  2. Purpose -
  3. =========
  4. The BUSINESS conference is for discussion of starting and running a
  5. business. Feel free to talk about ideas, problems, ask questions,
  6. state your opinion, and bring up topics relevant to business.
  7. While the primary purpose of this echo is NOT to act as an advertising 
  8. medium, nor a place to 'broadcast' messages that advertise or solicit
  9. business,  recruit employees, or seek quotes on goods or services, there
  10. may be instances when an explanation of your business will be of benefit
  11. to others in the echo.
  12. Because of the potential for abuse, the moderator reserves the right
  13. to deny access, either on a temporary or permanent basis to those that
  14. violate the rules of the echo.
  15. If you are unsure of whether or not your postings may be in violation
  16. of the rules...DO NOT post!  You may contact the moderator via netmail
  17. or email at the addresses listed below for clarification.
  18. Behavior -
  19. ==========
  20. This echo is for civilized and reasonably mature discussion.
  21. Personal attacks and other modes of flaming not be tolerated.
  22. The object of this echo is to learn from others, not to argue
  23. with them.  Messages judged by the moderator to be personal attacks
  24. will result in denial of access to the echo.
  25. ASCII Characters -
  26. ============
  27. While ascii characters are allowed in the echo, the will be NO use
  28. of ANSI escape codes.  Posters are gently discouraged from overuse
  29. of ASCII characters. 
  30. Real Names Only -
  31. =========
  32. Please use your full and "real" name when posting messages in the
  33. BUSINESS conference.  If you  have a logon that appears to be a handle,
  34. you can sign your real name at the end of your message.
  35. Netmail Access REQUIRED -
  36. =======
  37. It is sometimes desirable to respond by netmail to the poster of  a
  38. message in this echo.  In addition, the moderator may have a requirement
  39. to reach a poster. If you don't know how to send  netmail, ask your sysop
  40. how to do this on the particular board you use.
  41. The poster of any message MUST be reachable through Netmail
  42. either by:
  43. 1.  using the name that appears in the From: field of the
  44. message and the Fidonet address that appears in the origin line, or
  45. 2.  using another name and Fido address for Netmail. This name
  46. and  address must be added to each message you post.
  47. Sysops:  If users of your system cannot comply with these rules,
  48. then your system can not deliver BUSINESS to your users.  If the
  49. moderator can not reach a user on your board via netmail, then you
  50. run the risk of having access to the echo denied.
  51. While posters may have internet email addresses at their disposal,
  52. that method of mail does NOT replace the requirement for netmail
  53. capability.  
  54. Moderation -
  55. ============
  56. Moderation duties are the sole responsibility of the moderator of
  57. record for the BUSINESS echo, and any such co-moderators he may
  58. appoint.
  59. Airing complaints about other participants in the echo not only can
  60. lead to personal attacks, but also create traffic that impedes the
  61. orderly dissemination of business information.  As such, complaints
  62. should be directed at the participant(s) with a cc to the moderator.
  63. They should NOT be posted in the echo, and if done, will be considered
  64. Off-Topic, and grounds for denial of access to the echo.
  65. Complaints, Comments and suggestions about moderation in this echo
  66. should be sent via netmail to the moderator.  They are NOT to be
  67. posted in the echo, and if done, will be considered as Off-Topic. 
  68. Quoting -
  69. =========
  70. Quoting parts of the message to which you're replying is often
  71. useful in establishing the context of your reply, however, quoting
  72. should be kept to a minimum. Quoting the tagline, tearline, etc. are
  73. nearly always a complete waste of space.  Quoting the entire message
  74. is generally a waste. Quoting entire paragraphs is often a waste; a
  75. well-chosen sentence or two will usually do. Excessive quoting will
  76. be considered excessively annoying behavior and dealt with accordingly.
  77. MLM,  Employment,  Etc. -
  78. =========================
  79. Discussions of MLM or other opportunities is OFF TOPIC. There is an
  80. echo devoted to the discussion of MLM. "FA$T CA$H" postings are grounds
  81. for an immediate ban from the BUSINESS echo. 
  82. Employment issues, hiring and retention, salary and benefit packages
  83. are legitimate concerns for businesses. Postings by either those
  84. seeking employment or offering it are not appropriate and are OFF TOPIC.
  85. The moderator(s) reserve the right to make further rules for those who
  86. continue to be an aggravation to the rest of us! On occasion, the
  87. moderator(s) may judge that the content of a message is  inappropriate
  88. or has the potential to attract a barrage of  inappropriate messages,
  89. and may arbitrarily rule a posting OFF TOPIC.
  90. Geographic Scope -
  91. ===================
  92. Please consider before posting about a specific situation that is
  93. purely local in nature. The BUSINESS echo is received not only
  94. in the US and Canada, but many other countries as well.
  95. Sysop Responsibility -
  96. ======================
  97. Sysops who carry the BUSINESS echo on their systems are responsible for
  98. all messages which are posted to this conference from their systems.
  99. This includes all messages from the system and from any points. All
  100. messages must have an origin line with a valid (in the nodelist)
  101. fidonet address. Gating to other networks must have the approval of
  102. the moderators prior to any messages being gated. Gating will only
  103. be approved if the other network agrees to cooperate with the
  104. BUSINESS conference moderator, pass messages to users in their net,
  105. and respond to moderator disciplinary requests. If messages are gated
  106. to and from this conference from another net, the gateway system
  107. must append its origin line to the message so that netmail
  108. replies can be properly routed.
  109. Gating the BUSINESS Echo to and from Internet NewsGroups is EXPRESSLY
  110. PROHIBITED, by either users or sysops!
  111. Sysops should make these rules available to their users to insure that
  112. the users read them BEFORE they begin participation in the conference.
  113. If you have been contacted by a Moderator regarding use or abuse
  114. of the echo, you are expected to respond promptly via netmail to
  115. 1:261/1352 or email at thom@fablotz.min.net if requested to do so.
  116. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the ability to carry the
  117. BUSINESS Echo.
  118. Noncompliance -
  119. ===============
  120. If you cannot abide by and comply with the rules, you are not welcome
  121. in this echo.  Sysops are required to not allow their users to post
  122. inappropriate or abusive messages to this  conference. Anyone who
  123. posts such messages will be warned of the infraction. If inappropriate
  124. posting continues by a user, the moderator will ask the system(s)
  125. upstream to disconnect your BUSINESS echo feed. While this method is
  126. effective, it is far better is all participants simply abide by the
  127. rules.
  128.
