ABOUT
THE SPJA
The Society for the
Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) is a non-profit California Corporation
founded and administered by a volunteer staff. The purpose of the SPJA
is to popularize and educate the American public about Japanese animation
(anime) and comics (manga), as well as provide a forum, Anime Expo, to
facilitate communication between professionals and fans.
The SPJA seeks to
highlight the positive aspects of anime in the United States. Among the
ways that the SPJA promotes Japanese animation and manga is through the
SPJA Industry Awards, which seek to recognise and reward excellence in
both the Japanese and American animation and comics industries.
The SPJA also promotes
Japanese animation in the U.S. by working with the media to create magazine
and newspaper articles as well as television stories with a positive view
of Japanese animation.
Stories about the
work of the SPJA have appeared in newspapers and magazines all over the
world. Japanese magazines such as "B-Club", "Newtype, the
Moving Pictures Magazine","Animedia", and Animage"
have covered our event for many years. Domestic publications like the
Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Tribune, San Jose
Mercury News and the Village Voice have also run articles about Anime
Expo. Anime Expo has also received US-wide television coverage on the
Sci-Fi Channel.
The SPJA seeks to
provide an objective view of the Japanese animation industry through EX:
The Online World of Anime and Manga. The premier online magazine devoted
to the Japanese animation industry on both sides of the Pacific, EX has
a readership base of both fans and industry professionals spread across
five continents.
