  8.           OBJECTIVES, GOALS, PURPOSE and POLICIES

  11. OBJECTIVES:  idaho_libs is an "internal" (Idaho only)
  12. discussion forum for use by Libertarian Party of Idaho 
  13. members, activists, and those wishing to participate in 
  14. promoting the Libertarian Party of Idaho, individual 
  15. candidates for public office, and every other matter 
  16. inherent in promoting these goals and objectives.
  17.  
  18. At this moment, we are NOT endorsed as an "official" organ of
  19. the Libertarian Party of Idaho.  This is a moderated forum, 
  20. although it is not the intention, as such, to limit discussion
  21. in a free and open manner insofar as topical matters remain
  22. consistent with promoting the above goals and objectives.
  23.  
  24. At the same time, this forum is a "closed forum", and is open
  25. only to actual residents in the State of Idaho, members or 
  26. activists of the Libertarian Party, or those interested in
  27. taking part in promoting our activities and objectives.
  28. Additionally, bonified Idaho residents who would like to 
  29. participate and tune in to what we are all about are welcome
  30. to do so.
  31.  
  32. This is NOT a forum for discussing other political platforms
  33. outside of the Libertarian Party of Idaho and its affiliates
  34. elsewhere, including the national Libertarian Party of the
  35. U.S.  There are other discussion groups better suited for
  36. open discussion outside of these parameters, and some of these
  37. will be listed below, as ADDENDUM II.
  38.  
  39. All requests for subscription to this conference may or may
  40. not be approved based upon the following two criteria:
  41.  
  42. 1.  State of Residence:   Idaho
  43. 2.  Party of choice:      Libertarian (or those interested
  44.                           in providing such support)
  45.  
  46. GOALS:
  47.  
  48. I.  To promote the Libertarian Party of Idaho by bringing those
  49. individuals together who have an interest in coordinating and
  50. discussing building the State Party, activities and functions,
  51. and supporting endeavours contributing to educate others to 
  52. support our goals and objectives.
  53.  
  54. II. To facilitate communication and discussion by the overall 
  55. membership of the State Party, and others who wish to assist in
  56. these purposes, to achieve the maximum coordination to the 
  57. extent in which this is possible.  
  58.  
  59. III. To identify activities such as, but not limited to:
  60.  
  61.     a.  LP of Idaho participation at county fairs, gun shows,
  62. and other community, county and regional events;
  63.  
  64.     b.  Political meetings, of an ecumenical nature in which
  65. various political discussions centre on the issues of the day,
  66. and supporting matters of individual choice and liberty;
  67.  
  68.     c.  News and press releases intended for local newspapers
  69. to support the LP of Idaho and candidates for public office;
  70.  
  71.     d.  Regional support for local activities to maximize the
  72. use of limited resources;
  73.  
  74.     e.  Promoting regional LP of Idaho "conventions" and
  75. meetings to help coordinate matters at the local, grassroots
  76. level, prior to the State Convention.
  77.  
  78.     f.  Supporting county and regional LP Committees in an 
  79. effort to build a stronger organizational structure and
  80. identify candidates to run for public office at all levels;
  81.  
  82.     g.  Discussing State Platform issues, and promoting 
  83. a Libertarian orientation toward addressing specific State
  84. political issues in that overall context.
  85.  
  86. POLICIES:
  87.  
  88. 1. Membership and participation on this forum are confidential
  89. to the maximum extent possible.  Anyone agreeing to participate
  90. assumes that confidentiality of the overall membership and will
  91. not make any attempt to provide names, email address or other
  92. personal information to third parties for any purpose whatsoever
  93. without the permission of individual members concerned.
  94.  
  95. 2. Topical discussion is ANYTHING that is recognized as 
  96. appropriate discussion from a Libertarian perspective and as it
  97. it applies to the State of Idaho and the Libertarian Party of 
  98. Idaho.
  99.  
  100.    A.  Administrative and policy matters pertaining to the
  101. governing of this Conference are always "off topic" and should
  102. not be entertained here.  Such matters should be directed to 
  103. the moderator in private email.
  104.  
  105. 3. Those residing OUTSIDE of the State of Idaho, wishing 
  106. access to this conference, will be considered on a case by 
  107. case basis,  in a "read only" capacity.  Such out of state
  108. requests will normally not be approved however unless a 
  109. compelling necessity is provided, such as offers of other LP 
  110. state-affiliate parties who may have a genuine interest in 
  111. what we are doing as an aid in promoting their own Party 
  112. structure, or the national LP who may wish to observe how we 
  113. do things and what is going on in the LP of Idaho.
  114.  
  115. 4.  Human dignity and respect.  It is assumed that all 
  116. participants will communicate in a responsible, adult fashion,
  117. and respect the dignity of every other participant who chooses 
  118. to participate.  Therefore, character assassination, flamethrow-
  119. ing, denigrating of individuals, salesmanship behaviour 
  120. designed to promote other agendas, proselytizing and religious 
  121. discussions designed to promote those interests, and other 
  122. matters unrelated to promoting the Libertarian Party of Idaho 
  123. and those objectives, go beyond the purpose of this conference 
  124. and accordingly are considered grossly "off topic".
  125.  
  126. These policies will be posted once each month to this conference,
  127. and wherever any updates or modifications are made.  Anyone
  128. questioning these policies of procedures, or seeking changes
  129. and additions, should contact the moderator in private email.

  138.                   SUBSCRIBING - UNSUBSCRIBING 
  139.  
  140. We are run essentially by a semi-automated subscription mechanism
  141. that allows for moderator intervention and approval or disapproval
  142. of subscription requests.  Eventually we will be adding a web 
  143. site to facilitate this mechanism as well, where subscription
  144. requests and unsubscription requests can be accommodated at a
  145. web site nearest you.
  146.  
  147. In the meantime, here's how it all works:

  149. 1.  To subscribe or unsubscribe:  Send an email message to:

  156. real name and City, State.  Your address is optional.  Next, 
  157. identify your interest in the Conference, whether you are
  158. Libertarian, or wish to support the Libertarian Party of Idaho's
  159. goals and objectives, or have an interest in learning more about
  160. the party and what we are doing.

  164. ADDENDUM II:
  165.  
  166.    OTHER LIBERTARIAN-ORIENTED POLITICAL DISCUSSION GROUPS
  167.  
  168. LIBERTY NORTHWEST CONFERENCE & NEWSGROUP:  Liberty Northwest is
  169. a regional discussion group formed to promote libertarianism in
  170. the Pacific Northwest, although it is open to a world-wide 
  171. audience as well.  It has a moderate to heavy load of daily
  172. traffic, and is most likely the largest libertarian-oriented
  173. political conference in North America.  There is no limiting on 
  174. topics of discussion, nor on who participates. Anyone from any 
  175. perspective whatsoever can subscribe.  It is also available on 
  176. three simultaneous platforms, Fidonet, Usenet Newsgroup, and 
  177. by email subscription.
  178.  
  179.     1.  FIDONET:  Your sysop can AREAFIX Liberty Northwest 
  180. from a hub carrying the Fidonet Z1 Backbone, with the "keyword" 
  181. (upper case) LIB_NW (exactly as here written).  Your Fidonet
  182. BBS sysop must have access to Backbone traffic.
  183.  
  184.     2.  USENET NEWSGROUP:  Available from the following 
  185. news server:  news.spokane.wa.us.  Netscape and MS Explorer
  186. users will have to add this server, then point to "groups" and
  187. subscribe to:  spk.liberty_nw.

  189.     3.  EMAIL SUBSCRIPTIONS:  Send a blank email message to:
  190. libnw@dmi.net with the subject line reading:  subscribe libnw
  191.  
  192. LIBERNET and LIBERNET-d:  These are companion groups with
  193. different purposes, and they have historically been the rather
  194. "official" national platform surrounding the Libertarian Party
  195. of the U.S.  LIBERNET is more for official national LP business,
  196. news releases and other matters, while LIBERNET-d is the
  197. companion group for actual wide-range discussions covering
  198. almost any topic coming into focus with libertarianism at all.
  199. Both of these groups originally were gated into the Fidonet
  200. echo LIBERTY.  This is no longer the case, and LIBERTY is not
  201. used at this moment since it never achieve Fidonet Backbone
  202. status and no BBS wishes to support it as I speak.  It is
  203. listed in the Fidonet Echolist, since it is supported currently
  204. in that form by Liberty Northwest, but there has been no usage
  205. for years.  The LIBERNETs also have all but disappeared and
  206. traffic is next to nonexistent at this time.  Both are available
  207. only via email subscription at this time:

  213. LIBERTALK and LIBERTALK-d:  Hosted by the University of Michigan, 
  214. it too has very little traffic on a day to day basis.  At the
  215. administrative level, I have not been able to talk with anyone
  216. for several months.  The list still exists, but participation
  217. levels are next to zilch and the number of current subscribers
  218. is unknown.  To get more information, send an email request to:

  221. OTHER LIBERTARIAN NATIONAL USENET NEWSGROUPS:
  222.  
  223. alt.politics.libertarian and talk.politics.libertarian are both
  224. alive on the national Usenet Backbone and can be picked up 
  225. virtually anywhere news is available.  Somewhat related Civil
  226. Liberties newsgroups are:  alt.society.civil-liberty and
  227. alt.society.civil-liberties (almost identical traffic, take
  228. your pick on the last two).  The first two also have a lot
  229. of crossposting between them.  Spam is there on all of these,
  230. but not as bad as most of the alt. groups.
