ZipCheck, ARJcheck, LZHcheck Documentation
Release v2.1
Written By DataLink Corporation
* In this documentation the programs will be referred to ZIPCHECK.EXE.
Recommendations :
-----------------
o IBM PC XT/AT
o Viruscan (Later the copy the better)
o PKZIP (For PkZip Files)
o PKUNZIP (To Unzip ZIP Files)
o LHA (For LZH files)
o ARJ (For ARJ files)
o PKXARC (for ARC files)
o PAK (for PAK files)
-----------------
Viruscan is needed for :
------------------------
A Copy of SCAN.EXE is needed to generate a SCAN report file.
Instead of like most programs where it scans and then deletes
bad files. This program will generate a report file from
SCAN and Archive it in with the zip files. The File
will be called SCANREPT.TXT
PkZip is needed for :
---------------------
Archiving Purposes - This is a must need.
LHA is needed for :
-------------------
Archiving Purposes - This is a must need.
PKXARC is needed for :
----------------------
A recommendation, not supported much any longer. But a good idea to
have.
PAK is needed for :
-------------------
A recommendation, not supported much any longer, But a good idea to
have.
So the main things you need for ZipCheck, ARJcheck, and LHAcheck are :
o SCAN.EXE
o PKZIP.EXE
o PKUNZIP.EXE
o ARJ.EXE
o LHA.EXE
-------------
These files are a good idea to have :
o PKXARC.EXE
o PAK.EXE
How these utilitys work -
-------------------------
They each work the same, they make a temporary directory off of the
current directory. Then they proceed by extracting the current
archive to the specified format. For example, if you are using
ARJcheck and have a .LZH file called HAPPY.LZH then Type ARJcheck
and it will make HAPPY.LZH a .ARJ file and add a SCAN report file
telling you about the virus status of the archive.
The File Created is :
o SCANREPT.TXT - This file is made by SCAN and put into the Archive.
Recommended Installation :
Make a directory called \ZIPCHK (eg., C:\ZIPCHK).
Then extract all the files from the .ARJ file to this directory.
Keep this ARJ file. Now if you are using ZipCheck type
ZipCheck ZIPCHK21.ARJ. It will now convert this to a .ZIP
extension. Now you have tested the program.
Many uses of this program :
For Bulletin Board Operators, instead of having the usual
upload utility run this program in your UPLOAD directory.
We suggest Doing ZipCheck *.* in that directory to
convert all the files over to one single format.
For the Regular user :
There are many formats for different things that take up less
space. Convert BBS files that you have gotten over to the better
format for you.
