USLT WWIV Utility Programs
The Set Released 1/30/91 contains the following small utility programs:
uslt3 which makes calls.ans
uslt5 which makes posts.ans
uslt9 which makes ages.ans (table & bar chart).
uslt13 which makes a pie chart on the screen.
uslt.doc docs
The set was created due to my personal need to monitor the activities of
the bbs without the need to look at zlog and user.lst all the time.
To run any of these (except uslt13 which makes a pie chart on the
screen) first make c:\wwiv\gfiles\charts directory. The charts
directory in gfiles is required.
you may put any or all of these first four (but not uslt13) you may run
them as external programs or better, put them in your personal
beginday.bat file as shown in the following example:
sample beginday.bat file:
(other calls)
.
.
.
@echo Please wait a few seconds while the following programs run.
@echo Remember to hit 'return' when you see the word 'pause'.
uslt3
uslt5
@echo Thank you for waiting.
Don't put uslt13 in the beginday.bat file as it doesn't go over the
modem and will "hang" waiting for a person by the console to type a
character. All the others start and stop automatically.
Once you have run the beginday.bat or manually run these programs, you
are encouraged to install the outputted files as part of a gfile
directory which uses "charts". Just add the file like you would any
gfile. Each uslt program creates the same filename every time it is run
but with updated information from the gfiles and/or user list.
Requirements
All of the outputted charts are put in c:\wwiv\gfiles\charts
subdirectory which you are to create manually before running these
programs.
USLT3.EXE makes the calls.ans (which is not the same thing as a similar
chart made by the usage.exe program by another programmer). It only
requires IBM graphics but does not require color. uslt3 makes a
several-week chart of how many calls (total) came in each day for the
past zlog history.
USLT5.EXE makes posts.ans which makes a color ansi chart (check to see
if your monitor can display the posts.ans file. uslt5 makes a chart of
how many posts, including network posts, came in each day (total per
day) for the past several weeks also using zlog information.
USLT9.EXE makes a table and colored bar chart of user ages by age-groups.
Systems using an altered "user.lst" may not let uslt9.exe work properly.
Try it and see! Remember to make a backup of user.lst first.
USLT13.EXE requires cga or upward monitor/card plus CGA.BGI file from
Borland's Turbo C. It will displays a black/white pie chart
directly on the screen (not in gfiles) by calculatinge user ages
with monochrome 600x200 res., created from data in the user list.
The program was written to be compatible cga-->upward. DO NOT put this
uslt13 program into the beginday.bat as it will "hang" waiting for
someone to hit a key to terminate it. BEFORE RUNNING USLT13 please make
a directory c:\turboc and in that directory put CGA.BGI. from your turbo
c setup or the monitor won't display at all. CGA.BGI is only made by
the Borland company and I cannot sell it to you which is why CGA.BGI is
not part of this zipped package. USLT13.EXE contains no information not
already contained by running uslt7 or 8. It was just included for
visual effect.
Backup Precaution
If you are concerned about possible damage to your user.lst in the data
directory or zlog.dat then back these up before running my uslt
programs. No one has yet complained of damage. I run them every day
and have had no damage in perhaps 100 runs. You are always responsible
for backing up your information.
Suggestion:
If you prefer to see more info on your screen at once, run the dos command
mode con:lines=50 (or 43) or whatever is the maximum number of
lines your screen can display before viewing the
.ans files my uslt programs make.
Payment
These programs are shareware and I can't force you to pay for them,
though it would be dishonest for you not to try to do so. I will take time out
to consider special situations--your low income, use by nonprofit
agencies, etc. Please feel free to pass copies of the zipped file
around.
These programs are shareware and are owned by Murray Cohn "YOGI" 1@3309.
Payment is $20 for the whole set (USLT3, 5, 9 & 13) or $6.00 each if
your equipment can't run them all (perhaps your monitor doesn't display
color ansi--so send $6 for each program that runs properly for you).
Talk to me! I will try to work this out with you and your personal situation.
For an additional $3 I will send a DSDD 5 1/4" disk with the programs
and these docs on it.
I accept checks or money orders. No cash through the mail please.
Send payment for this shareware to:

Allow me to introduce myself. I run SCCORE BBS as a nonprofit BBS from
which I have invested hundreds of dollars; I have a mental
disability which has limited my education and work abilities.
Over 120 people so far use SCCORE BBS as a service to interact and to
grow. The National Institute of Mental Health and a funding channel
have paid for SCCORE'S dedicated phone line and materials expenses. I
chose to be a Vice President of this disability organization and am
trying to provide dignity and honorability to a rather stigmatized group
of our American society. To me this is also a spiritual issue as well
as a civil rights one.
"SCCORE" stands for Statewide Consumers of Colorado On the Rise for
Expression.
May you have a very good day.
