  17.      This version of Phones will modify your databases, making them
  18. incompatible with previous versions.  If you are using METZ Phones
  19. on a network, all users will need to be updated if you will be sharing
  20. any phone books.

  26.         Several new features are in this version of METZ Phones.  Here
  27. is a summary of the changes.  Please see the online help for details
  28. about a particular feature.  Click the Help button in any of the
  29. dialog boxes to find out more about that dialog or command and to
  30. answer any questions you may have.

  32.    A List Replace command has been added.  It allows you to
  33.       search and replace text in one or more records.
  34.    A List Assign Categories command has been added.  It allows
  35.       you to assign categories to multiple records.
  36.    A problem with a printer driver General Protection Fault has
  37.       been fixed.
  38.    The File Restore feature now has options on how to restore
  39.       records from a backup file.  The options are displayed
  40.       after you select the backup file and press OK.  You can use
  41.       this feature to perform some basic phone book synchronization.
  42.    New Dialing Codes table - choose Dial Dialing Codes from the
  43.       menu, then click the Help button for details.
  44.    New Import/Export file formats are now supported:
  45.       SYLK, Lotus, Excel
  46.    Improved dialing support for international numbers - see the
  47.       Dial Modem Settings Help topic.
  48.    A Mail Merge macro for Word 6.0 is installed if WinWord is
  49.       detected.  The filename is METZMERG.DOC.
  50.    We are testing Phones under Windows 95 beta versions and have made
  51.       some minor changes as a result.
  52.    METZHK16.DLL replaces METZHOOK.DLL and fixes a DOS memory problem.
  53.    SH22W16.dll replaces METZOMEM.DLL.
  54.    METZHOOK.DLL, METZOMEM.DLL, METZCORE.DLL, and DLWBC31.DLL are no
  55.       longer used by METZ Phones.  Other METZ Products may still need
  56.       them however.
  57.    New DDE commands have been added and documented in the online help.
  58.    List and Record windows now remember their maximized/minimized state.
  59.    Test Envelope now draws an outline of the envelope on the paper.
  60.    Some performance improvements have been made.

  64.    New Rebuild Indexes dialog - improves performances and reduces disk
  65.       space.  When you choose File New or File Rebuild Indexes you can
  66.       choose which database indexes are to be created.

  77. Install hangs system:
  78.     Try changing the "install=y" setting in the INSTALL.INI
  79. [share] section to "install=n".  You will then need to manually
  80. install SHARE if it is not already installed.

  82. METZ Phones requires SHARE:
  83.     The METZ Phones Install program will check to see if share is
  84. installed on your system.  If it isn't, you will be asked if you
  85. would like to have it installed for you.
  86.     SHARE.EXE is included with DOS.  You can add share to your
  87. AUTOEXEC.BAT so that share will be automatically loaded when you
  88. start your system. The line you add will be similar to:
  89. C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE
  90. Make sure that this line appears before any line that may run
  91. Windows.
  92.     Microsoft has made a VSHARE.386 available for Windows 3.1
  93. users who do not want to install the DOS share program.  This
  94. file goes into your SYSTEM.INI and provides the functionality
  95. normally provided by the DOS share program.
  96.     If you have Windows for Workgroups installed, share is not
  97. required.  If you are using a Novell Netware Network, you do
  98. not need to install share if the database and network path are
  99. located on the network drive.

  115.      The METZPHO.INI file contains the various settings for METZ
  116. Phones.  Following are the undocumented INI values which you may
  117. find useful.  If the setting does not exist, simply add it.  Shown
  118. are examples with their default values.  You will need to restart
  119. Phones for any changes to take effect.

  135. ListCacheSize - The List window displays various database records.
  136.                 By storing (or caching) the information it needs
  137.                 once a record has been accessed, performance
  138.                 improves considerably.  If you have a large
  139.                 database, you can increase this value to improve
  140.                 the List window performance.  METZ Phones will use
  141.                 some additional memory as a result, roughly 30-60
  142.                 bytes per record.  Setting this value to zero will
  143.                 disable record caching.

  145. ListExtendedSelect - Setting this value to FALSE will change the
  146.                      way the mouse can be used to select records
  147.                      in the List window.  Records can then be
  148.                      selected individually without holding down
  149.                      the shift or ctrl keys.
  150. ListIndent    - The List window displays records based on the
  151.                 currently selected sort order.  If the main sort
  152.                 field is blank, another field may be displayed in
  153.                 the first column, indented slightly.  For example,
  154.                 when you sort by Company, records without a
  155.                 company value will display the name indented
  156.                 slightly. If you want to disable the indentation,
  157.                 set this value to FALSE, and restart Phones.
  158. ListActivate  - When you open a database from Phones, the Record
  159.                 View window is activated.  If you want the List
  160.                 window to be activated instead, then set this
  161.                 value to TRUE.
  162. ReportFirstLast - When printing reports, names are printed as
  163.                 "lastname, first middle".  If you would rather
  164.                 have it print "first middle last", then set
