BBS_DIR - Netted WWIV BBS Phone Number List Program - Version 1.12
Files:
BBS_DIR.EXE - The Program, executable by any WWIV v4.07 or later
BBS_DIR.287 - The Program, with all 80286/80287 optimizations
BBS_DIR.MSG - The help, introduction, and menu file
BINSTALL.COM - The installation and pathname program.
READ.ME - This File.
Installation - Data files in WWIV directories:
Put the BBS_DIR.EXE file anywhere in the DOS path. Put the *.MSG
file in the G-files directory. In order to net the list, create a file
named "BBS_DIR.NET" in your data directory and as the contents of that file,
enter the node numbers of all nodes you wish to net the list with. This is
identical to the N*.NET files for netted subs. For the netted features to
work, you need a version of the network software which supports this feature.
Version 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17 should do it; 15 does not for some reason. Don't
forget that all version of the WWIV Network Software, starting with version
17, require that the file "<data>\EXT_LIST.NET" contains a list of all
external program message types for all valid external programs using the
node. The message type # for this program is 411. Note that the BINSTALL
program will set this file up for you if you don't have the correct data
already present.
Installation - BBS_DIR has a directory of its own:
Put the BBS_DIR.EXE file anywhere in the DOS path. Put ALL the data
files into a directory of your choosing and set the pathname using the
BINSTALL.COM program provided. If you prefer, this is to accomodate sysops
who wish to keep all files relating to the same program in the same directory.
The contents of the files should be identical to the description given above;
only their location on the disk is different.
Additional Notes:
Note that this program must be run as a chain to WWIV. Dos intercept
should be enabled, but ANSI is your choice. It should run with the Shrink
feature of WWIV 4.10. If the BBS is not shrunk, there might not be enough
memory. Install it as:
BBS_DIR %1
Note that prior installations required that your system's node number be
present on the command line. This is no longer the case. However, the "%1"
should still be specified if "CHAIN.TXT" is under a different name or is not
in the current directory. Note that at the time BINSTALL is run, if there is
no node number in CONFIG.DAT (input through WWIV's INIT program), then the
program will function, but it will not read or write to the network.
Undocumented Commands:
The previously undocumented command "$" has been removed. Its feature
has been replaced by the BINSTALL.COM program.
In the BBSlist editor, the "K" key will allow the sysop to delete an entry
immediately. This way, garbage entries can be removed without the normal
"down time" wait caused by the "D" command. The "K" key may be hit again to
restore an entry, but only before the program is exited.
In the condition editor, the "W" key will cause all conditions to be
written to a file called <text>\BBS_DIR.LCL. This file is meant to handle
all "local prefixes" so that a user can load them and instantly have a set of
conditions which extract out all local BBS's.
In the BBSlist editor, the sysop may lock an individual record by hitting
the <TAB> key. Once a record is locked, it may not be altered except to
unlock it. Note that nodes running 1.07 or earlier will still be able to
modify these locked records, because the older versions don't know what a
locked record is.
This version fixes a bug in the "Transmit all entries" section where the
data is more than 32Kb. Previous versions (1.08 & -) did not split the data
correctly into multiple network packets.
To report any bugs or problems, please e-mail WWIVNet user 1@2380.

A donation of $10.00 would be appreciated. E-mail the the author at
the above WWIVNet address to get the USPS address to send the registration to.
This donation is the registration of a "shareware program" and should be made
if you like the program. Future versions of this program may enforce the
contribution idea. The address is also available in the NETEDIT docs.
