OCR: EXCAVATION NOTES FOR HETERODONTOSAURUS A DINOSAUR THAT LIVED 205 MYA (MILLION YEARS AGO) HETERODONTOSAURUS : MISSING BON ES Cheek Hip bones Tooth Caudal Vertebra Canine Tooth Tibia and Fibula Radius and Ulna Read the following description carefully to help you to find Heterodontosaurus' missing bones. Use the SCAN button to date the bones that you find buried in the three tunnels. Compare the date of the bones that you find with the date of the dinosaur bones that you are looking for. Heterodontosaurus was a small herbivore (plant-eater) that probably sprinted on its hind legs, but may have walked on all four limbs at other times. It lived approximately 205 MYA (million years ago), during the Jurassic Period. This turkey-sized dinosaur had three different types of teeth: sharp upper front teeth; short, caninelike fangs, or tusks; and high-crowned, chisel-like cheek teeth for grinding. The fused bones of the lower-leg, ankle, and upper foot of this ornithischian ("bird-hipped") dinosaur were among its many birdlike features. The legs were more than one-third longer than the sturdy arms, which bore five-fingered, grasping hands. Long chevrons (downward-projecting bones) on the caudal vertebrae (tailbones) strengthened the highly flexible tail. DINOSAUR FACTS Dinosaurs lived on Earth within the following three time periods: TRIASSIC PERIOD 248-208 MYA (million years ago) JURASSIC PERIOD 208-144 MYA (million years ago) CRETACEOUS PERIOD 144-65 MYA (million years ago) Compare these typical dinosaur features with the bones that you find in the Dinosaur Excavation Site.
