  1. Son Net Policies and Procedure Manual              Jan 1995

  3. This document details the process by which Son-Net operates.
  4.           (QWK or Fido Standard supported)
  5.  
  6. This Network is for the discussion of Biblical matters from a
  7. Fundamental, Bible-Believing Christian perspective. 
  8.  
  9. Our Originating Hub is The Seed Sowers BBS, located in Willowdale,
  10. Ontario, Canada.  Willowdale is a suburb of Metropolitain Toronto. You

  14. We invite new users and Bulletin boards to join our network, and I hope
  15. you find it a warm and friendly place.  We invite System Operators to
  16. contact any network node for an application.  Most applications will be
  17. approved fairly quickly.  We may however contact your BBS from time to
  18. time as part of the acceptance process.

  20. We intend to make admittance fairly easy, providing:
  21.  
  22.            - You accept SON-net rules and regulations
  23.            - Your board is not an alias board (real names only!)
  24.            - Your board does not operate as an Elite board (pirate)
  25.            - Your board is run in an honest and legal manner
  26.            - Your board does not promote moral impurity

  33. Son-Net Rules and Regulations.

  36. Section 1    User Regulations
  37.  
  38.     1.0  User:  A person who participates in the network.
  39.      
  40.     1.1  Insulting or name calling or putting down another network
  41.          user is not permitted.  Putting down another BBS, whether
  42.          that BBS is a member of this net or not, is also not
  43.          permitted.

  45.     1.2  The use of profanity is not permitted, nor is implying such
  46.          by masking some of the characters, if the moderator can tell
  47.          what word you implied, it will be considered an infraction.
  48.  
  49.     1.3  Son-net is a fundamental Bible believing based network.
  50.          The purpose and goal of this net is to study and learn
  51.          from God and His Word, The Bible.
  52.  
  53.          1.3.1 A user may not believe in God, however mocking God,
  54.                Christianity, or His Word, will be considered an
  55.                infraction.
  56.  
  57.          1.3.2 Son-net is a Christian based network.  This means that
  58.                honest questions and discussions are encouraged.
  59.                However should a user come for the purpose of attacking
  60.                or tearing down Christianity or the Bible it will
  61.                be considered an infraction.  The purpose of this
  62.                net is not for Christians to have to defend the
  63.                various claims and attacks from those who reject the
  64.                Scriptures.   We are here to learn and grow with
  65.                belief in the Scriptures as a foundation.  Users
  66.                must respect that premise.

  68.          1.3.3 SON-net is not a soapbox for other religions or
  69.                false teachers to present and defend their 
  70.                particular religion or viewpoint. At any time a 
  71.                administrator may limit a discussion should 
  72.                improper teaching be presented by a user.  SON-net 
  73.                is an Evangelical, Bible believing, Spirit-reborn, 
  74.                fundamental, Christian network.
  75.  
  76.          1.3.4 Administrators/moderators may limit discussions of
  77.                certain topics that we believe would impair
  78.                Christian growth. (Such as Rock Music etc)
  79.  
  80.      1.4  A user may freely disagree with another user, but you must
  81.           remain polite in your disagreement.  We encourage differing
  82.           viewpoints, however, religious discussion is often a hot
  83.           topic, and we are trying to keep everyone at peace.  
  84.           Although disagreements are allowed, flaming and rudeness is
  85.           considered an infraction.

  87.      1.5  Messages must stay within the topic of the conference in
  88.           which they are posted.
  89.  
  90.      1.6  All users must use their real name, no aliases or handles
  91.           are permitted.  The Sysop is responsible to verify that
  92.           users are who they say they are.
  93.  
  94.      1.7  No illegal activity is permitted in messages on the Net.
  95.           Violation of this policy will result in immediate removal
  96.           from the Network.

  98.      1.8  There is no such thing as receiver only or private mail in
  99.           the SON-net Network.  ALL messages can be read by the
  100.           SON-net Administrators, moderators, and sysops.  The
  101.           receiver only messages MAY also be readable by other
  102.           users of differing BBS's in the SON-net Network due to
  103.           software glitches and the receiver only flag being dropped
  104.           as the message passes throughout the net.  Messages whether
  105.           marked private or receiver only must still abide by all
  106.           rules and regulations of the SON-net network.

  108.      1.9  Troublesome users (who violate these regulations), may be
  109.           warned, asked to voluntarily leave a conference for a period
  110.           of time by the moderator, or the users originating Sysop may
  111.           be asked to remove the user from the conference and/or
  112.           Network.

