└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
IceUser is an online user editor for RemoteAccess. It allows you to edit
all facets of your user's profiles. What makes IceUser different is the
fact that it focuses on System security. The registered version of IceUser
is able to distinguish between 3 different user types: Sysop, CoSysop, and
"Normal" (that doesn't mean normal user persay, but those Cosysops who
should have very restricted access to the editor). By differentiating these
three accesses, your CoSysops can have complete access, limited access,
or only the ability to validate new users to predetermined access levels.
I imagine there people reading this who use some of my other utils, and are
thinking, "Jer, you're really going downhill with this.". :)
But in fact, this is TRUELY my first ever utility that I've written. It was
written back in 92 or so for RemoteAccess 1.10. One release of it was
made under the name of "UserEd!" and than I quietly stuffed it on one of my
many shelves. Recently I have been digging through some of this stuff, and
decided to renew it as an Ice Utility with some new stuff thrown in.
This version is basically to "test the waters" so to speak. If it gets
worked over and I get feedback on it, I plan on adding a menu editor
component to it. If not, then oh well.

│░░░▒▒▒▓▓▓ Credits ▓▓▓▒▒▒░░░│
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
There are a few people who helped with the development of IceUser that
although they weren't involved in the creation or writing of the program,
their suggestions, bug reports, and lengthy ßeta testing have been an
enormous asset. I would like to thank in no particular order :
Ian Thomsen, Danny Dufour, Jim Edwards, & Marc Kulak for all of their
help. Couldn't have done it without them!
Also, portions of the Fossil Routines used in IceUser v0.50 are Copyright
1993-94 By Tim Strike and Forbidden Knights Systems.

│░░░▒▒▒▓▓▓ Program Configuration - Using UserCfg ▓▓▓▒▒▒░░░│
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Setting up IceUser is quite easy. This section of the documentation will
attempt to take you step by step on how to use the configuration utility
UserCfg.Exe to set up IceUser. Most of the options are self explanatory.
You can use the local testmode feature at any time to test out how your
current settings will affect IceUser.Exe without having to save your
settings or exit the configuration program.

┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│░░░▒▒▒▓▓▓ Executing IceUser - Main Program ▓▓▓▒▒▒░░░│
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Please read the section of this document entitled 'Setting Up IceUser Using
UserCfg.Exe' BEFORE attempting to install IceUser into RA. Failure to setup
IceUser correctly before installing it into your bbs program will probably
result in IceUser failing to run or not running as expected.
In order to run IceUser.Exe, you must have a fossil driver active. A fossil
driver such as BNU should work fine with IceUser. If you don't have a fossil
driver installed, a simple error message will be displayed, and the program
will stop. A fossil is not required when running in local mode.
We will now run through EVERYTHING you need to do in order to get IceUser to
run in your RemoteAccess setup.
1. Extract all the files in the distribution archive to a directory of your
choice. C:\RA\IceUser is recommended and is assumed to be the directory
you are using from now on.
2. To help IceUser find it's configuration files, you need to define an
environment variable for it in this manner in your AutoExec.Bat :
SET ICE={PATH TO ICEUSER DIRECTORY}
PLEASE NOTE, THE ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE NAME IS IUSER - NOT ICEUSER !!
The environment variable is used by IceUser to find its system files
and configuration. Failure to setup the environment variable can result
in IceUser failing to run correctly - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Please see your DOS manual for more information on environment variables.
N.B.
You will need to reboot your machine after entering the environment
variable for it to take effect.
3. Run UserCfg.Exe and configure all of IceUser's options as explained
earlier in this document. You MUST configure IceUser for it to work
correctly! Refer to the section of this document for setting up IceUser.
4. You will now need to edit your .MNU files to include IceUser.
IceUser can be run using either a type 7 or a type 15 menu command. A type
15 menu will require a batch file that is called to execute IceUser, a
type 7 menu only needs to have the command line to execute IceUser on the
Optional data line of the menu. See your BBS manual for more information
on type 7 and type 15 menus... Decide which type of menu command (Type 7
or type 15) you wish to use and then do ONE of the following depending
on which menu type you have chosen to use:
Type 7 Menu Command:
Optional Data:
<command line> [control codes]
Description:
This function will run an external program, or door in a
shell while the user is on-line.
Example command lines for Type 7 usage:
Calling IceUser in either a single line or multiline system you would use:
Single Line: C:\RA\IceUser\IceUser.Exe -d:C:\bbs\ra *M
Multi Line : C:\RA\IceUser\IceUser.Exe -d:C:\bbs\ra\line*N *M
The following RA parameters are used in the above examples:
*M
Activate the MemorySwap feature. RemoteAccess attempts to
swap itself and all the memory it occupies to XMS and EMS
memory (if available) or to disk, leaving only 3KB resident.
This is ideal when running memory-hungry programs but takes
a few seconds longer in order to perform the swap. If the
swap cannot be accomplished, RemoteAccess will attempt to
load the program in a normal shell.
*N
The current node number, as specified by the -N command line
parameter when RemoteAccess was loaded.
Type 15 Menu Command:
Exit to DOS with errorlevel
Optional data:
<errorlevel>
Description:
This function causes RemoteAccess to exit to DOS completely,
returning an errorlevel to your BBS batch file. The
optional data field should contain the errorlevel that you
wish to pass to the batch file. The batch file should trap
the errorlevel and act accordingly.
If you use this exit while the user is still on- line, the
user may be logged back into RemoteAccess using the command
line parameter -R. This forces RemoteAccess to read the
EXITINFO.BBS file that was written at the time of the exit
so that it can restore system and user information,
presenting the user with the TOP menu.
NOTE: Errorlevels 0 through 5 are reserved for internal use
by RemoteAccess. For a complete description of these
internal errorlevels and how they are used, see the
Errorlevels section of the Reference chapter.
If you decide to use a Type 15 menu to call IceUser you will need to add
IceUser into your BBS batchfile and call IceUser with the errorlevel you have
chosen.
:START
IF ERRORLEVEL 10 GOTO ICEUSER
IF ERRORLEVEL 5 GOTO NET&ECHO
IF ERRORLEVEL 4 GOTO ECHOMAIL
IF ERRORLEVEL 3 GOTO NETMAIL
IF ERRORLEVEL 0 GOTO START_UP
GOTO START_UP
:IceUser
CD\RA\IceUser
IceUser.EXE <Don't forget IceUser's Parameters!>
RA -R
GOTO AFTER_BBS
In this example, a TYPE 15 menu command with an Errorlevel of
10 will make the batch file execute the command following the
:IceUser label. Include the line "RA -R" to return to
the board after the external programs have been executed.
N.B.
DO NOT FORGET to include the correct command line switches for IceUser in
your batchfile. Failure to do so will result in IceUser not functioning as
it is intended. See the section of this doc file for more info on IceUsers
parameters.
5. Make sure you have changed ALL of the menus you wish to call IceUser from
and that you have saved the changes.
These are only an example to get you going... Please refer to the section of
these docs about 'parameters' to ensure you have the correct command line
to execute IceUser.
6. When you run IceUser, be sure that the IceUser.Cfg file has been created.
If it has not, then you MUST run UserCfg.Exe. If you don't, and attempt
to run IceUser.Exe directly, IceUser will display an error message that
IceUser.Cfg doesn't exist.
That's all there is to it....
The following is a list of valid parameters for IceUser.
-L : Execute IceUser in a local test mode.
-D:[PATH] : Where [PATH] is the full path to your BBS dropfiles.
-N:[NODE] : Where [NODE] is your current node number.
Once you have successfully executed the main program, you will be put into
the main editing screen, which looks like this:

In EVALUATION mode, almost all settings can be altered by any user who has
access to the editor, however in REGISTERED mode the following happens:
i) Those with SysOp access can edit all settings.
ii) Those with Co-SysOp access can edit all settings except those users who
are locked. In addition, Co-Sysops cannot upgrade someone's access level
(including their own) to anything higher than the maximum level defined
by the SysOp.
iii) Those with "User" access can only use the validate key to upgrade
accounts to a previously defined level.
These rules apply to all editing screens. The additional editing screens

