- (* 0 *) GENERAL REMARKS.
- "Sam & Max hit the Road" is a Lucasfilm adventure game. In the beginning,
- you can visit five places all over the USA, but during the game many new
- locations will appear on the map. In this walkthru I indicate this by
- "--> new location". I divided the story into a step by step solution
- containing five parts. There is no need to stick to my sequence as you
- solve the puzzles. There is no need to play the games-inside-the-game
- arcade games with the exception of the Wak-a-rat at the carnival. Have fun!

- (* 1 *) GETTING STARTED.
- In the office, examine the rathole (to get your money) and take the bulb.
- In front of the house, use Max with the cat. In one of the FastFood
- restaurants, buy the candies. Go to the carnival and give your piece of
- paper to the man at the entrance. Talk to the twisted brothers and receive
- a ticket. You must do the following things at the carnival. (a) Play
- Wak-a-rat, get a flashlight and use the bulb with it. (b) Take the giant
- lens nearby the Wak-a-rat. (c) Ride the Cone-of-Tragedy, loose all your
- junk, go to the lost+found and retrieve your items. This brings you a
- magnet "--> Fishing Area". (d) Ride the Tunnel-of-love, use the flashlight
- with the walls, and use Max with the fuses. Then touch the rightmost
- statue to open a door. Give the candies to the moleman "--> ball of twine"
- and get a key. (e) Go to Trixie's car and open it with the key. Get the
- suit and the score-card for the gulf-place "--> Gulf-place". (f) Pickup
- the jar with the hand of Jesse James and have it opened by one of the
- waiters in one of the FastFood restaurants. (g) Pickup Bruno's hair near
- the melted ice-block.

- (* 2 *) FISHING AREA, BALL OF TWINE, GULF PLACE, MYSTERY VORTEX.
- At the fishing area, pickup the bucket of fish. At the Gulf-place, pick up
- the gulf-ball retriever and then meet the country-singer. Exchange the
- bucket of gulf-balls with the bucket of fish. Play gulf and aim at the
- crocodiles till they form a path accross the water. Free Max and get
- another piece of bigfoot-hair. Open the door under the glass cage and take
- the snow-thing "--> Mystery Vortex". At the museum in the Ball of Twine,
- use the ball retriever with the hand and the magnet and use this tool in
- the twine to get the mood-ring. In the mystery vortex, use the mirror to
- get to a room with three magnets (red, blue and yellow. The yellow one is
- one screen to the right). Turn on all magnets to produce the color white;
- this allows you to open the white door in the main room (the other three
- doors can also be opened by the appropriate combinations of the magnets,
- but they are useless). Behind the white door you find another moleman, and
- you return him his mood-ring. For this you get an information (frog's rock)
- and some special powder. In the upside-down room, pick up the hairs from
- the ice.

- (* 3 *) FROG'S ROCK, BUMPUSVILLE, JUNGLE INN.
- In the restaurant at the ball of twine, talk to the man and get a twisted
- crank. Pick up the wires and connect them to the binoculars, use the lens
- from the carnival with the binoculars. Look thru it and search for frog's
- rock "--> frog's rock". At frog's rock, follow the moleman's instructions
- and use the three hairs and the powder with the rock "--> Bumpusville".
- At Bumpusville, pick up the book with the help of the gulf-ball retriever.
- Read the book and manipulate the robot. Enter the virtual reality cabin
- and get a key. WIth the help of this key free Bruno and Trixie "--> Jungle
- Inn". At the jungle inn, talk to the actress and receive some pamphlets
- "--> Dino-Bungee", "--> Vegetable world".

- (* 4 *) DINO-BUNGEE, VEGETABLE WORLD.
- In one of the FastFood restaurants, pick up the papercup and sent Max to
- the restroom. Keep the rasp and give it to the Bigfoot at the inn. At
- dino-bungee, go to the bungee jumping with Max. Use the paper cup with
- the ball-retriever and get some tar. Use Max with the hairy dino and get
- the fur. At Vegetable-world, pick up the Bumpus-vegetable and use it with
- the toupet at Bumpusville. Return to the inn. Use the tar, the fur and
- the toupet with the suit and wear the suit. You are allowed to join the
- party. Leave thru the door at the left (in the background) and get rid
- of the country-singer. Talk to the chief and learn about the secret of
- the four totempoles.

- (* 5 *) THE FOUR TOTEMPOLES.
- To the right of the totempoles, there is an exit to the chief's pool. Visit
- him and talk with him. (i) For the first totempole, pick up the bottle of
- wine at the party and the tool near the freezer with Mr.Bumpus. Go to the
- ball of twine and have the tool bent. Open the wine with the bent tool,
- and plug the snow-thing with the cork. Go to the mystery-vortex and fill
- the snow-thing at the upside-down room. (ii) At the fishing area, use the
- crank with the artificial fish. Enter the fish and take Max with you. This
- brings you to the other side of the ball of twine. Use Max to get a long
- piece of twine, and jump down. At the dino-bungee, make the left dino open
- its mouth, use the twine with it, and use Max with the twine to get a tooth.
- (iii) At Bumpusville, pick up the picture of John Muir and take it to
- Vegetables-world. Give it to the lady, leave, return and receive a pumpkin.
- (iv) At Bumpusville, pick up the pillow with the green hair-tonic. Finally,
- return to the chief and hand him over the snow-thing, the tooth, the pumpkin
- and the pillow. You save the race of bigfoots. The adventure ends with
- another fine (shooting) game.
