ABBYY OFFERS NEW RETRIEVAL AND MORPHOLOGY ENGINE
FOR MULTILINGUAL APPLICATIONS
Software Developers Use Advanced Natural Language Processing Tools For Processing And Indexing Information In 31 Languages
CeBIT, Germany (March 22nd, 2001) ù ABBYY Software House
announces today a new version of ABBYY Retrieval & Morphology (ARM) Engine.
The ARM Engine is a software development kit (SDK), which allows developers to
integrate full text indexing, retrieval and linguistic technologies into their
own applications. The new version of ARM Engine with its support of 31 natural
languages is an appropriate indexing and retrieval system for the multilingual
world. This is an ideal solution for developers, creating multilingual document
processing systems.
The ARM Engine API consists of two parts:
The Fulltext Retrieval API of the ARM Engine allows developers to integrate the means
for retrieving the needed documents from masses of text information stored in various
electronic repositories: corporate information systems, CD archives or web servers into
their applications. The Engine makes the complex task of retrieval easy by creating a
compact index and using efficient search algorithms and morphologic knowledge bases of
natural languages.
The Morphology API of the ARM Engine allows developers to integrate the functions
of morphology analysis (spell checking, lemmatisation, paradigm generation) into various
systems of automatic processing of electronic text information: text search and retrieval
applications with morphology analysis, classifiers of text information (e.g. ôspamö protection).
The Engine has 32-bit COM-style API (Application Programming Interface), that can be easily
used by C/C++ and Visual Basic development environments.
The ARM Engine supports 31 languages: Armenian (Eastern), Armenian (Grabar),
Armenian (Western), Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English,
Estonian, Finnish, French, German, German (New Spelling), Greek, Hungarian, Italian,
Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian (Bokmal), Norwegian (Nynorsk), Polish, Portuguese, Russian,
Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Tatar, Turkish and Ukrainian. A feature for indexing and search
through multilingual documents (any combination of the above-indicated languages) is also
available.
The ARM Engine is a proven tool for application development. It has been integrated into established products such as: ABBYY Lingvo (an English-Russian-English electronic dictionary), ABBYY FineReader (an OCR-system) and ABBYY Internet Index Server (a web-search application, used by ABBYY corporate web-site).
Siemens Nixdorf uses the ARM Engine as a component of its ARCIS electronic archive û a complete system of archiving, information processing and record maintenance. Many companies worldwide have successfully integrated ARM technologies into their information systems. The Russian software company Optima integrated ARM technologies of text processing into its OPTiMA-WorkFlow system, considerably enhancing the systemÆs capabilities of electronic document archives processing. One of the largest Russian system integrators LANIT uses ABBYYÆs full-text search module as a part of its document management system. LanDocs. ôNezavisimaya,ö one of the most widely read Russian newspapers (with a circulation of over 100,000) uses the ARM Engine in its annual CD archive publication.
"Due to the integration of ABBYYÆs OCR, indexing and retrieval technologies into OPTiMA-WorkFlow, we faced the birth of a new full-functional system of workflow class. Now this system is able to manage the document flow of any scale for various enterprises. The synergy effect of integration developed into superior quality of this new solution,ö said Efim Starostin, Head of IT, Optima.
The ABBYY Retrieval and Morphology engine is available directly from ABBYY Europe. For further information or prices of the ARM Engine and licences please visit our website at
