The object of the game is to conquer all of the villages (■) in the
game or to be a part of an alliance that does so.
Only Infantry, Cavalry, Heavy Cavalry can attack villages and claim
them in the name of your empire. Other units such as the Catapult,
Ballista, Ship, etc. serve different purposes in the game.
Villages produce Iron, Grain, Gold, Men and Horses. By conquering
more villages, you can afford to build more units (which you will need
both to defend the villages you've claimed as well as to attack more
villages). Only Grain is not used to build units. Grain is consumed by
the units you build (although they will eat less if they end their turn
in a village) and therefore limits the number of units you may have at
any one time. By saving back a little grain each turn (produce more
than you consume) you can have a reserve in case you ever need more
units than you can actually feed.
Timber is also used to build certain units, such as the Ship and
seige-engine. Timber is not produced by villages, so it must be
collected by engineers and dropped onto your castle or villages.
Initially, build as many infantry as you can (they are cheap, eat
little grain, and can attack villages). Attack all of the villages
around your castle, especially if they are un-owned.
During later turns, begin building engineers and collecting timber
to drop on your castle or villages. Engineers will also be needed to
build bridges and roads, canals and dry-ground in swamps. In order to
build, an engineer must have at least one timber. To dig a canal (for
example, to get ships from your castle to the ocean or a river), first
build at the location you wish to dig the canal. It should become a
road. Next, build at the same location again (note: You'll need another
stick of timber). This time it should become a spot of water.
Different terrain (ground, road, forest, etc.) requires a different
number of turns to traverse. Swamps are the worst terrains, requiring
twice as much time (turns) to travel through than regular ground.
Caravans may build villages or forts. By moving your throne to a
differend Fortress, you can build units closer to where they are needed.
You can abandon any Fortress - but you can never abandon your Castle!
Make friends with at least one of your neighbors and don't trust
anyone!
