  15. NETWORK INFORMATION CENTER SCHEDULE FOR NETWORK USERS

  17.    The Network Information Center has planned to provide service for
  18.    network users on a regular basis Monday through Friday.
  19.  
  20.    This service will begin on Monday, October 4, 1971.
  21.  
  22.    The daily schedule for network users will be:
  23.  
  24.       (times are Pacific Daylight / Pacific Standard Time)
  25.  
  26.       0500 to 1200      system available
  27.                         except Tuesday, when hours are 0800 to 1200
  28.  
  29.       1200 to 1300      system not available
  30.  
  31.       1300 to 1800      system available
  32.  
  33.       1800 to 2200      system available on an irregular basis
  34.  
  35.       2200 to 0500      system not available
  36.  
  37.    This schedule is temporary and subject to change.
  38.  
  39.    The system is available on an irregular basis on weekends.
  40.  
  41.    Those periods marked as available on an irregular basis are generally
  42.    devoted to system development.  Any user may be asked to log off on
  43.    short notice.

  45. ADDITIONAL NOTES
  46.  
  47.    As soon as the user's Telnet connection is established to the NIC,
  48.    the system herald will be printed, followed immediately by a brief
  49.    (possibly null) message to network users.  This message will contain
  50.    any items that are of particular interest to network users.

  60.    In order to log in:
  61.  
  62.       use your site ident as the user name
  63.  
  64.       the password is ARPA
  65.  
  66.       use an account number consisting of site ident-your last name
  67.  
  68.          for example, if we receive the string
  69.                 log ucla-nmc arpa ucla-postel
  70.          the user will be logged in as John Postel from UCLA
  71.  
  72.    After logging in, the (possibly null) system message common to all
  73.    logins will be printed.
  74.  
  75.    If you experience any trouble getting into the NIC, call us via the
  76.    telephone numbers listed below.  If the number is not listed as a
  77.    direct dial, you must contact your operator and ask for the appro-
  78.    priate Zenith or Enterprise number.  If the operator is unfamiliar
  79.    with the use of Enterprise or Zenith numbers, ask to speak to the
  80.    supervisor.
