LEGENDS OF MURDER
Volume 2: Grey Haven
by
James Schmalz
Don't read this whole file at once or you'll spoil the game for
yourself. Only read enough hints to get beyond the place where you
are stuck.
HINTS TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE
-------------------------
The player must first locate the master wizard and discuss the
situation with him. This wizard, Baswik, is located in the last room
at the Inn which lies to the left as you start the game.
To get in the secret room in the Inn you must search for the trap
door in the lower right stall of the horse shed.
The player will then explore the apprentice houses. To enter the
houses, you need the medallion that Baswik gives.
In one of the houses you receive a clue as to how to enter the
school. To enter the school you must use your medallion at the door.
The school is the building surrounded by a wall.
At the school you will find the skeleton of a dragon, kill it and
you will be able to read the message in its mouth. This message tells
you to search the middle of the empty bookshelf in the library.
There you find a piece of paper with a combination on it. This
combination will open the chest in the room where the dragon skeleton
is.
In the chest you will find some coins. These must be used to pay
the barkeep at the Inn. He will tell you which grave to dig up (one
at the top right of the graveyard).
Before you can get to the graveyard you must tell the librarian
where you want to go (graveyard or cemetery). He will tell you to go
the round room with no doors. (Seen to the left of the room with the
dragon skeleton in it.)
To get into this room you must use your apprentice medallion at the
mirror in the room with the dragon skeleton and once in the round room
you will search to learn a spell to enter the graveyard.
Once you are able to get into the graveyard you can go to the old
man's home and in his outhouse there is a shovel. Use this to dig up
the grave that the barkeep told you about (top right) and after
killing the bone golem you will find a map. Use the map and it will
enlarge for you. If you search where the x is shown on the map you
will find the entrance to the caves.
In the caves you will first come to the gate. You must use a whip
here. Once past the gate you will find a chest which contains two
sets of coins. One of these will buy a broad sword or a long sword
and the other will buy a CROSS or a STAKE from the STEEL SHOP, just
north of the Inn.
The weapon can be used to cut through the thorns just to the right
of where the game starts and the cross/stake will allow your to pass
the vampire villagers in the caverns. Once you pass the vampire
villagers you will use the quartz block to enter the secret chamber.
There you will fight Jhora, the murderer and vampire.
TO FINISH THE GAME
------------------
To actually finish the game you will need two very important things:
1. The cross/stake.
You must realize that there are vampires involved and that the
murderer was a vampire. When you know this from the various
clues spread about the game you must then use a coin to buy a
stake or a cross. I thought it seemed only natural that if you
knew you were facing a vampire that you might want a cross or a
stake to kill it with. So, only once you have figured this out
will you be able to finish the game.
2. Knowing the murderer is JHORA.
It is possible to deduce that it was Jhora if you have all the
clues. In the final fight, use must use the spell KILL and
Jhora's name. That is the only way you will stand a chance of
killing him. Well, there is a very, very, very ,very remote
change of killing him with out the spell.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
--------------------
On the night of the murder, there were four people studying in the
school. Nobody left the main doors of the study room, but someone
could have used the washroom. Jhora did, and changed, as a vampire
does, into a bat and flew to Eryl's home. Jhora entered Eryl's house
and knocked at Jhora's bedroom door.z Once Eryl knew it was not one of
the persons he suspected as being a vampire and the killer of four
villagers, he let Jhora in. Jhora then stabbed him in the back as he
turned to get his books. The reason that Jhora killed him is that
Eryl was suspicious about the missing villagers and was very close to
learning about Jhora. Eryl knew there was a vampire involved and the
location of the caves.
Jhora is a vampire who covers up his fear of light by saying he
studies all day. He comes out only after dusk. His house is dark and
fairly unused. He has tunnels which lead from the School to his
caverns. He has made four of the villagers into vampires and has also
been travelling to a nearby island to find more victims since he has
created so much fear in Grey Haven.
