  9.  AB    Gingival and periodontal involvement has been described in individuals
  10.        with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. The manifestations
  11.        often include erythematous gingivitis, necrotizing gingivitis, and
  12.        periodontal involvement characterized by rampant loss of bone and soft
  13.        tissue, resulting in recession without the formation of periodontal
  14.        pockets. We present cases of HIV-associated periodontitis (HIV-P) in
  15.        which advanced periodontal pocket formation was present. Periodontal
  16.        disease may show a broad range of severity in patients with various T4
  17.        helper cell counts.
