I. INTRODUCTION
MASTER MENU is a system which provides easy access to your computer
applications. It is designed to relieve the PC user of the task of remembering
the startup procedures for each application. By establishing these startup
procedures one time and storing these procedures in the menu file, the user may
then access any application with a single keystroke.
MASTER MENU runs on any PC-DOS or MS-DOS based system with a hard disk. The
system can be used on a Floppy system but with little advantage.
II. INITIAL PROCEDURES
A. Simply place All MASTER MENU files in your Root Directory
B. Key AMS to start MASTER MENU
C. ALSO add AMS as the last step in your AUTOEXEC.BAT so
MASTER MENU will automatically execute after power on
III. CONFIGURING INDIVIDUAL MENU ITEMS
While the SELECTION menu is displayed, access the CONFIGURATION menu by
pressing F1. You will be asked to enter your password (if applicable) in
order to access the CONFIGURATION menu. Upon entry of the correct password,
the system will display the CONFIGURATION menu. It is from this menu that you
will select the individual menu item to be configured.
At this point, select the menu item to be configured by pressing the
appropriate alphabetic key (A thru Z). The system will then display the
configuration screen for the selected menu item.
You will be asked to enter some information about the application. Based on
your data, a file will be written to the root directory of your hard disk. This
file will be used to start your application from the SELECTION menu. The data
you will be asked to enter is:
APPLICATION
Enter a description of the application, up to 30 characters
DIRECTORY PATH (Optional)
This entry is optional but when used it must be the full path to the directory
where the application resides. If it is the root directory, just press the
"ENTER" key.
START-UP Command
Enter the command which is required to start the application. For example,
the startup command for LOTUS 1-2-3 is "LOTUS" and the startup command for
IBM's Displaywrite 3 is "DW3". This information will be found in the
documentation for the application.
SETUP INSTRUCTION (Optional)
If there are any prerequisites, such as having a specific diskette in a drive,
enter a message here. This message will be displayed each time the application
is started as a reminder.
Upon successful entry of the SETUP INSTRUCTION, the menu generation for that
application is complete and control will be returned to the CONFIGURATION
menu. You may continue to generate additional menu items or you may conclude
configuration by pressing "ESC" to return you to the SELECTION menu.
IV. SELECTING AN APPLICATION
Press the corresponding Alphabetic character to run any menu application.
Normal exit from the application will return control to MASTER MENU.
If exit from the application was not through the normal procedure (for example,
it the application was cancelled through the "CTRL-C" keys), you must manually
restart MASTER MENU. Use the following sequence:
CD\
AMS
NOTE: Certain applications may not use standard exits or return control to
the menu system. If you have an application such as this, you must restart
the menu system manually as stated above.
V. UTILITY FUNCTIONS
Two utility functions are available by Function Key at the SELECTION menu.
F4. Change the MASTER MENU title name. This simply permits you enter to your
own custom name which will appear in the MASTER MENU heading. When changing
the title name, key new entry from the first position. Do not attempt
