  6.      FidoNet is a "Virtual Community" where we are all
  7. representative of the population. Each ECHO is like a
  8. neighborhood of the virtual community. The MEMORIES echo is _our_
  9. neighborhood. Let's keep it a nice place to hang out.
  10.  
  11.      This is the Memories Echo. It is a non-region specific
  12. conference dedicated to all persons interested in nostalgia and
  13. trivia, with some related chatter on subjects of interest to
  14. seniors. It's a bit like the pot bellied stove in the old general
  15. store. Conversations usually start with reminiscing of something
  16. from the past, but seem to lead in many directions, which the
  17. Moderator generally tolerates so long as it's civilized
  18. conversation and doesn't violate any of the specific rules below.
  19. It's a group of fun to be around folks. Come on in.
  20.  
  21.      The Moderator may appoint a successor, or call an election
  22. any time by posting an announcement in the echo. Such
  23. announcement shall define the rules of, time frame for, and the
  24. names of those responsible for monitoring and publishing the
  25. results of the election. In the event of the death or incapacity
  26. of the Moderator, the Co-Moderator shall have all the rights
  27. ascribed to the Moderator.

  29.      This is a FidoNet Backbone Echo, and, as such, adheres to

  50.      This echo is open to everyone who complies with the
  51. following rules:

  53. 1. Topics may be broad, but not stray too far from the purpose of
  54. the echo and that is to share germane conversation with those
  55. having a common interest in things past. Excessive chatter, if
  56. not related to times past, will be considered off topic.
  57.  
  58. 2. DON'T get personal! Personal attacks (Flames) and profanity
  59. are unnecessary and unwelcome in this echo. And keep it clean:
  60. This is a family echo. Risque remarks and off-color taglines will
  61. cause a Moderator response.
  62.  
  63. 3. Present day religion and politics, NO!
  64.  
  65. 4. Only the Moderator will address off-topic traffic. If a fellow
  66. participant tries to moderate you, just ignore them. If someone
  67. insults you, do not respond in kind: nothing hurts more than
  68. being ignored. If necessary, send e-mail to a moderator.
  69.  
  70. 5. NO private messages.
  71.  
  72. 6. Handles or aliases allowed in part of your BBSing with the
  73. addition of your real name at the end of the message.
  74.  
  75. 7. No test messages, nor advertisements of any kind (including
  76. BBS ads) allowed.

  78. 8. This conference may not be ported to any other network's mail
  79. system without the express written permission of the Moderator.
  80. Porting or gating the echo into the InterNet or to any Usenet
  81. newsgroup is expressly forbidden. Note: The carrying of the
  82. echoes by an InterNet site is all right, provided that any
  83. messages originating from that site, if not within this
  84. conference's rules, are subject to corrective action by the
  85. Moderator.

  87. 9. Overquoting: Remember to delete those parts of the message
  88. that don't relate to your reply. Leave just enough so that others
  89. can pick up on what's going on, or refresh their memories if they
  90. read the original post. NEVER, EVER requote signature, origin
  91. lines, addresses, nor taglines unless they are pertinent to what
  92. you're saying.

  94. 10. Underquoting: It is most distressing to see part of a message
  95. and a response, and have no idea as to what either of the
  96. messages relates. Do your quoting intelligently, and leave enough
  97. info to be certain that even a disinterested party will know
  98. what's going on. This faux pas is often related to, and could be
  99. mitigated by following:
  100.  
  101. 11. Subject not related to the topic of the message. All too
  102. often a message that started on a particular subject takes
  103. another tack. Unless the poster replying changes the subject, the
  104. message bears no relation to its indicated topic. Please try to
  105. remember when replying to see that the subject matter and the
  106. subject are in agreement.
