  10.     2727 BC First recorded use of cannabis as medicine in Chinese 
  11.         pharmacopoeia. In every part of the world humankind has
  12.         used cannabis for a wide variety of health problems.
  13.  
  14.     1937    Cannabis withdrawn from the American public against the
  15.         advice of the medical community. Hemp excluded from 
  16.         "Class II" drugs (having demonstrated medical value)
  17.         by Nixon administration in 1970. Dispite all evidence
  18.         to the contrary, hemp was retained as Class I by the 
  19.         Bush administration in 1989.

  21.     1972    The Nixon-appointed Shafer Commission urged use of
  22.         cannabis be re-legalized, which was not done. Still,
  23.         medical research continued, often with remarkable results.

  25.     1975    FDA establishes Compassionate Use Program for 
  26.         medical marijuana.
  27.  
  28.     1988    DEA administrative law Judge Francis Young found
  29.         after thorough hearings that marijuana had clearly
  30.         established medical use and should be reclassified
  31.         as a prescriptive drug.

  33.     1990    The California Drug Advisory Board recommends legal
  34.         cultivation of marijuana.
  35.  
  36.     1991    80% of San Francisco voters vote to legalize medicinal
  37.         use of marijuana.
  38.  
  39.     1992    Feb.- Department of Health & Human Services callously
  40.         cancels the medical marijuana program.
  41.         Aug.- Marin County Board of Supervisors votes to restore
  42.         marijuana as medicine.
  43.         Nov.- Santa Cruz County votes 77% to legalize marijuana
  44.         by subscription.

  46.     1993    April- Senators Mello and Marks sponsor SJR8: Medical
  47.         Marijuana Resolution seeking Schedule II.
  48.         June- Moro Bay Board of Supervisors votes to restore
  49.         marijuana as medicine.
  50.         July- San Luis Obispo City Council votes to restore
  51.         and study marijuana as medicine.
  52.         Aug.- Both Houses of State Legislature pass SJR8; 
  53.         Assembly: 47-20; Senate: 23-9 in a bi-partisan vote
  54.         sent to President Clinton.
  55.  
  56.     1994    Aug.- SB 1364-The Marijuana rescheduling bill passes
  57.         both houses of California State Legislature in a
  58.         bi-partisan vote. This would allow doctors to prescribe.
  59.         Sep.- Governor Wilson vetoes SB 1364, forcing the coalition
  60.         to take its message to the people of California to seek 
  61.         justice for their sick and ill.
