One of the primary ways that Anime Expo promotes Japanese animation is through its film and video programming. Offering expansive viewing environments, the video and film theatres is perhaps the best way to experience the rich and dynamic nature of Japanese animation.

With multiple video theatres with large projection screens, Dolby* Pro-Logic* surround sound, anime fans at Anime Expo can experience both classic and newly released anime titles in the best way possible. Companies from both the US and Japanese animation industries showcase both their latest anime titles and have also shown pre-production/preview screeners for anime fans to enjoy.

Similiar to the video theatres is the Anime Expo 35mm film theatre. This is a rare chance for anime fans in the United States to view anime films in their original format and on the big screen. Most times, anime fans could only watch anime films when the film is sold on video tapes and watched on a television, losing much of the films impact because of the small screen sizes.
