ABBYY ANNOUNCES ABBYY RETRIEVAL&MORPHOLOGY ENGINE

ABBYY Retrieval & Morphology Engine indexes 7 Mb of text in one minute.

Las Vegas, COMDEX, November 15, 1999 ù ABBYY Software House (www.abbyy.com) announces the launch of ABBYY Retrieval & Morphology (ARM) Engine û Software Development Kit, which allows developers to integrate ABBYY's advanced full text index, retrieval and linguistic technologies into local or client-server applications via 32-bit COM (Component Object Model) Application Programming Interface (API).

Once the ARM Engine has been integrated into an application, users can quickly and efficiently retrieve documents stored in electronic repositories such as corporate information systems, CD archives or WEB servers. The Engine also provides users with morphology analysis features such as: spell checking, lemmatization (generation of the primary form of the word), paradigm generation (generation of all wordforms) and the creation of user dictionaries.

The ARM Engine creates a compact index file (about 30% of the original size) to provide high speed indexing, and can process 7Mb of mono-language text per minute. In addition, the ARM Engine supports 22 languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch (Belgian, Standard), English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, German (new spelling), Greek, Italian, Norwegian (Bokmal), Norwegian (Nynorsk), Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian, Standard), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tartar (in a special delivery), Turkish, and Ukrainian.

The ARM Engine is a proven tool for application development. It has been integrated into established products, such as: ABBYY Lingvo (an English-Russian-English electronic dictionary), ABBYY FineReader (an OCR-system), and ABBYY Internet Index Server (a web-search application, used by ABBYY corporate web-site).

Many companies worldwide have successfully integrated ARM technologies into their information systems. For example, ôNezavisimayaö Newspaper, one of the most widely-read Russian newspapers (with a total circulation of over 100,000) uses the ARM Engine in its annual publication CD archive. Siemens Nixdorf uses the ARM Engine as a component of their ARCIS electronic archive û a complete system of archiving, information processing and record maintenance.

"We have worked with ABBYY for five years, and we have been partners for two years," said Mark Zheleznyak, Director of Nezavisimaya Newspaper Computer Center. "We were impressed with the efficiency of ABBYY Retireval&Morphology technology, and chose it to build the electronic archive of Nezavisimaya Newspaper."
ABBYY Retrieval & Morphology Engine is available immediately for C++, Visual Basic and Delphi development environments and priced at $890 USD. The price includes three developerÆs licenses. For more product information, visit ABBYYÆs website at http://www.abbyy.com/products/arme/index.htm.
