for creating a broad assortment of documents. By making these features available under Microsoft Windows and OS/2, as well as GEM, we provide our users with advanced publishing features tailored to their particular platform. Ventura Publisher 3.0 The ease-of-use enhancements will help users realize full value from the 3.0 product family in minimal time. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 adds significant features to Xerox Ventura Publisher's long document capabilities, including enhanced automatic anchoring of illustrations to a point in the text and automatic page and figure numbers across chapters. For example, Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 provides more than 300 context-sensitive help screens within the dialog boxes. Users may select preferred combinations of pull-down and pop-up menus, and many functions are selectable either by the mouse or by simple keyed commands. These features are designed to reduce learning time and make desktop publishing more readily accessible to a broader customer base. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 allows users to print in color on color PostScript printers, or print color separations to any black and white printer. Colors are defined by specifying their C, Y, M, and K (cyan, yellow, magenta, and black) values. Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 has enhanced image support with Tag Image File Format (TIFF) file compatibility and gray scale image control to allow printing of a broad range of gray tones in black-and-white documents. Encapsulated PostScript files allow images to be imported from sophisticated graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator. To facilitate the production of short, design-intensive documents, Xerox Ventura Publisher 2.0 supports more flexible use of interactive font and kerning controls. The flexibility of these and other features fully supports the creation of documents ranging from a single page to hundreds of pages.
