PIOS ONE: The Offer for Developers

Developers, who want to write software or design hardware add-ons on a PowerPC platform, currently are limited to rather expensive hardware. The PIOS ONE is an approach to offer here at least a lower entry level, without keeping the buyer from upgrading later to workstation level.

The hardware and the bundled software of PIOS ONE offer everything, which makes a modern development system. To allow a head start for the external developers, company PIOS has a special offer for them: A limited Null Series will be produced, orders can already be placed.

For this, it's a prerequisite to register with PIOS as a developer. The applicant should be able to provide references to existing products or an education qualification in this field. Applicants who are already registered as developers with Be or proDAD, can list this as a reference.

Models

The Null Series of PIOS ONE is identical to the first working prototypes and also very similar to the later shipping transAM. Thus the final series will be subject to change compared to this prototype stadium. Of course registered developers will be notified of any such changes as early as possible.

For the start there are two models, a "Barebone" with 133 MHz clock frequency and a fully configured model with 200 MHz.

  • In the Barebone there is provided no graphics card or drive at all, even no floppy, no keyboard nor mouse, 8 MB RAM, and 512 KB cache. The PPC 603e processor is clocked at 133 MHz.
  • The Full Version comes with a PCI graphics card, 1.44 MB floppy, a 8x CD-ROM, 16 MB RAM, 512 KB cache RAM, a 2.5 GB harddisk, keyboard and mouse. The PPC 603p processor is clocked at 200 MHz.
Thus on one side the developers on low budget and on the other side the power users with higher demands are served.

Special feature:
All the devices of the Null Serie will be hand signed by Dave Haynie!
