  45. 1.  Story.
  46.  
  47. Released by Capcom in the summer of 1994, Alien vs. Predator is
  48. loosely based on the movies _Alien_ and _Predator_ and is the latest
  49. of the Final-Fight genre games. The setting is San Drad, California,
  50. the largest city on the West Coast. The Wayland Yutani Corporation is
  51. developing biological weapons. An emergency situation occurs, and in
  52. 72 hours, San Drad is overrun by Aliens. Incredibly outnumbered, two
  53. heroes, Dutch Schaefer and Linn Kurosawa, fight the Aliens in a
  54. losing battle. And when all seems lost, Predators materialize and side
  55. with the heroes to join in the "Hunt".
  56.  
  57. The "Hunt" begins. Round 1 is "City of Despair". The fight takes place
  58. in the city amid hordes of Aliens. The boss is the Alien guard
  59. Chrysalis. Round 2 is "War in the Underpass". The fight continues in
  60. the sewers beneath the city. The boss is the fast and deadly Razor
  61. Claws. Round 3 is "Forced Assault". Atop a moving APC, the hunters
  62. shoot at Aliens as they storm their way to the Queen's liar. The boss
  63. is the agile Arachnoid. Round 4 is "Assault on a Queen". The fight
  64. takes the hunters directly to the Queen. The boss is the first Alien
  65. Queen. Round 5 is "Secrets". Investigating the crash of an aerial
  66. transport, the hunters find that the Aliens are part of a biological
  67. weapons development. The boss is a military service Power Loader.
  68. Round 6 is "Nightmare in the Lab". The fight is now inside the
  69. laboratories. The boss is the powerful "Mad Predator". Round 7 is
  70. "Hunt's End". The fight takes place aboard a space craft in outer
  71. space. The boss is the second Alien Queen.
  72.  
  73. Having defeated the Alien Queen, the hunters board a escape pod and
  74. direct the space craft to crash on the base and explode on impact. The
  75. resulting explosion destroys all remaining Aliens. Then back on the
  76. planet, the Predators give the heroes the Alien Queen's tail hook. The
  77. Predators leave as the heroes wonder why they helped them.
  78.  
  79. Note: Round 6, "Nightmare in the Lab", has a special stage where
  80. characters must destroy a control box. Failure to destroy it in 20
  81. seconds results in a crash, inflicting damage to the characters.

  141. 3.  Weapons.
  142.  
  143. The Predators are armed with shoulder cannons. The cannon fires single
  144. shots. On the ground, the cannon automatically targets the first enemy
  145. in the line of sight but cannot seem to track Chest Busters, Face
  146. Huggers, and the first Alien Queen. In the air, the cannon initially
  147. fires in the direction of the joystick, but the cannon's auto-tracking
  148. takes over almost immediately. Direct hits result in explosions
  149. affecting the target and other enemies near it. Those affected are
  150. enveloped in flame and are knocked down (except Alien Queens and Power
  151. Loaders). The reload status bar indicates firing availability. Each
  152. time the cannon is fired, the reload status bar decreases. If the
  153. reload status bar is totally depleted, the cannon has overheated,
  154. otherwise the reload status bar continuously refills. The cannon can
  155. QUICKLY overheat. The Warrior's native weapon is the spear, and the
  156. Hunter's native weapon is the halberd. They cannot use other melee
  157. weapons. They simply throw them.
  158.  
  159. Schaefer is armed with a smart gun rig on his arm. He fires a barrage
  160. of smart gun bullets. On the ground, he fires by waving his arm up and
  161. down covering all angles in the direction he is facing. In the air, he
  162. fires according to the joystick direction. The reload status bar
  163. indicates firing availability. Each time he fires, the reload status
  164. bar decreases. If the reload status bar is totally depleted, the gun
  165. has overheated, otherwise the reload status bar continuously refills.
  166. Schaefer carries no melee weapons, but he can use ANY weapon that he
  167. picks up, including the Warrior's spear, the Hunter's halberd, and
  168. Linn's katana. 
  169.  
  170. Linn is armed with a large caliber automatic pistol. She fires a
  171. stream of pulse gun bullets. On the ground, she fires an initial burst
  172. striking the ground and then proceeds to shoot horizontally in the
  173. direction she is facing. In the air, she fires according to the
  174. joystick direction. The reload status bar indicates firing
  175. availability. Each time she fires, the reload status bar decreases.
  176. Unlike the Predators or Schaefer, Linn does not have continuous
  177. refill. When the reload status bar is depleted, she must stop and
  178. reload her gun. Reload occurs immediately after depletion, even when
  179. surrounded by enemies. During reload, she is COMPLETELY VULNERABLE.
  180. Linn's native weapon is the katana. She cannot use other melee
  181. weapons. She simply throws them.

