Victor 883 Spin Controller and Thor 883 Spin Controller were developed for Robot Weapons.  The type of Spin Controllers are the Victor 883 SC (90A) or Thor 883 SC (150A) speed controller which are programmed to function as a single direction spinning-mass controller.  Both the forward and reverse components on a normal Victor are dedicated to a single direction.

The speed controller can be directly driven from any IFI RC unit; the Mini RC, the Isaac16 Robot Controller, or the FRC Robot Controller.   We recommend using a PWM Signal Driver if you are not using an IFI RC unit.

  • 90A / 150A Continuous
  • Only weighs 4 oz.
  • Ideal for High Current Drive Motors
  • Safely handles high continuous current draws and extreme current surges.
  • Integral cooling fan ensures cool FET junction temperatures.
  • The low voltage drop ensures the motor receives maximum power.

How it Works

  1. User controlled soft start-up helps conserve battery capacity since a motor is basically stalled at startup.

  2. User controlled variable forward speed.  Spinning at a variable rate is important if your robot is out of balance or unstable at full speed.

  3. The final and most important benefit is a special ramp down feature that takes over if you loose your control signal.  When the signal is lost, or you turn off your transmitter, the controller softly ramps the dynamic braking from 0% to 100% over a ten second time period, then remains at 100% braking indefinitely (or until the control signal returns).  This allows designers to make their inertia devices or spin‑bots spin faster and more freely than previously possible.  The automatic proportional braking feature enables the robot to meet most spin down time rules during inspection and competition.

  4. The Victor/Thor SC's fail-safe even works if input power is lost.  Regeneration is used to 'shunt brake' the motor.

Notes

General Notes:

  1. The red wire (center pin) on the PWM cable connected to the Victor is an open circuit. There is no reason to disconnect this wire in the cable. The Victor does not source or draw power on this line.
  2. Do not reverse the input polarity on a Victor. Doing this will permanently damage the unit and void the warranty.

Signal Driver Notes:

  1. Use a PWM Signal Driver to ensure the signal from your receiver is Victor compatible.
  2. A PWM Signal Driver is not needed with IFI Control Systems, some receivers, and some mixers.

Fan Notes:

  1. The Victor comes with a cooling fan attached to the top of the unit.
  2. The 24V Victor operates over a 6V30V range, however, the fan's voltage range is smaller; 16-30 Volts.
  3. You can purchase a optional 12 V fan, and then replace the 24 fan supplied with the Victor.
