RULES OF THE ENGLISH TUTOR ECHO
1. The purpose of this echo is to provide help with mastering the English
language. All the following rules are aimed at this goal.
2. Play nice and play fair. Be kind to each other. Be considerate of, and
respectful towards, all other participants. A helpful spirit on all
participants' part is mandatory.
3. No ridiculing. No personal attacks ("flames"). This rule is vigorously
enforced.
4. If anyone feels the need to right a perceived wrong, notify the
moderator by Netmail or E-mail and ask him to deal with the problem.
In other words, please leave the moderating to the moderators.
5. No profanity. This is an international family echo. Participants are
expected to act in a mature and polite manner. You may, however, ask
the meaning of a vulgarism. You may also quote vulgarisms, say in a
joke, if it is not done to excess. The frivolous use of profanities
will still be frowned upon.
6. The language of the ENGLISH_TUTOR echo is, predictably, English.
Those who cannot make themselves understood or take instruction in
English at all should seek basic instruction elsewhere.
7. Please DO quote, but do not quote more than necessary.
8. Please use real names. No aliases or handles are permitted.
9. No advertisements for products or services. You may mention
programs, books, magazines and other sources or devices related to
the study of the English language.
10. No formal qualifications are required to act as a tutor. However,
tutors are expected to be literate in English.
11. Emphasis is based on the use of standard English, but regionalisms are
acceptable, provided a tutor identifies them as such (see [12] for
exception).
12. Notwithstanding (11), the consistent use of American English spelling
is acceptable and need not be identified as such.
13. Due to their highly emotional implications, discussions of religion
and politics are to be avoided. The purpose of this proscription is
to avoid rancor. With this in mind and within reason and good taste,
discussions of sex will be tolerated.
14. If you wish to challenge the moderator's decision, do so by netmail
or e-mail only.
15. Participation in this echo is a privilege. Anyone is welcome here as
long as they abide by the rules. Breaking of the rules may lead to the
revoking of this welcome. We try to avoid removing the privilege of
posting here as much as we can, but it can happen and, if necessary,
will.
16. Enjoy!