  183. Other Weapons:
  184. Super Cartridge: A character picking up this item can continuously
  185.            use his weapon to fire unlimited amount of rounds in a ten
  186.            second period. Super cartridges are found in some
  187.            containers and also appear whenever a player joins a game
  188.            in progress.
  189.  
  190. Knife:     Basic weapon that affects all enemies in the line of
  191.            projection. This weapon is simply picked up and thrown. If
  192.            it hits a wall, it falls to the ground.
  193.  
  194. Disc:      When thrown, the disc returns to the thrower along the line
  195.            of projection. If the thrower is not on the same horizontal
  196.            plane as the disc during its return, the disc will travel
  197.            off the screen and is lost. The disc is capable of knocking
  198.            down enemies with a single hit. Linn can use the disc to
  199.            hit enemies on the ground. If it hits a wall, it falls to
  200.            the ground.
  201.  
  202. Flame Thrower: Use with care. Each blast lasts about a second, leaving
  203.            your backside vulnerable. This weapon is short-lived but is
  204.            very effective against hordes.
  205.  
  206. Pipe:      A simple but effective weapon. Schaefer is the only one who
  207.            can use it to repeatedly smash enemies. The Predators and
  208.            Linn simply throw it. If it hits a wall, it falls to the
  209.            ground.
  210.  
  211. Pulse Gun: A very effective weapon that bombards enemies with
  212.            constant fire. It has long range and is useful against
  213.            bosses. The bullets do not go through enemies.
  214.  
  215. Smart Gun: Improvement over the Pulse Gun. More firepower. Unlike the
  216.            pulse gun, the smart gun shoots bullets that go through
  217.            enemies, affecting all in the line of fire.
  218.  
  219. Hand Grenade: Powerful hand-thrown weapons. The explosion affects the
  220.            target and other enemies near it. Those affected are
  221.            enveloped in flame and are knocked down (except Alien
  222.            Queens). This weapon is very effective against Power
  223.            Loaders. If an enemy soldier is hit before he throws a
  224.            grenade, the fallen grenade can be picked up and used.
  225.            Grenades hit in mid-air can also be picked up and used.
  226.  
  227. Grenade Launcher: Improvement over hand grenades. This is a very
  228.            powerful weapon. If the grenade hits, the following
  229.            explosion propagates to enemies that are in the direction
  230.            of firing. If fired from one end of the screen, one direct
  231.            hit is capable of enveloping in flames all enemies on
  232.            screen.

  238. 4.  Items.
  239.  
  240. There are numerous items placed throughout the game to aid you in your
  241. fight. Some items restore partial health, and some simply increase
  242. your score. The items are stored in some form of container, but be
  243. cautious, some containers store Aliens.

  283. |   The Warrior's normal attack pattern is three spear swipes        |
  284. |   followed by a stationary pole vault-like kick. This final kick   |
  285. |   has just a tad less range than the spean swipes, and sometimes   |
  286. |   misses the target. If weaponless, he punches instead. If he is   |
  287. |   hit by an enemy immediately behind him while attacking, he will  |
  288. |   execute a reverse sweep.                                         |
