Wladyslaw Podkowinski, Ulica Nowy Swiat w Warszawie w letni dzien [Nowy Swiat Street in Warsaw on a Summer's Day], 1892

For a long time it has been a source of amazement to me that this incredible painting, absolutely unusual in Polish art, was not signed by young Monet himself!

Podkowinski had all the qualifications to be an impressionist. Polish art suffered a great loss when this really talented painter lost himself among graveyard ghosts and passionate ecstasies, and went with them to his doom as a painter.
