  1. DEATHLAW  - Discussions of Law and Freedom, Life and Death

  5. 1 - This echo is for discussion of "Law and Freedom, Life and Death." This
  6. potentially contentious area of discussion includes such areas as the Right to
  7. Die and the Law's power to take away that freedom.  English is the official
  8. language of this echo.  Legal and medical professionals are encouraged to
  9. participate.  I'm neither, just a guy who was willing to provide a venue for a
  10. discussion that was off-topic on another list.
  11.  
  12. 2 - I hope to act as a "host," rather than a Moderator.  Think of this Echo as
  13. stopping by my house and having an after-dinner discussion over coffee about
  14. some -very- serious stuff.  By the same token, one subscriber asked me if
  15. related jokes he'd heard from a relative -- who happens to be hospitalized
  16. under related circumstances -- were allowable.  In such a case, I will Consider
  17. The Source.  If it becomes a problem, I hope y'all will be courteous and
  18. refrain.  Otherwise, I'll refrain ya.  (see Rule 13)

  20. 3 - You are welcome in my house to say what you believe.  So am I.  So are my
  21. other guests.  I will expect them to respect your right to your opinion, and
  22. the same of you.  I will not expect them to tolerate your rants or rudeness,
  23. and vice versa.

  25. 4 - Most of the "earlier arrivals" are here via my Internet
  26. maillist,deathlaw@atbbs.com.  They are likely to find big messages and
  27. extraneous messages problematic.  So stay within the confines of the topic. If
  28. you have other things to discuss, please discuss them elsewhere. Since the
  29. topic is (I hope) something folks tend to feel strongly about, your personal
  30. history as it relates to the topic is -on- topic.  Your skiing vacation is
  31. probably not, unless you were arrested, convicted and sentenced to death while
  32. on this vacation, or actually -died- on vacation, for example.  Thanks.

  34. 5 - Many of the "later arrivals" are here via Fidonet, a BBS network. They are
  35. likely to find long and repetitive signature files a waste of space.
  36. HTML-formatted messages will simply show up as long stretches of meaningless
  37. text commands, and will be -twice- as long as a text message, at least.  This
  38. list should be text only.  If that's a problem, go somewhere where that sort of
  39. thing is acceptable.

  41. 6 - If a program (reader, tagline mgr, etc.) is adding a lot of extra junk to
  42. messages, please don't use it here.  (The
  43. moderator will decide what's "extra junk", and let you know.)

  45. 7 - Please, limit quoting in your replies.  (If you're quoting more than a
  46. couple lines, you're probably quoting too much.)  Never quote tag/ tear/origin
  47. lines or signatures.

  49. 8 - Rules of Common Courtesy apply at -all- times.  If you want to argue with,
  50. or complain to someone, do it in netmail or in email off list.  You are welcome
  51. to state and explain your opinion.  You are welcome to ask about other's
  52. opinions.  In my house, attacking other folks' opinions is wasted breath.  You
  53. won't convince them, they won't convince you, you'll just pixx each other off.
  54. If you want to fight, there's places to do that.  My living room ain't one of
  55. those places. I'd be happy to show y'all where the door is.

  57. 10 - This echo may not be gated (in or out) to any other FTN-style network, or
  58. the Internet, without without prior permission of the moderator. Authorized
  59. gates will be published in the ELIST*.* listing for this echo.  Permission to
  60. archive the content of this maillist/echo is specifically declined.

  62. 11 - Don't bother to argue with me about how I treat my guests.  I have a small
  63. place, and it's a big world out there.  If you feel I've missed something,

  67. some arrangements to block SPAM.  If there's need, I will make more.

  70. Nice Guy.  If you choose to participate in the echo or subscribe to the
  71. maillist, you choose to trust that.  But understand if I feel you're treating
  72. your fellow guests badly, I'll cut your email address from the list and/or get
  73. your access to the Echo cut in a Minnesota second (which is longer than a New
  74. York second, but much colder).
