ABBYY Enterprise Forms offers New Freedom

CeBIT, Germany. (March 22, 2001) ¡ ABBYY Software House, developer of FineReader OCR system and linguistic software, announces the release of its new bulk input forms solution û ABBYY Enterprise Forms. This solution allows ABBYYÆs partners and clients to install a system for bulk form input involving single and multi-page forms entirely on their own thus gaining independence from software developer.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms is based on ABBYY FineReader 4.0 Handprint Forms, a system already in use by many international organisations and companies, including the Russian Ministry of Taxes and Duties, Van Beijnum (Holland), Colaroid Informatique (France) and others.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms is a distributed client-server application made up of client workstations (scanning and registration station, verification, administration, etc.), automatic recognition stations and a server that ensures the synchronisation of all the system components. The server application uses a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and Microsoft Transaction Server 2.0. The systemÆs architecture allows increased throughput in proportion to the number of operatorÆs workstations and automatic stations within the company.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms may be tuned and administered by the clients IT-specialist, so the user does not need to contact the developer during the installation and reinstallation. A variety of setting means, ensuring the customized turning is available ù everything from a choice of validation rules to the way complex hierarchic multi-page forms are processed. The powerful system administration tools provide the systemÆs administrator with full statistical data about the current state of the system, while the systemÆs architecture can easily change an assigned task to different workstations.

ABBYY FineReader Handprint Forms recognises handprinted, typewritten, machine-printed texts, checkmarks and barcodes on both scanned and faxed images. After processing each form automatically, FineReader Handprint Forms highlights uncertain and unrecognised characters, so that the operator would easily notice these characters and correct them if necessary. Since FineReader Handprint Forms processes all the information automatically, operators only need a few seconds to check all the necessary characters instead of spending many minutes typing in the forms manually. In addition, FineReader Handprint Forms features automatic checking of the recognised information against databases, dictionaries, validation rules, etc.. The user can also create customised validation rules.

ABBYY FineReader Handprint Forms can process many types of forms, even those not initially intended for machine-reading. It makes less than five mistakes per 1,000 handprinted characters (forms neatly filled in, without corrections) which is five times less than a professional typist makes at the beginning of the working day, and ten times less than the same typist makes at the end of the working day.
