║ FILESTAT v2.0 Zip/ARJ File Statistics Utility ║
║ For Updating SFFILES.BBS File Descriptions ║
║ Copyright (C) 1993,94 by Kevin Cummins ║
╙────────────────────────────────────────────────╜
What It Does:
─────────────
FILESTAT 'looks' inside each ZIP or ARJ file in a given SF File Area, and
determines the number of files, the oldest, and the newest files in the
archive. It then appends a line something like:
*Files: 5 Oldest-06/07/92 Newest-08/11/92
to the end of that file's description in your SFFILES.BBS.
Considerations:
───────────────
NOTICE: FILESTAT v1.6ß2+ will only work on SF 3.5+. It MAY NOT work
correctly on versions of SF prior to 3.5.
FILESTAT will not process any file listed other than a .ZIP or .ARJ file.
So, if you are using another archiving method, this utility won't be of
much value to you. (maybe a future version....?)
Operation:
──────────
Execution is very simple. If you place FILESTAT somewhere in your dos path,
you can then simply change to the directory you wish to run FILESTAT on,
and type >FILESTAT
When run in this manner, FILESTAT will expect to find PKZIP.EXE somewhere
in your path, so make sure it *IS* in your path before execution.
If you need or want to specify the location of PKZIP and/or ARJ, FILESTAT
will accept command line parameters. Valid command line parameters are
/ZIP=path to PKZIP.EXE and /ARJ=path to ARJ.EXE. Then, execution could be
by typing something like:
Example: FILESTAT Filestat will search your
path for ZIP/ARJ
Example: FILESTAT /ZIP=C:\UTILS\PKZIP.EXE Filestat will use specified
path to PKZIP, and search
for ARJ in path. If ARJ is
not found, no big deal.
Example: FILESTAT /ZIP=C:\UTILS\ARJ.EXE Filestat will use specified
path to ARJ, and search
path for PKZIP. NOTE: PKZIP
must be found somewhere in
path, or Filestat will
abort.
Example: FILESTAT /ZIP=C:\UTILS\PKZIP.EXE /ARJ=C:\UTILS\ARJ.EXE
Filestat will use the
specified paths for both
PKZIP and ARJ.
Which ever method is used for determining the path to PKZIP and/or ARJ,
Filestat WILL verify their actual existence on your system. Remember, PKZIP
*MUST* be on your system for Filestat to run. ARJ, on the other hand, is
entirely optional. If ARJ doesn't exist on your computer, Filestat will run
just fine as long as it finds PKZIP.
FILESTAT never writes to your present SFFILES.BBS, for those of you who
become apprehensive about having your file listings messed with. Once
processing is complete, your old file is renamed to SFFILES.BAK and the new
one takes it place.
As of this writing, I have tested both PKZIP 1.1 and 2.04g with FILESTAT.
Both seem to work fine, no matter which version the files were actually
zipped with.
Suggestions:
────────────
If you have a temporary 'Recent Upload' directory such as I do, then adding
FILESTAT to run on that directory as a nightly event will have those files
updated before you move them to their permanent file area.
If you have problems running Filestat, use the /ZIP= and/or /ARJ=
parameters if you haven't already done so. If you still have problems,
contact the author.
Registration:
─────────────
All you need to make this copy registered is a registration file, which
will also be good for any future version of FILESTAT. The Registration fee
is only $5. FILESTAT does not have any features crippled. Registered and
non-registered versions do exactly the same job, the only difference being
the 'Shareware' reminder as the program starts.
Creating your registration file only takes a couple seconds, and can be
ready for download on Crimson Cross, usually within 24 hours after
receiving your registration form.
A FORM.REG file is included for your convenience.
Distribution:
─────────────
FILESTAT is released as Shareware. You are welcome to distribute it freely
in it's unmodified form. You may evaluate for a period of thirty days, and
are then required to register if you continue use it.
Thanks:
