  3.                         CARRIER 900/700 SERVICE

  7.           On November 30,  1988,  the FCC approved a tariff which makes
  8.           900/700 Services available to all Carriers.   Prior to  this,
  9.           only  AT&T  provided information services thru  900  numbers. 
  10.           The 900/700 service offers enhanced information  capabilities
  11.           such as
  12.              * interactive group conversations
  13.              *  recordings  for weather status,  sports  scores,  music
  14.           news,etc.
  15.  
  16.           The  900/700  Service differs from the 976  product  in  that
  17.           900/700  Services  are carried interLATA  and  interstate  as
  18.           opposed to intraLATA (LATA in telco lingo means Local  Access
  19.           Transport Area).  Also the Carrier offers the Service to  the
  20.           Information  Provider(IP)  who is  considered  the  Carrier's
  21.           customer.  This differs from 976 Service where the IP is  the
  22.           local telco's customer.

  24.           But what does all this mean to you,  John Phrack?  Why,  more
  25.           confusion,  of  course,  as  to just  who  is  handling  your
  26.           billing.  Detail  for  900/700 messages will  appear  on  the
  27.           appropriate Carrier toll page of your bill.  Messages will be
  28.           interspersed  with other LD calls placed thru  same  carrier.
  29.           The cost varies from 50 cents per minute to 2.00.

  31.           The  method used for reaching a 900 or 700  service  differs.
  32.           Calls  to  900  numbers may always be  completed  by  dialing
  33.           1+900+NNX+XXXX  (NXX being the Exchange or C.O.  code).  Each
  34.           900 NNX is carrier specific and customers will not always  be
  35.           aware of which carrier is providing the service.  Example:  A
  36.           customer  with  AT&T as the chosen 1+ carrier could  dial  an
  37.           advertised  900# provided by Allnet.   Since the service  was
  38.           reached  without dialing Allnet's access code,  the  customer
  39.           may expect the call to appear under AT&T's charges.  WRONGO!

  41.           Calls to 700 numbers are completed by dialing  1+700+NNX+XXXX
  42.           or  10XXX+1+700+NNX+XXXX depending on the  customers  primary
  43.           carrier.  Each  700 NNX is not  Carrier  specific,  therefore
  44.           customers will be aware of which Carrier is providing the 700
  45.           Service.  Advertisements  for 700 Services will  appear  with
  46.           appropriate  5-digit Carrier code.  Allnet Communications  is
  47.           the  first  carrier  to process  700  Service  messages.  The
  48.           content  of the 700 Service may be a recorded  message,  live
  49.           convo,  or  prompts  to enter responses thru the  use  of  TT
  50.           keypad.  "Live Convo"  programs won't be monitored  by  local
  51.           telco, but will be monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by
  52.           Allnet. (Are you kidding?)

  54.           By the way, if you choose to abuse this service from home (or
  55.           your  best bud's home) there is a nifty device  available  to
  56.           the Carrier call Selective Carrier Denial (SCD).  This is  an
  57.           optional  restriction  service available to  the  carrier  to
  58.           restrict  the  end  user from  accessing  their  network  via
  59.           1+,0+,00- and 10XXX dialing.  This does not affect access  to
  60.           the local network. SCD is only designed to restrict customers
  61.           with One-Party service.
