The Allied troops had to suffer the indignity of being incarcerated by the Japanese victors. The Allied POWs were ruled by fear. Veterans of war who were POWs under the Japanese in Singapore would remember the acts of brutality that surfaced when things did not go the way the Japanese desired. POWs were tortured, killed in the Selarang Barracks and Double Tenth incidents and were utilized as a free source of labour for the Japanese Imperial Army. The indomitable spirit of the conquered was reflected in the social activities that thrived in Changi Prison where concerts and boxing tournaments were organized. ^^^
