RULES & ETIQUETTE FOR THE USA_EURLINK ECHO
A CHAT & CORRESPONDENCE ECHO
Certain requirements are made of people who participate in this Echo
conference:
First of all, courtesy is required. Arguments can happen, but flames
and insults are not allowed... If you have complaints about users of the
echo then voice them in direct net mail (if you are a sysop), NOT in this
echo. (Regular users can ask their sysop to forward the netmail for them.)
-=- Type unto others as you would have them type unto you. -=-
The moderators of this echo are: Robbert Brown Utrecht, Holland 2:500/222
Brenda Donovan San Diego, CA US 1:202/701
We started this echo originally just to be able to pass messages to
family members living in the other country and so that sysops and users
on the other side of the ocean would have a chance to ask for files that
weren't available locally... Robb and I both forward mail for our users
to the other Zone, since we each connect via netmail at least 3 times a
week... It was also a nice way to have a chat and correspondence echo
for our users. Interacting with users from other parts of the world is a
learning experience that can't be equaled. It can be a fascinating trip!
<smile>. Gateways, please contact us first. Other Zones are welcomed when
we know the correct gating software is being used and is working.
Just remember: No FLAMES, No INSULTS, No DEROGATORY NAME CALLING... let's
be friends and have a good time. Use your real name somewhere in a message.
No HANDLES! Please! And, Sysops: no TEST messages.
Messages FROM the moderator concerning enforcement of the rules are
NOT considered offtopic, however, neither are they *TOPICS* for
general discussion by anyone other than the moderator and the person
being addressed. Questioning or discussion of Moderator policy in the
open echo is off topic, except that the Moderator reserves the right
to post special messages relating to such policy and rules from time
to time for the edification of all participants. We welcome, will
listen to and consider, any suggestion or criticism which reaches me
by *private* mail.
Here's a good list of generic echomail commandments ;-)
1] Thou shalt not flame other participants in the conference.
2] Thou shalt not reply to flames left by other people.
3] Thou shalt keep to the topic of the echomail conference.
(learning how others think - not trying to *change* their thinking)
4] Thou shalt not reply to off-topic messages.
(don't add to any FLAMES - it only makes it worse)
5] Thou shalt not discuss illegal things in an echomail conference.
6] Thou shalt not use ANSI escape sequences in echomail messages.
7] Thou shalt not use 8-bit ASCII characters in messages.
8] Thou shalt listen to the moderator at all times.
9] Thou shalt post messages in the language(s) designated by the
moderator. (English - in this case, please)
10] Thou shalt not quote entire messages only to leave a one-liner.
11] Thou shalt not quote tear & origin lines unless it has some
relevance in the message.
12] Thou shalt not advertise BBSes unless otherwise specified.
13] Thou shalt not post commercial advertisements unless otherwise
specified.
14] Thou shalt not get into "this product is better than that
product" arguments in an echomail conference.
15] Thou shalt not leave personal messages in an echomail
conference.
16] Thou shalt not post messages addressed to "Sysop" in an echomail
conference.
17] Thou shalt not use profanity unless otherwise specified.
18] Thou shalt not thank each and every single person personally in
an echo who has given thou help. A single message thanking all
at one time is sufficient.
19] Thou shalt not reply to the same echomail message on more than
one BBS.
20] Thou shalt conduct thyself in a responsible and mature manner
when dealing with other echomail participants.
21] Thou shalt not be a weenie.
22] Thou shalt use your real name, no aliases allowed; please use it
somwhere in the message. NO HANDLES!
23] Thou shalt NOT quote verses from the Bible - only a short
reference is allowed: [Book] [Chapter]:[Verse] NO MORE!
24] Thou shalt not preach! Discussions are allowed.
25] Thou shalt be tolerant of other cultures represented here and
learn from each other.
