Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse & The Black Hills Picture CD INSTRUCTIONS WINDOWS 95/98/2000 and later To view this program contents simply: * Insert CD in Drive. * The program automatically starts. If you have "Autorun" disabled or wish to start the program manually: * Insert CD in drive. * Select "Run" from the "Start" menu. Type in "D:BEGIN.EXE". Omit quotes and replace the letter "D" with the appropriate letter for your CD drive (D is the most common). Click "OK". All software installation and launching is done through this "BEGIN" menu. Follow the on-screen directions. IMAGE BROWSER USE The browser (Extensis Portfolio) is a program that allows you to browse the catalog of images at your own pace, view them full screen, and search image captions by feature or place name. This software does not need to be installed onto your computer. The Image Browser contains other features which you may discover on your own or by clicking on the "Help" menu in the program. * From the Main Menu, click on the "Image Browser" button to launch the browser. View Images Full Screen * Left double-click on any thumbnail to view image full screen. Play QuickTime Movies This CD contains QuickTime video clips. The thumbnails for the video clips are located at the end of the Image Browser catalog and have the word VIDEO in large letters. * Left double-click on any video thumbnail to play the video clip. Find/Search Captions in the Catalog * Captions for each image are stored in the "description" field. * To search captions, click on the "Magnifying Glass" button in the tool bar. In the "Find" dialog box, type a word or words in the search field (i.e. "Rushmore", or "blast") and click on the "Find" button. *To find all the images again, click on the "Magnifying Glass" button in tool bar, then click on "Find All" in the "Find" dialog box. Slide Show The Image Browser allows you to view an on-screen slide show. * Click on "Catalog" from the menu and choose "Slideshow" to begin the slide show. * The bottom of the screen contains controls for the slide show. Hitting "ESC" or the "square" stop button will exit the slide show. Catalog Views There are 3 different views in the image catalog. The view that first appears when you open the catalog is called the "Record" view. You may switch to the "Thumbnail" view or the "List" view by clicking on one of the three view buttons on the tool bar. PERFORMANCE TIPS Help The Image Browser's "Help" feature is optimized to use Microsoft Explorer. It also works with Netscape Communicator, but runs slower. Monitor Settings The image catalog is best viewed with a monitor resolution setting of 800 x 600 or higher. TO INSTALL SCREEN SAVER * From the Main Menu click on the "Install Screen Saver" button. To INSTALL QUICKTIME Apple's QuickTime software is required for playback of narrated video clips in the browser. * If you do not already have QuickTime installed, click on the "Install QuickTime" button from the Main Menu and follow the on-screen instructions. INTERNET CONNECTION * On the Main Menu, click on the "Internet Resources" button to connect to additional information that compliments the CD. * The "Extensis" website (www.extensis.com) may be reached by clicking on the internet address in the "Internet Resources" menu. It is full of great user tips, free upgrades and trouble-shooting tips for the browser (Extensis Portfolio Browser). WALLPAPER (Win 95/98 only) Launch the Image Browser. Select an image. Go to the "Item" menu and choose "Edit Orginal". You will need to choose an application to open the image. MSPAINT is a standard image viewer for WINDOWS 95/98, but any image or publishing program will recognize the image. To use MSPAINT, choose "C:\Program Files\Accessories\MSPAINT.EXE". Once inside MSPAINT, save the image as a "BMP" inside the "C:\WINDOWS" directory. Open the "Control Panel" window and double click on the "Display" icon. Click on the "Background" tab. Select the image you would like, and click the "Apply" button. IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS * Images are in TIF format for your convenience.
