Sleepy Hollow

Ichabod Crane, a big city investigator from New York City, is sent to a small village to investigate a series of deaths where the victims were found decapitated in the middle of the forest with their heads missing. Starring Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci and Christopher Walken. Directed by Tim Burton and based on the story by Washington Irving.

Paul:

I really liked this movie a lot because of the combination of mystery and action, and a big heaping spoonful of good old fashioned gore and brutuality.

The thing I liked the most was the story or plot. I'm not totally sure if it follows the book exactly, which doesn't usually happen when books get turned into movies. But for those of you who have read the book can judge for yourself. This movie version was definitely more exciting than anything I could have anticipated.

I really didn't like the way some of the characters behaved in the movie. Most of them seemed foolish or stupid and didn't really act on their instincts. Their behavior seemed to premeditated to be realistic.

Overall, it was very good and if it doesn't stay in the theaters as long as "The Sixth Sense" did, someone's gonna get a "headless horseman" in their bed tomorrow morning.

Danny:

The only movie version of Irving's "Sleepy Hollow" that I remember was the Disney cartoon that ends much more tragically than Burton's new version. So when I forced to read the actual text in high school, Disney didn't have anywhere the excitement Irving had. I wish Burton was making this version when I was in high school.

It's one non stop thrill ride full of action and intrigue with a story that's familiar and easy to believe. The supernatural tension of the film really gives a spooky mood that a cartoon could never provide, and Burton's wild imagination makes it all the more enjoyable.

However, it went way way way too overboard on the gore. There was blood and rolling heads practically in every other scene. Of course, you can't really blame Burton or the screenwriters for this since we are talking about a ghost who whacks his victim's heads off with a heated sword.

But if you're a horror movie fan who can't sit still during really scary movies, "Sleepy Hollow" is a fun breath of fog riddled air.

Toy Story 2

Everyone's favorite computer generated playthings, Woody and Buzz, are back in this animated sequel. This time, Woody gets kidnapped by a greedy toy dealer and soon realizes he is a rare item worth a ton of money. Buzz and the gang go on a city wide adventure to rescue their friend. Voices provided by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Joan Cusack and Kelsey Grammer. Directed by John Lassiter..

Paul:

Surprisingly, it was a very fun and inventive movie for children that I didn't mind sitting through. It was mostly fun because it feeds off the first movie (which was also great) that introduces you to both old and new characters who were just as funny and clever.

The way everything was set up was really great. Woody gets kidnapped and his friend, Buzz Lightyear, is obligated to help him as a way to repay the debt he made during the first film. I also liked the way they bring down the spirit of the toy dealer in the end of the movie, but I won't give too much away.

I absolutely hated the way the new Buzz Lightyear acted as a kind of pre-pubescent Luke Skywalker. You know what I'm talking about. The joke about the "I'm am your father" bit that won't go away since Lucas decided to do another Star Wars that also won't go away.

This was a good movie that I can't wait to come out on video.

Danny:

All the Pixar movies have been comic gems from Toy Story to A Bug's Life. Ok, those are the only two Pixar movies, but they were both great. Now, they've managed to top themselves a third time with this wonderful flick.

The great thing about this one, just like the other's, is that its fun for both children and adults. The jokes don't play down to children, so adults can have fun, and the action doesn't go overboard or get too violent, so adults can sleep at night. Some of the jokes get old but all of them are clever and irreverent.

The animation, of course, is top notch and only improves as Pixar makes more and more movies. In this sequel, the humans play a bigger role in the plot and the rendering of the characters is next to flawless. Pixar may well be on their way to creating a whole new procedure in a matter of years.

Basically, if you're tired of going to see "Poke'mon: The First Movie" and you're kids are tired of seeing "The World is Not Enough," it's time you saw something you will both enjoy and "Toy Story 2" is it.

Paul's Video Pick
(Definitely Not Danny's)

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie - The gang from one of cable's biggest prime-time shows is now on their own motion picture. Part of an experiment for worldwide domination, a mad scientist has sent Mike Nelson and his two robotic friends, Crow and Tom Servo, into space forcing them to watch the cheezy sci-fi epic "This Island Earth." It was definitely geared towards the cult fans of the TV show but anyone with a sense of humor about movies will find it hilarious.

Dick - Even though the title sounds like it's another type of movie, "Dick" is actually a brilliant spoof of the Watergate Scandal back in the 70's when two teenage girls accidentally become the prime source of information in one of the biggest coverups in American history. Unlike other teenage parodies, it's smart, funny and never plays down to the audience.
