  4. INSTRUCTIONS

  6. WINDOWS 95/98/2000 and later
  7.  
  8. To view this program contents simply:
  9.  
  10. * Insert CD in Drive.
  11.  
  12. * The program automatically starts.
  13.  
  14. If you have "Autorun" disabled or wish to start the program 
  15. manually:
  16.  
  17. * Insert CD in drive.
  18.  
  19. * Select "Run" from the "Start" menu. Type in "D:BEGIN.EXE".
  20. Omit quotes and replace the letter "D" with the appropriate
  21. letter for your CD drive (D is the most common).  Click "OK".
  22.  
  23. All software installation and launching is done through this
  24. "BEGIN" menu. Follow the on-screen directions.

  26. IMAGE BROWSER USE
  27.  
  28. The browser (Extensis Portfolio) is a program that allows you 
  29. to browse the catalog of images at your own pace, view them 
  30. full screen, and search image captions by feature or place 
  31. name. This software does not need to be installed onto your 
  32. computer. The Image Browser contains other features which you 
  33. may discover on your own or by clicking on the "Help" menu in 
  34. the program.

  36. * From the Main Menu, click on the "Image Browser" button to
  37. launch the browser.

  39. View Images Full Screen
  40.  
  41. * Left double-click on any thumbnail to view image full screen.
  42.  
  43. Play QuickTime Movies
  44.  
  45. This CD contains QuickTime video clips.  The thumbnails for the
  46. video clips are located at the end of the Image Browser catalog
  47. and have the word VIDEO in large letters.
  48.  
  49. * Left double-click on any video thumbnail to play the video clip.
  50.  
  51. Find/Search Captions in the Catalog
  52.  
  53. * Captions for each image are stored in the "description" field.
  54.  
  55. * To search captions, click on the "Magnifying Glass" button in 
  56. the tool bar. In the "Find" dialog box, type a word or words in 
  57. the search field (i.e. "Rushmore", or "blast") and click on 
  58. the "Find" button.
  59.  
  60. *To find all the images again, click on the "Magnifying Glass"
  61. button in tool bar, then click on "Find All" in the "Find"
  62. dialog box.

  64. Slide Show
  65.  
  66. The Image Browser allows you to view an on-screen slide show.
  67.  
  68. * Click on "Catalog" from the menu and choose "Slideshow" to 
  69. begin the slide show.
  70. * The bottom of the screen contains controls for the slide 
  71. show.  Hitting "ESC" or the "square" stop button will exit 
  72. the slide show.

  74. Catalog Views

  76. There are 3 different views in the image catalog.  The view that
  77. first appears when you open the catalog is called the "Record"
  78. view.  You may switch to the "Thumbnail" view or the "List" view
  79. by clicking on one of the three view buttons on the tool bar.

  81. PERFORMANCE TIPS

  84. The Image Browser's "Help" feature is optimized to use 
  85. Microsoft Explorer.  It also works with Netscape Communicator, 
  86. but runs slower.

  88. Monitor Settings
  89. The image catalog is best viewed with a monitor resolution 
  90. setting of 800 x 600 or higher.

  92. TO INSTALL SCREEN SAVER
  93.  
  94. * From the Main Menu click on the "Install Screen Saver"
  95. button.

  97. To INSTALL QUICKTIME
  98.  
  99. Apple's QuickTime software is required for playback of narrated
  100. video clips in the browser.

  102. * If you do not already have QuickTime installed, click on the
  103. "Install QuickTime" button from the Main Menu and follow the
  104. on-screen instructions.

  106. INTERNET CONNECTION
  107.  
  108. * On the Main Menu, click on the "Internet Resources" button to
  109. connect to additional information that compliments the CD.
  110.  
  111. * The "Extensis" website (www.extensis.com) may be reached by
  112. clicking on the internet address in the "Internet Resources"
  113. menu. It is full of great user tips, free upgrades and
  114. trouble-shooting tips for the browser (Extensis Portfolio
  115. Browser).

  117. WALLPAPER (Win 95/98 only)
  118.  
  119. Launch the Image Browser. Select an image. Go to the "Item" 
  120. menu and choose "Edit Orginal".  You will need to choose an 
  121. application to open the image. MSPAINT is a standard image
  122. viewer for WINDOWS 95/98, but any image or publishing
  123. program will recognize the image. To use MSPAINT, choose 
  124. "C:\Program Files\Accessories\MSPAINT.EXE". Once inside MSPAINT, 
  125. save the image as a "BMP" inside the "C:\WINDOWS" directory. 
  126. Open the "Control Panel" window and double click on the 
  127. "Display" icon. Click on the "Background" tab. Select the 
  128. image you would like, and click the "Apply" button.

  130. IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

  132. * Images are in TIF format for your convenience.  They may be
  133. used in any image or publishing program that can recognize TIF 
  134. images.
  135.  
  136. * Images are located in the "Images" folder.
