photo In the region Beyond the Mediterranean coast, there are lakes and rivers ideal for windsurfing. Not only is is far less crowded during the summer, but the lack of large waves makes the water conditions better for the non-expert windsurfers. The setting for inland windsurfing is also beautiful, with green forested hills surrounding the blue water of the lakes.

Lac de St. Cassien.
Located at the northeastern edge of the Var, between Grasse and Fayence, about 10 km of lake stretches out through the hills. The water is open enough for good winds, and the different arms of the lake give a more varied and interesting setting than sailing back and forth along a beach.

Lac de Castillon.
This lake stretches about 15 km, from St. André-les-Alpes in the north to the southern end only a few km above Castellane.

Lac de Serre-Ponçon.
This lake is formed by a dam (the Barrage de Serre-Ponçon) on the Durance river, at the northern edge of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the southern edge of the Haute-Alpes.
