Anon., Portret trumienny Adama Wezyka [Funeral Portrait of Adam Wezyk], ca. 1668

As far as I know funeral portraits were painted when the model was dead; understandable superstition did not allow them to be made while the deceased was still alive. But one look at these portraits is enough to realize that the painters must have been full of spirit, appreciating on first sight what the model looked like in his lifetime, what was his character, his habits and his ambitions.
