Select Forum by [Name] or [Number] or [RANGE #-#], [+]=Next Page, [-]=Prev Page
[C]hange Sort, [D]eselect Range, [Q]uit:
When you entered MainMail the first time, the only forums that were
selected were those that the sysop has determined as FORCE or AUTO-
SELECT forums. Any additional forums must be selected by you.
When you choose the [S]elect forums option, you are provided a list
of the first 30 forums in the bbs, and the prompt will be as follows:
Select Forum by [Name] or [Number] or [RANGE #-#], [+]=Next Page, [-]=Prev Page
[C]hange Sort, [D]eselect Range, [Q]uit:
To select a forum, simply enter its NUMBER or NAME. If you press
<enter> alone, MainMail will display the NEXT 30 forums. If you press
<enter> alone on the last page, MainMail returns you to the main menu.
If you enter a number or name of a forum that is not being displayed,
MainMail automatically displays a new page of forums containing the
number you entered.
When you choose a forum, MainMail displays a sub menu like this one:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Selected Forum: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Currently: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
High Message Number: xxxxxx Select [N]one, [A]ll, [Y]our, [P]riority,
Last Read Pointer: xxxxxx or [YA] for Yours and TO: ALL ?
NOTE: Once you have selected a forum by number or by name, The
MainMail System will create a record in Gap for this forum if
one is not already there. What this means is that from this
point forward, Gap will scan for new mail in this forum, even
though you have never actually JOINED this forum.
You then choose one of the four options based on how much mail you
wish to extract out of this forum. Here are the options in detail:
[N]one - Deselects this forum, removes it from your list
[A]ll - Tells MainMail to extract ALL messages
[Y]our - Extracts only messages sent to YOU
[P]riority - Makes this forum a PRIORITY forum (extracted FIRST).
[YA] - Extracts messages only to YOU and to ALL
Once you have decided which of the above you wish, enter the
selection followed by <enter>, and MainMail will display the sub-
menu shown here:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Selected Forum: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Currently: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
High Message Number: xxxxxx Input New Pointer: [#]=Num [-#]=High-Num
Last Read Pointer: xxxxxx or [Enter] for no change?
MainMail displays the highest message in the forum, and displays
the last message you read in the forum, and asks you for a new
pointer.
By default, MainMail leaves your pointer alone, and will extract all
mail since then. If you wish less mail, you have several choices:
1) Enter a number higher than your current pointer.
Whatever you enter will become your new 'last read' message number.
2) Enter a number lower than the HIGH MESSAGE pointer.
Whatever you enter will become your new 'last read' message number.
3) Enter a dash (-) and a number, and MainMail will set your 'last
read' pointer in such a way that you will receive THAT MANY messages.
For example, a '-50' will cause MainMail to set your last read pointer
to the HIGH ninus 50, and you will extract 50 message in that forum.
CAUTION should be used when entering a pointer. If you have not read
any messages in this forum before now, or if you haven't read any
messages in a while, MainMail is likely to extract an enormous number
of messages from this forum. A good rule of thumb is to set your
pointer to the high message number minus about 50, or enter a -50 when
asked for a new pointer.
Repeat this procedure for all forums you wish to select.