│░░░▒▒▒▓▓▓ Registration ▓▓▓▒▒▒░░░│
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The Development of IceUser v0.50 took many long hours, and alot of time
and effort not to mention money. This program is not FreeWare. If this
program satisfies your expections of a User Editing utility, if not MORE,
than you are expected to register it after an evaluation period of 30 days
or sooner. By doing this you can be sure of continued development of the
software. Thanks for your support.
This Program may be freely distributed but DO NOT under any circumstances
change any of the executables or alter any files that come with this.
I urge you to register as soon as you can! The more registrations that
I have will show the interest of people in the program, and I will release
a newer version with a lot more features. If you register, the IceUser
Validate & Blacklist keys become available, IceUser will become sensitive
to the SysOp's defined security levels. Also, all "Unregistered" messages
and almost inaudible beeps within the program will be removed.
Please note that the status of features (whether they are available or not
to unregistered users) may be changed without further warning in later
versions of the software; but this does not mean that they will be
changed.
If you wish to register, please fill out the registration form :
North America

Register. Can - Registration Form For Canadian Users
Register.Usa - For the U.S.A, and for all other Registrations
Europe
------
Register.Nl - Registration Form For The Netherlands
Register.Ger - Registration Form For Germany
Register.Uk - Registration Form For UK/Eire
**Note: The Australian registration site is currently unavailable. If
you are in the area where you would normally contact this site,
please contact one of the other registration sites instead.
Please at this time send ALL registrations to the address listed in the
correct registration form. Thank you for your support.
Any Registration forms that have invalid or missing information may be
considered void and not be processed, depending on the extent of the
errors.
Due to recent events, I have changed my policy on personal cheques that
are sent in to pay for registration. I will continue to honour them,
however as of this release, there will be a 3 week hold placed on the
cheque to ENSURE that it does NOT go N.S.F. Although most people are
honest about this, lately too many people have sent in N.S.F. cheques, and
when contacted about them, show little or no concern about them or the
financial difficulties they may have caused.
Additionally, a service of $10 will be levied against any N.S.F. cheques.
Until both the full payment, and the service charge is recieved in the form
of a MONEY ORDER, the registration will not be processed.
In conclusion to the above information, to ensure a speedy turnaround time
it is recommended you send your registration in the form of a money order
(or direct deposit for Canadian residents) If you do choose to send in a
personal cheque, it means that you have read and understood these
conditions.

format, or if the seal has been broken, it is may be advisable to get a
new archive from one of the support sites listed at the end of the
documentation.
The IceUser archive should contain the following files :
ICEUSER.EXE - The Main Program
USERCFG.EXE - Use to configure the program
ICEUSER.DOC - Program Documentation
REGISTER.CAN - Registration Form For Canadian Users
REGISTER.UK - For United Kingdom registrations
REGISTER.NL - For Netherlands registrations

Here is a list of all the IceSoft utilities that were available at the time
of release of this archive. If you enjoy using this IceSoft utility, you may
want to check some of these out! :)
· IceChat -
IceChat is a split screen chat utility for RemoteAccess BBS packages.
It can be used with many other BBS types as long as they support
Dorinfo1.Def/Door.Sys type Doors.
· IceEdit -
IceEdit is a fullscreen ANSi message editor that was originally designed
for use with RemoteAccess. Although it has only been tested with
RemoteAccess v2.0x, and TeleGard v2.7 it should be compatible with any
other BBS that uses the QuickBBS style dropfiles that contain the
message writing information. These files are MSGTMP & MSGINF. You should
check your BBS documentation to see if your software supports this
system. IceEdit also calls on the Dorinfo1.Def file to read in necessary
information about the user profile.
· IceNote -
IceNote is one of the newest IceSoft doors available. It is a message to
all users type door with many neat features. It has been tested with
both RemoteAccess v2.0x, and the latest release of Renegade, and
should work with any other Dorinfo1.Def compatible BBS Packages.
· IceBank -
IceBank is the very newest IceSoft utility available. It is a fully
functional, fully configurable timebank system for RemoteAccess v2.0x.
