--------------------------------
How to Batch Upload to a RBBS-PC
BBS System that uses RBatch
--------------------------------
Last Revised
December 18, 1992
A lot of users of RBBS-PC BBS systems don't realize that you can do
batch uploading of files. For BBS Systems using the RBatch file
processing program, batch uploading is made as easy as possible for
the user with a program written by Tom Hansen called: TAG200B.ZIP
If your SysOp does not have the TAG200B.ZIP program on their BBS, ask them
to please make the program available or you can call Church Chatters BBS
at 402-593-8863 (home of TAG) to download the latest version.
TAG is a utility that a is used on a users computer to prepare a batch
upload prior to loggin onto the BBS. Once on the BBS, TAG is used once
again to send the files to the BBS with choices from ZModem, HS/Link,
BiModem and others. With this interface, sending files to your favorite
BBS is VERY SIMPLE. Even Bi-Directional transfers are a snap with TAG.

For systems using RBatch you can upload files that contain the following
files that will automatically post the file descriptions:
1. FILE_ID.DIZ
2. DESC.SDI
3. .DOZ
Choice number 1 & 2 are files that are contained within an archive file.
Choice 3 is a file ONLY SUPPORTED BY RBATCH. We will explain what each
of these files are.
FILE_ID.DIZ - This file should only be included within an archive by the
author of the program. The format of this file is 10
lines with a maximum of 45 characters per line. Not
everyone seems to follow this standard. This file
originally came from the DESC.SDI and was modified by
Clark Developement.
DESC.SDI - Again this is another file that is included within an archive.
It is usually the author that adds these files, but I am not
certain if it is supposed to be limited to just the author,
hence why this file is part of the TAG program.
.DOZ - This is a text file that contains ALL THE NAMES OF THE FILES
THAT YOU ARE BATCH UPLOADING. This file is excellent for
files that are not usually compressed (.GIF's are one
example). But remember you can list ALL your files that you
are uploading so that the category and description are
processed for you AUTOMATICALLY by RBatch.
The .DOZ has a VERY SPECIFIC FORMAT THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED.
An example of the format of a .DOZ file follows:
{FI dflat8.zip window x
Description of file goes here with a maximum
line length of 80 characters and a maximum
of 10 lines
{FI jiklan.zip window
Description of file goes here with a maximum
line length of 80 characters and a maximum
of 10 lines
{FI ved201.zip utils n dan shore
Description of file goes here with a maximum
line length of 80 characters and a maximum
of 10 lines
Line 1 : ALWAYS STARTS WITH A {FI and then the filename. Note
that there is a space between the {FI, filename, &
the category code. Do not use a path for the file.
##### The text MUST START AT THE LEFT MARGIN. The example
above starts in the middle of the screen for ease of
reading.
The category code is the code that you type when
prompted to categorize a file. It is best to keep
a cheat sheet of the category codes of the BBS's
that you upload to.
The next field is if you are going to be uploading a
personal file to the BBS. If you use a "X", this tells
RBatch to not prompt the user to see if the file is
a personal upload or not. If you use the following
codes:
N = UserName for personal file
S = Personal Upload to SysOp (No additional field needed)
L = Personal Upload to security level
D = Personal Upload to a distribution list
If you use one of these codes, the RBatch EXPECTS to see
a value in the next field after this letter (except for
the SysOp personal upload).
Line 2 thru 11 : The description of the file to be posted, with
a maximum line length of 80 chars and a maximum
of 10 lines.
--------------------------- IMPORTANT ------------------------------------
The .DOZ file is uploaded to a BBS as part of the Uploading process and
can be sent first, in the middle, or last, it does not matter.
REMEMBER THAT THE .DOZ FILE CONTAINS "ALL" THE FILENAMES THAT YOUR ARE
UPLOADING OR POSTING LOCALLY. DO NOT USE MORE THAN ONE (1) .DOZ FILE
WITH RBATCH OR IT WILL NOT WORK.
--------------------------- IMPORTANT ------------------------------------
When you upload your files and the .DOZ, RBatch will automatically process
the .DOZ file and categorize and enter the file descriptions of all your
files. What does this mean for you? Well, you can prepare the files to
be uploaded ahead of time, call the BBS, start the upload and walk away.
No need to enter in a file description, category code or wait for the
transfer to finish. This means more time online for YOU to download
files, play door games, read messages or whatever you like to do.
If you are confused with all of this, just ask you sysop for assistance
with the .DOZ file. After you get the hang of it, you will see the
benefit of using one when you upload files. How many times have you
upload a file and spent many minutes entering in a file description
due to misspelling or trying to remember what the file is? Well, spend
this time before you call the BBS and again have more time on the BBS (due
to the file credits you get for uploading files) to do what you like to
do best.
