OCR: EXCAVATION NOTES FOR HERRERASAURUS A DINOSAUR THAT LIVED 228 MYA (MILLION YEARS AGO) HERRERASAURUS : MISSING BONES Skull Humerus and Scapula Cervical Vertebra Tibia Radius and Ulna Read the following description carefully to help you to find Herrerasaurus' missing bones. Use the SCAN button to date the bones that you find buried in the three tunnels. Compare the date of the bones that you find with the date of the dinosaur bones that you are looking for. Herrerasaurus was a bipedal (two-legged) carnivore (flesh-eater) that lived 228 MYA (million years ago), during the Triassic Period. It had a powerful, flexible neck, and a long, narrow skull with small nasal cavities. The rather short, slender arms had three-fingered hands with sharp, curved claws for grasping prey. This lizard-hipped dinosaur possessed long agile legs which had sturdy powerful thighs and long, slender shins. The small hallux (first toe) pointed backward, and the foot had slim metatarsals (upper foot bones). Herrerasaurus' long, powerful tail was used as a counterbalance to the weight of its body. DINOSAUR FACTS Dinosaurs lived on Earth within the following three time periods: TRIASSIC PERIOD 248-208 MYA (million years ago) JURASSIC PERIOD 208-144 MYA (million years ago) CRETACEOUS PERIOD 144-65 MYA (million years ago) Compare these typical dinosaur features with the bones that you find in the Dinosaur Excavation Site.
