When Singapore was surrendered to the Japanese on 15th February 1942, the people of Singapore did not give up. The British had managed to organize a clandestine network of resistance forces drawn from the evacuating locals as well as British expatriates. Some were from the remnants of the Dalforce that fought so bravely at the Bukit Timah battle. Others were recruited from the locals who were fleeing from Japanese persecutions. Meanwhile, pro-Communist elements of the local defense force were not disbanded after the British had surrendered. Instead they operated as the Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA) which functioned as a guerrilla resistance force for the duration of the Japanese Occupation. Colonel Lim Bo Seng, who was regional head of the Force 136 team,was caught, tortured and killed when he returned to Malaya to coordinate the struggle against the Japanese. ^^^