  114. Section 2    Node Regulations
  115.  
  116.      2.0  Node :  A BBS that makes network messages available to
  117.           users on their System.
  118.  
  119.      2.1  Nodes must be approved by the Network Administrator,
  120.           and assigned a network NodeID before they can access the
  121.           network.  The System Node is fully responsible for the long
  122.           distance costs of receiving the netmail from a recognised hub.
  123.  
  124.           2.1.1  To help minimize long distance costs, we will encourage
  125.                  many BBSes to act as hubs.   It is not required for
  126.                  all hubs to phone the the Originating hub.  This will
  127.                  encourage point to point transfers and hopefully keep
  128.                  long distance charges minimal.

  130.           2.1.2  We also permit any accurate method of transfer that you
  131.                  can arrange between your node and your hub.  For
  132.                  example : QWK Packets, Fido type messages, or PCRelay.
  133.  
  134.           2.1.3  We are very flexible but would like all nodes to
  135.                  pick up mail at least once a week....(we would
  136.                  prefer more frequency but realize long distance
  137.                  costs can add up).
  138.  
  139.      2.2  Nodes must agree to abide by all system rules, before
  140.           they can be approved.  Using your NodeID, means that you agree
  141.           to accept these rules.

  143.      2.3  System nodes, may not transfer messages to another BBS, until
  144.           they have hub status approved by the Network Administrator.
  145.  
  146.      2.4  Nodes must abide by a moderator or Network Administrators request
  147.           to remove a user from a specific conference or conferences.
  148.  
  149.      2.5  System node operators must make their own arrangements for the
  150.           method of transfer used between the node and their hub.  This must
  151.           be agreed to by the Hub.
  152.  
  153.      2.6  Nodes that violate these regulations may have their
  154.           node access cut off by their hub on the request of the
  155.           Network Administrator.

  157.      2.7  System nodes must display their network tagline in this format:

  159.              This section (2.7) does not apply to Imex members, they may
  160.              use their regular Imex tagline.

  166.           nodeid   = Your NodeID from the official node list
  167.           BBS-name = the name of your BBS
  168.           city     = your city
  169.           phone    = your BBS phone-number(s) (Optional)

  175. Note:  For Private BBSes, they may enter the phone number as -private-
  176.

  181.      2.8  Sysops must make the SON-net information packet available
  182.           for download to all users, preferably as a FREE download
  183.           where technically possible.

  185. Section 3  Hub Regulations
  186.  
  187.      3.0   Hub : a BBS that transfers messages to another BBS.
  188.  
  189.      3.1   A node may apply to become a Hub, but does not become
  190.            a hub until they receive permission to transfer mail to
  191.            another BBS.
  192.  
  193.      3.2   Hubs may only transfer messages to approved nodes.
  194.  
  195.      3.3   Hubs agree to transfer messages from nodes to their hub
  196.            within within the time agreed upon with System Admin.
  197.  
  198.      3.4   Hubs agree to abide by all regulations for nodes.
  199.  
  200.      3.5   Hubs are not permitted to delete or alter the contents of
  201.            messages on the network, in any form.
  202.            Note:  This only applies until all receiving nodes have
  203.            received the message.  This does NOT apply to messages
  204.            that originate from YOUR BBS.
  205.  
  206. Section 4  Moderators
  207.  
  208.      4.0   A moderator is a person who moderates or referees a
  209.            conference.
  210.  
  211.      4.1   Moderators are approved as moderators by the Network
  212.            Administrator.  You must fill out an application, applying
  213.            does not guarantee acceptance.
  214.  
  215.      4.2   A Moderator has authority only in their own conference, they
  216.            may not moderate another conference.
  217.  
  218.      4.3   If a moderator is unavailable due to illness or vacation,
  219.            then he/she may ask another approved moderator to take over
  220.            in the interum.  The moderator should notify the Network
  221.            Administrator that this is the case.
  222.  
  223.      4.4   A moderator must give a minimum of two warnings of
  224.            infractions before they can request removal of a user.
  225.            The only exception is if the user grossly violates the
  226.            rules (cursing, exceeding blasphemy etc). In certain extreme
  227.            cases the moderator or SON-net Administration may request
  228.            immediate removal of a trouble user.
  229.                The moderator may then request the Node to remove the
  230.            user and the Node Sysop must comply upon receiving the
  231.            request.  The Moderator will report failure to do so to the
  232.            Network Administrator.
  233.                Should a user get out of hand, the moderator may request
  234.            the user to voluntarily stay out of the conference for a
  235.            short time.  This would be an alternative to the permanent
  236.            removal of a user from the conference.
  237.  
  238.      4.5   A user may appeal to the Network Administrator the decision
  239.            of a moderator.  The decision of the Network Administrator is
  240.            FINAL.
