Newfire TORCH v1.1
Welcome to Newfire TORCH--A real-time 3D software game engine. This CD contains
a Torch installer and two 3D Demo files created by 3DFX InteractiveTM.
In this version of Torch, we've done lots of work to support 3DFX Interactive's(TM)
newest 3D acceleration chipset--Voodoo2(TM). Included among the supported features are:
-Support for Multiple Texture Memory Units
-Support for 4MB of Texture Memory
-Support for Advanced Transparency
-Support for Multiple 8-Bit Paletted Textures
-Support for Multiple Colored Dynamic Lights
If you haven't installed Torch yet
To install Torch on Windows95 and WindowsNT:
1. Insert the CD-ROM in your computer and the Installer will begin automatically.
If you prefer, you can go to the CD's root drive by inserting the CD-ROM into
your computer and right-clicking on the CD icon. Then, choose Explore and locate
the setup.exe file. Double-click on this file to begin the install process.
2. Once you've started the Installation process, simply follow the directions.
You will have the option to install Torch, all necessary 3rd party files, and the
demo gamelets (NOTE: You must select the install Sample Content option, in the
Torch installer, for the links above to work). At the end of the installation,
you will be asked to restart your computer to complete the installation.
3. When you have restarted your computer, you are ready to run Torch
4. To test your Torch installation, go to the Programs submenu, located in the
Windows Start menu, and locate Newfire Torch. Click on the Torch plug-in test icon.
5. The first time you run Torch (plug-in or standalone), the Renderer Options
dialog box appears, from which you should select the 3Dfx Rasterizer option.
6. IMPORTANT: For WindowsNT 4.0 users: Please make sure that Microsoft's
Service Pack 3 for NT (available from www.microsoft.com) is installed. This
ensures that you have Direct Input configured correctly.
To Play 3DFX Demo Files:
1) Go to the Programs submenu, located in the Windows Start menu, and locate
Newfire Torch. Click on the "Demos" icon to load a page with links to the Demos.
2) Click on the links to load either the Voodoo City or Voodoo Downtown demos.
The following additional information can be found in GettingStarted.htm:
