ABBYY RELEASES A NEW STANDARD FORM INPUT SOLUTION ENABLING BUSINESSES TO SOLVE BULK DOCUMENT INPUT TASKS

ABBYY Enterprise Forms Offer New Freedom

Las Vegas, NV (November 13, 2000) ¡ ABBYY Software House, developer of FineReader OCR system and linguistic software, announced the release of its new standard form input solution û ABBYY Enterprise Forms. This solution allows ABBYYÆs partners and clients to install systems of bulk input involving single and multi-page forms entirely on their own and gaining independence from the software developer.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms is based on ABBYY FineReader 4.0 Handprint Forms, a system already in use by many international organizations and enterprises, including the Russian Ministry of Taxes and Duties, the Russian Ministry of Education, Modern Business Technologies company, ARENA project in Poland and others.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms is a distributed client-server application made up of client workstations (scanning and registration station, verification, administration, etc.), automatic recognition stations and a server that ensures the synchronization of all the system components. The server application uses a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and Microsoft Transaction Server 2.0. The systemÆs architecture allows increased throughput in proportion to the number of operatorÆs workstations and automatic stations within the enterprise.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms may be easily tuned and administered by the clients IT-specialist, so the user does not need to contact the developer during the installation and reinstallation. A great number of set-up varieties are possible ù everything from a choice of validation rules to the way complex hierarchic multi-page forms are processed. The powerful system administration tools provide the systemÆs administrator with full statistical data about the current state of the system, while the systemÆs architecture can easily change an assigned task to different workstations.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms is more than a standard solution for form input. It is also a flexible system ù its functionality can be expanded to meet the needs of each individual client effectively. Each client can save significant time and money and, at the same time, operate independent of the software developer. It is a new, efficient product, designed to bring business people a new degree of freedom.

ABBYY Enterprise Forms offer these benefits:

  • High document processing speed is gained through the distribution of tasks over network.
  • A special system of unauthorized access protection and userÆs permission control guarantees the data security
  • The built-in language of batch structure description that lets you tune the system to recognize any form you need in a couple of minutes allows the system to process complex multi-page forms completely automatically.
  • The use of remote scanning workstations and centralized data processing system reduces the overall cost of data input.
  • Powerful tools control both the overall system and specific operatorÆs productivity help to increase the systemÆs efficiency.
  • Various system monitoring tools allow you to optimize the form processing system

ôNow, the customer of our form input system is completely independent from us, the developers. ABBYY Enterprise Forms is easy to install and administer, any IT-manager of our client and partner is not going to have any problems at all. It also means that the overall cost of implementing our form input system is drastically reduced,ö stated Aram Pakhchanian, Vice President, Corporate Projects, ABBYY.

FineReader Handprint recognize handprinted, typewritten, machine-printed texts, checkmarks and barcodes on both scanned and faxed images. After processing each form automatically, FineReader Handprint highlights uncertain and unrecognized characters, so that the operator would easily notice these characters and correct them if necessary. Since FineReader Handprint processes all the information automatically, operators only need a few seconds to check all the necessary characters instead of spending many minutes typing forms manually. In addition, FineReader Handprint features automatic checking of the recognized information against databases, dictionaries, validation rules, etc. The user can also create custom validation rules.

FineReader can process many types of forms, even those not initially intended for machine-reading. It makes less than five mistakes per 1,000 handprinted characters (forms neatly filled in, without corrections) which is five times less than a professional typist makes at the beginning of the working day, and ten times less than the same typist makes at the end of the working day.
