  10.   The DDN MANAGEMENT BULLETIN is distributed online by the DDN Network
  11.   Information Center under DISA contract as a means of communicating
  12.   official policy, procedures and other information of concern to
  13.   management personnel at DDN facilities.  Back issues may be read
  14.   through the TACNEWS server ("@n" command at the TAC) or may be
  15.   obtained by FTP (or Kermit) from the NIC.DDN.MIL host [192.112.36.5]
  16.   using login="anonymous" and password="guest".  The pathname
  17.   for bulletins is ddn-news/ddn-mgt-bulletin-nn.txt (where "nn" is the
  18.   bulletin number).

  21.                      MILNET/NIC RE-REGISTRATION SCHEDULE
  22.                          AND TAC CARD EXPIRATION
  23.  
  24. Due to the restructuring of the reregistration schedule, some users may
  25. have TAC cards whose expiration date has passed.  If you have such a card,
  26. please be advised that these cards will remain valid until your host is
  27. reregistered.  The reregistration schedule is now being finalized, and all
  28. authorized host/gateway administrators will be notified of the month in
  29. which their hosts are to be reregistered.  At this time, the templates for
  30. their current users will be made available for any deletions/modifications. 
  31. In addition, they will be asked to provide registration data for any new users
  32. (additions to the database) on the standard template.

  34. The DDN NIC has recently initiated a software change that will allow the
  35. WHOIS database to specifically identify the users on a particular host
  36. that has moved behind a gateway. In the past, users associated with a host
  37. that moved behind a gateway appeared to be associated with the gateway rather
  38. than their specific host when queried in WHOIS.  This recent software
  39. enhancement now allows you to use WHOIS to do the following:
  40.  
  41.     1) display all pertinent information regarding a particular gateway
  42.     2) see a list of all the hosts behind the gateway and
  43.     3) view all the registered users associated with these hosts.

  45. These users will now be registered against the host on which they have their
  46. primary login account.
  47.  
  48. The DDN NIC will initiate a final effort to increase the efficiency of the
  49. TAC Card process within several weeks. This will consist of a comprehensive
  50. review of the NIC database to ensure that all mailing addresses to which TAC
  51. Cards are sent are as complete and accurate as possible.  Special
  52. attention will be given to OCONUS sites, since these locations have been
  53. especially difficult to send mail to.  With the help of all authorizing host/
  54. gateway administrators, this project will further streamline the TAC Card
  55. distribution process and will ensure that cards reach their final destination
  56. as quickly and efficiently as possible.
