  2.            INTERFAITH E-Mail Conference Rules
  3. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  5. 1. INTERFAITH is a multi-religious e-mail conference and mailing
  6. list for the respectful discussion of individual religious and
  7. spiritual beliefs. INTERFAITH is also for the purpose of
  8. discrediting negative stereotypes and disarming destructive
  9. inter-faith conflicts by first-hand information and interaction.
  10.  
  11. 2. INTERFAITH includes the INTERFAITH echomail conference and the
  12. interfaith Internet mailing list. Other venues may be added in the
  13. future.
  14.  
  15. 3. INTERFAITH is moderated by a team of moderators listed below.

  22. 4. INTERFAITH e-mail conferences are firmly moderated to protect an
  23. atmosphere of respectful and thoughtful discussion.
  24.  
  25.   - Participants are encouraged to focus on what they are FOR rather
  26.     than whatever they may be AGAINST.
  27.  
  28.   - "Anti" behavior is specifically prohibited. "Anti" behavior is
  29.     defined as any of the following four techniques employed to
  30.     disparage, denigrate, ridicule, abuse, or in any way violate an
  31.     atmosphere of mutual respect:
  32.  
  33.     = Mis-use of language. This includes vulgarity, name-calling,
  34.       use of racial, ethnic or religious slurs (i.e. "cult"). Also
  35.       includes subjective redefinitions of objective terms (i.e.
  36.       attempts to define "Christian" or "pagan" in a specifically
  37.       exclusionary manner).

  39.     = Mis-appropriation of authority. This includes usurping the
  40.       right of others to define and explain their own beliefs. The
  41.       testimony and interpretations of a believer are presumptively
  42.       superior in quality to the testimony and interpretations of
  43.       outsiders or unbelievers.

  45.     = Mis-representation of doctrine: This includes issuance of
  46.       "exposes" or other presentations which fabricate, distort, or
  47.       sensationalize the beliefs of others or which attempt to
  48.       re-interpret or redefine those beliefs or create a negative
  49.       stereotype thereof.
  50.  
  51.     = Mis-representation of history: This includes issuance of
  52.       testimony which presents an distorted or sensationalized
  53.       representation of the history of a religious group or which
  54.       attempts to create or perpetuate a negative stereotype.

  56.  - A modicum of respect towards the sacred beliefs of others is
  57.  required. The content of religious ceremonies or rituals which are
  58.  held by a group to be private and/or sacred will not be discussed
  59.  within the conference.
  60.  
  61. - Proselytizing is not allowed. "Proselytizing" includes
  62.   advertisement of meetings, advertisement of materials for sale,
  63.   public prayers and other such direct attempts at religious
  64.   conversion. Echomail conferencing is not considered an
  65.   appropriate forum for such activity -- this conference exists to
  66.   understand and befriend, not to convert.
  67.  
  68. - All viewpoints and philosophies are equally welcome insofar as
  69.   they are presented in accordance with the conference rules. No
  70.   group or philosophy is presumptive dismissed, discredited, or
  71.   stereotyped.

  73. - Perceived provocation from another does NOT excuse response
  74.   in-kind. Matters of enforcement, correction, and interpretation
  75.   of conference rules are the SOLE province of the moderators.

  77. - Moderator decisions are not open to debate within the
  78.   conference. Inquiries, suggestions or complaints should be
  79.   directed to a moderator in netmail.
